Top shelf for a car. Acoustic shelf. DIY acoustic shelf with subwoofer Homemade acoustic shelf

The UAZ-31512 car was produced in Soviet time, there was no talk then about the comfort of a car designed for walking through forests. That is why the owners of this car decide on various modifications: some install seats from foreign cars, others make the upper shelf with their own hands.

To make such a device we will need:
Sheet Chipboard size 150*50 cm
Jigsaw
Wood screws (12 pieces)
Screwdriver
Construction corners
Roulette
File
Foam rubber sheet 10mm thick
Leatherette or leather
Furniture stapler and staples for it
Simple pencil

I suggest that you first draw up an approximate drawing of the product you want to get in the end. Next you need to move on to measurements: shelf length, height and width. When my husband and I started developing this update our car, drawings, measurements and others technical points I was studying, fortunately, special education allows. The length of our new shelf turned out to be 143 cm, its width was 20 cm, and its height was 10 cm. All measurements are clearly visible in the drawing.

Letters marked:
B – glove compartment (2 pcs.)
Magician - radio tape recorder
B – interior light switch
H – hours
D - Speakers

In this shelf we decided to place a radio with speakers, a tank clock, a light switch in the interior, we also wanted to add a glove compartment in which you can store a phone, camera and other small items.
We transfer the dimensions to the chipboard and cut out everything that is necessary; if the holes cut with a jigsaw do not fit, we modify them with a file. Then we fasten the shelf with corners and wood screws in order to give it the necessary rigidity.

Now I need to cover the shelf with foam rubber to give it softness. Armed with a furniture stapler, I got to work. I started covering it from the bottom of the shelf, it was more convenient. I covered the bottom, cut out holes for the speakers and attached the edges with the same stapler.

Then I covered the front part of the shelf, and this is what came out in the end.

The main thing here is not to use staples, because the upholstery material that will be on top will be attached to the staples, and those located on the foam rubber will interfere.
We cover the finished shelf with foam upholstery with material; ours turned out to match the ceiling (which, by the way, I also sewed myself). The shelf is ready, all that remains is to run all the wiring to the electronics and connect it. We place the shelf on the corners: one corner on the sides and two on each side of the windshield, and install the radio.
Now in our car music flows from above, the radio is located above our heads, there is time on the clock and glove compartments where you can put the little things you need for fishing.

Today it is rare to meet a car enthusiast who is content with the standard equipment of his car. Modern drivers are increasingly engaged in styling (from English word“styling” - style), i.e. change the interior of the car and its appearance in order to stand out from the general flow of vehicles. At the same time, owners of domestic cars do not lag behind the owners of foreign cars, and sometimes even surpass them in design ideas translated into reality. In this article we will give an example of how to make a trunk shelf on a VAZ 2109 with your own hands at the lowest cost from simple and affordable materials.

Tools you will need for work:

  • decorative handles for furniture;
  • plywood;
  • cardboard;
  • upholstery material;
  • adhesive mixture (universal glue);
  • two hinges for furniture.

Step-by-step instructions for independent production of VAZ 2109

First of all, you should determine the points at which the decorative handles of the future design will be fixed, and then drill the holes necessary for mounting the clamps and installing the handles in the selected places.

Next, you can proceed to making the shelf template. It is important to consider that the structure will have a moving part, which must be marked on the cardboard template using cuts. It is strongly recommended to make sure that if the moving part of the structure is lifted, it does not come into contact with the arches of the trunk of the car.

After all the necessary markings have been made on the cardboard sheet, it should be attached to the plywood and the future shelf should be cut out strictly according to the size of the template. This stage of work requires special concentration, because only if it is carefully cut will the shelf fit into the trunk slots.

At the next stage, the lifting part of the structure is cut out of plywood, after which it must be connected to the stationary part of the shelf using hinges. In a horizontal position, the lifting part will be held by latches installed on the edges of the shelf.

After installing the shelf, you can begin to check its functionality. You should make sure that the shelf sits securely in the trunk connector, and only then start polishing it using sandpaper fine grain.

The upholstery of the shelf is carried out with pre-prepared material, the dimensions of which are measured according to the finished shelf with small tolerances. The principle of applying upholstery is simple and is divided into several stages:

  1. First, a layer of universal PVA glue is applied to the shelf. After some time, when the first layer has dried a little, you need to apply the glue again.
  2. Then carefully apply to the top of the shelf upholstery. In this case, the material cannot be stretched, because Once dry, the fabric will shrink in size and may leave gaps on the shelf that are not covered by the fabric.
  3. The lower part of the edge should be upholstered according to the principle of upholstering the upper edge, but if desired, instead of glue, you can use double-sided tape to fix the fabric.
  4. After the upholstered shelf has completely dried, it can be installed in place. At the same time, you should once again make sure that the shelf sits firmly in its seat. Any defects that were identified during the final inspection must be corrected.

Additional Information

If desired, the shelf cover can be connected to the trunk door using a spring or rubber band. In this case, the lifting part of the shelf will rise along with the trunk door.

In conclusion, it is necessary to pay attention to the financial component of the issue. Self-production trunk shelves on a VAZ 2109 will cost the owner vehicle much cheaper than the cost of services from service station specialists.

Video

An example of a homemade trunk shelf can be seen here:

A couple of years ago I decided to install good speakers in my “Six”, which was passed on to me from my father. Before that, there were home-made plywood speakers, the sound quality of which was as good as the cheapest plastic Genius ones. Naturally this did not suit me. I picked up some good JBL GTO-938 ovals. But there was nowhere to put them. There were no holes for them in the factory shelf, and I didn’t want to damage the metal.

I decided to buy podiums.
After shopping around, I couldn't find anything suitable. And the prices were, frankly speaking, abnormal; the cheapest and most obscene shit, obviously collected by prisoners or Tajiks, cost 1000 rubles.
I decided to make a shelf with podiums myself.
Photos detailed process no, because at that time I didn’t set a goal to post anywhere. I'll post what I found on my phone. I took photos to show my friends that I made it myself and didn’t buy it.
I decided to make it from chipboard. Since my old broken-down crib was lying in the garage, I was provided with free material 17 mm thick.
Having removed the original hardboard rear shelf, I outlined the outline, taking into account the fact that the chipboard is thicker and therefore should be smaller, since the cabin is becoming narrower. I used a jigsaw to cut out the shelf and all the blanks for the podiums.

To give a slight angle I placed a block

I fastened the entire structure with self-tapping screws. The edges were processed with a rasp and coarse sandpaper.

Cavities filled polyurethane foam

We cut off the excess and sand it. Soak in two layers epoxy glue for strength.

primer in dark color so that it does not show through later and ultraviolet does not destroy the foam

We cover it with acoustic carpet and install ovals. By the way, the carpet is very difficult to pierce and drill. It is better to burn holes with a soldering iron, a hot nail or a cigarette..) Insert the ovals, pull the ends of the wires into the pre-prepared holes

Let's put it together. We solder terminal strips to the ends of the wires

We attach the shelf to the car using furniture bolts and paint the caps to match the color of the carpet. To prevent anything from rattling between the shelf with podiums and the metal shelf, we lay a layer of the same remaining carpet.
By the way, the speakers (JBL GTO-938) are very bassy, you can google the characteristics. The role of the bass reflex is played by the original holes for small speakers in the metal shelf of the body. And the trunk acts as a kind of subwoofer. In the end, the overall sound turned out great!
Nothing farts or rattles, turn it over.

Acoustic shelf for VAZ 2107

Knowing how to make an acoustic shelf for a VAZ 2107, you can achieve a clear improvement in sound. There are two ways to make an acoustic shelf on a VAZ 2107 in this article, and they will help eliminate problems associated with the stereo effect in the car.

Installing a homemade acoustic shelf in a VAZ 2107

As you know, it is quite difficult to achieve good sound in the interior of the Seven. The fact is that in addition to the noise of a moving car, there are many obstacles that prevent the sound from fully reaching the listener.
Usually, this problem can be solved in two ways:

  • Installation that is directly sent to the listener. Since passengers are in different parts salon, or in other words, in different angles car, the speakers should be directed to the center of the cabin so as not to deprive any of the vehicle's passengers of sound.
In this case, the sound from the speakers must be directed so that it passes all obstacles.
  • Installing speakers under the ceiling is a way to solve a problem called spot sound. In this case, you will have to do something that is very difficult and will require the implementation of durable fasteners, and all this will lead to a lack of bass.
  • The second method involves reflected sound and is much easier to implement. The speakers are directed to the rear window, and the sound is thereby reflected.
The sound becomes much more spacious, because the stereo effect is enhanced. In this case, you will need to make an acoustic shelf.

Note. As you know, there are ready-made store shelves, but they are made in such a way that the speakers placed on them are directed towards the ceiling.
Thus, part of the sound is damped by the pile of the car’s ceiling, and if there are also obstacles, such as seat headrests, you can forget about high-quality sound altogether. Therefore, it is advisable to make a shelf with your own hands, especially since it is not at all difficult.

The first way to make an acoustic shelf with your own hands

Let us present to the reader a way to make a shelf in the cabin for coaxial speakers measuring 6x9:

  • First you need to prepare everything, remove the excess from the back and the standard shelf, as well as the insulation.
  • The standard shelf now needs to be marked on a piece of chipboard.

Note. The markings must be carried out in such a way that the future acoustic shelf is 50 mm shorter on each side than the factory one. Otherwise, it simply won't fit into place.

  • We cut out the future shelf.
  • We carry out fitting into the car and if all sizes are suitable, we move on to the next stage.
  • We mark the markings for the speaker holes.

Note. We make the holes so that the speakers fit into them freely, without force.
Too much large holes there shouldn't be either. The edges of the holes must be made smooth to avoid any mechanical damage.

Let's continue working:

  • Now we need to start making the second level shelf. This is done so that the speakers are tilted towards the rear window.
  • Trace the template and cut it out.
  • The second level must be glued to the first main shelf with good construction glue and secure with self-tapping screws. This is what should happen.
  • Let's try everything on again.
  • Let's do it somehow sharp object, for example, a nail, notches on the frame of the car where our homemade shelf is placed.

Note. The holes in the iron shelf must be cut with a grinder, preferably small size. We make holes no smaller than in a homemade chipboard shelf.

  • We clean the trunk of all kinds of unnecessary debris. The cleaner it is, the better the quality of the sound in the cabin.
  • We make the third level of the shelf, just like the second.
  • We put it on top and also fasten it with screws and glue.
  • We make one more level and attach the fourth one.
  • We trim everything, where there is excess, grind it and sand it completely.

Note. The shelf should be such that its front part, which faces the driver, is lower than the side of the trunk.
Thus, it is ensured desired design, giving the speakers the ability to send sound directly to the rear window.

  • We cover the shelf with carpet, preferably black.
  • We screw on the speakers.
  • We put the shelf in the car.

Note. There is no need to glue noise or vibration insulation under the homemade shelf, but pasting the trunk itself with vibroplast will not hurt.

The shelf is ready. If you install a high-quality car radio, good active speakers and connect everything with high quality, the sound will be like in a symphony opera house.

The second way to make an acoustic shelf with your own hands

To begin with, I prepared the following set of tools:

  • Chipboard.
  • Polyurethane foam.
  • Glue.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Drill.
  • Cutter.
  • Stapler.

Let's get started.
We start, as in the first case, with preparing the interior:
  • We remove the standard stock shelf.
  • We put it on a sheet of chipboard and trace it.
  • We cut out with a jigsaw according to the markings.
  • We draw an oval frame on the chipboard that will cover the speaker.

Note. Ovals can be cut using metal object oval shape, which will act as a layout.

  • Two holes are cut on the shelf. In order for them to turn out to be a mirror reflection of each other, and this, as is known, gives an additional acoustic effect, you need to find the center on a homemade shelf and glue a sheet of paper.
We outline and cut out the right hole, then turn the shelf to the other side and carry out the same operation with the left hole.

Note. This method differs from the first one in that there is no need to cut out several levels of shelves.
It is enough to cut plates from ordinary tin or beams, and then nail them to the shelf with small nails. Two homemade ovals and parallel bars form a real podium, as in the photo below.

  • Now we take the foam and fix the homemade podiums to the shelf. Pieces of thick cardboard are placed inside the podiums to prevent foam from penetrating inside.
  • We wait until everything dries.
  • We take a utility knife and cut out the excess parts of the frozen foam.
  • We first cover the podiums with carpet.
  • Then we take a layer of carpet and put it on the shelf. We grab one end with a stapler and spray it with water.
After this, we quietly pull out the material and secure it with a stapler. Thus, there will be two layers of carpet on the podiums, but they will look beautiful and the speakers will fit perfectly in them.

Some important advice when working with carpet:

  • We remember that carpet does not stick to carpet.
  • Carpet can take on any shape if you spray it a little with water and dry it after stretching and creating the shape with a hairdryer.
  • Carpet is best glued with aerosol glue.
  • Glue on the carpet cannot be spread in a thick layer.

The two methods presented above will provide the opportunity to obtain the necessary information for those who want to make and install a homemade shelf in their car with their own hands. You can also use additional step by step instructions, which is not difficult to find on the Internet today.
During the work process, it is advisable to view photos and video materials. The price of such an operation will not be high, since you will only have to spend money on glue, a piece of chipboard and carpet and a few screws.

The optimal price-quality option for a sound system on a VAZ 2109 would be to install 4 speakers, two in front and two in back. There are no problems with the front seats, since there are standard places for 13-inch speakers in the front panel. If 13 inches is not enough, they can manufacture and install speakers of 16 inches in diameter. The rear standard places for speakers in the plastic inserts on the sides of the rear shelf are no good - they are too small to reproduce more or less noticeable bass, and the standard shelf is too flimsy to support the 6x9-inch oval speakers that are most suitable for placement in it.

Therefore, in this article we will look at how you can make a good rear acoustic shelf to accommodate two 6x9 speakers. The material will be useful to owners of VAZ 2109, 2108, 2114, 2113.

From the materials we will need:

  • Plywood sheet 18 mm thick
  • A piece of carpet measuring approximately 1 m x 1.5 m
  • Aerosol adhesive for carpet
  • Wood stain
  • Staples for furniture stapler, size 8 mm
  • Two hinges for the folding part of the shelf
  • Masking tape
  • Self-tapping screws

Required tool:

  • Jigsaw
  • Plane
  • Screwdriver (or drill)
  • Furniture stapler
  • Stationery knife
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

However, this list can be shortened, but you will spend more time performing certain operations manually, without the help of a tool.

You can cut out the shelf template yourself, taking into account your preferences. To do this, you need to take a piece of thick cardboard and, by measuring and adjusting, make a model of the future acoustic shelf. For example, the contours of a future shelf can be outlined by removing a standard shelf with plastic sides (it is highly recommended to make a full-size shelf, from glass to glass) and laying this out on a sheet of cardboard.

For the lazy, I can offer this ready-made one (download), many thanks to its creator. You just need to print it on A4 sheets on a regular printer and lay it out in a certain order, you’ll figure it out.

It is also worth considering the fact that our cars may have some variation in dimensions when assembling cars. Therefore, if you use ready-made template, you will still have to adjust the shelf to its location.

We place a plywood sheet on the workbench and draw on it the contours of the future shelf according to the template. Don't forget about the holes for the speakers, as well as the processing of the edges for the contours of the rear pillars and the rear window rubber.
Then we cut out the folding part of the shelf, attach the stiffener and cover all the parts with stain. After the stain has dried, you can screw on the hinges.

Now we spread the carpet on the future shelf and measure, leaving an allowance of 4 centimeters at the edges. We cut it out, apply glue and evenly and carefully glue the carpet to the wood of the shelf. Some places require careful gluing.

The ends of the shelf also need to be glued with carpet, the remainder is wrapped on the bottom edge. In order not to smear everything with glue, we use masking tape.

Next, we pierce the edge of the carpet along the perimeter of the shelf with construction staples using a stapler. You can leave a carpet allowance above the hinges for the lid, and they will not be visible from the outside. Now we cut off the excess carpet that is not glued with a stationery knife.

All that remains is to screw the folding part, and that’s it, our shelf is ready, you can install it on the car.
This is what it looks like externally:

There is no need to remove the plastic sidewalls where the holes for the standard speakers are located; our shelf is placed on top of them and screwed from below using self-tapping screws.

You can enhance the bass and sound quality of the rear speakers by installing it, which can be placed on the same shelf between the speakers, it will hold up.
