Volume III. Blavatskaya Elena Petrovna. Secret Doctrine. Volume I

Excerpts from the book by H. P. Blavatsky
"Secret Doctrine"("The Secret Doctrine")

Volume 1. Part 1

Introduction

Adi, or Adhi Budha, the One or Primary and Supreme Wisdom, is a term used by Aryasanga in his secret writings, now by all the mystics of Northern Buddhism. It is a Sanskrit term and the name given by the earliest Aryans to the Unknowable Deity. The word "Brahma" is not found either in the Vedas or in other early works. It means Absolute Wisdom, and Adibhuta is translated by Fitzedward-Hall as "The Eternal, Uncreated Cause of all."

Esoteric philosophy has never rejected “God in Nature”, just like the Divinity, as an absolute and abstract Essence. It only refuses to recognize the gods of the so-called monotheistic religions, created by man in his own image and likeness

a very important difference existing between orthodox Buddhism, i.e. the general teaching of Gotama Buddha, and His esoteric Buddhism

THE BOOK OF DZIAN (or DZAN) is completely unknown to our philologists, or, in any case, they have never heard of it under this name

Main base This Doctrine is found in hundreds and thousands of Sanskrit manuscripts

If we turn to China, we find that the religion of Confucius is based on the Five Books of Jing and the Four Books of Shu.

Turning now to the oldest example of Aryan literature, the Rig-Veda

Oasis Cherchen, for example, located at 4,000 f. above the level of the Cherchen-Darya River, surrounded in all directions by the ruins of archaic cities and settlements. There about 3,000 human beings are the remains of about a hundred extinct peoples and races, the very names of which are now unknown to our ethnologists

Is not Theosophy a new religion, we are asked? In no case; this is not a “religion”, nor is its philosophy “new”, for, as already said, this teaching is as old as thinking man

Despite the superhuman efforts of the early Christian Fathers to erase the Secret Doctrine from the memory of mankind, they failed

"NO RELIGION (OR LAW) IS HIGHER THAN TRUTH" - (Satuat Nasti Paro Dharmah) - the motto of the Maharaja of Benares, adopted by the Theosophical Society

The present work gives a detailed cosmogony and evolution of the Four Races that preceded our humanity of the Fifth Race;

The most ancient Jewish document of occult knowledge - Siprah Dzeniouta

“Dear sirs, here I gave only a bouquet of selected flowers and did not contribute anything of my own except the thread connecting them.” Tear the "thread" into pieces or split it if you wish. As for the bouquet of facts, you can never destroy them. You can only refuse to recognize them, but nothing more.

Prologue

Buddhists claim that there is no Creator, but only an infinity of creative forces, which together form a single eternal Essence, the nature of which is inscrutable, and therefore cannot be the subject of speculative speculation for a true philosopher.

about the history of symbolism

swastika (Thor's Hammer, now the Hermetic cross)

The esoteric symbol of Kali Yuga is the five-pointed star turned downward with its two points facing upward, the sign of human witchcraft - a position recognized by every occultist as the sign of the "Left Hand", and used in ceremonial magic.

“What is what was, is and will be, regardless of whether the Universe exists or not, whether there are gods or not?” asks Senzar's esoteric Catechism. The answer is given - "Space".

The most ancient religions of the world - exoterically, for the esoteric root or basis is one - are the religions of the Hindus, Mazdeans and Egyptians. Next comes the religion of the Chaldeans, as the offspring of the previous ones and now completely lost to the world, excluding traces of it in the distorted Sabeism, as it is now interpreted by archaeologists. Then, passing by some religions which will be mentioned later, comes the Hebrew, following esoterically in the line of Babylonian magic, such as the Kabbalah; and exoterically being a collection of allegorical legends, like the book of Genesis and the Pentateuch

Occult Science recognizes seven Cosmic Elements - four wholly physical and a fifth (ether) semi-material, which will be seen in the air towards the end of our Fourth Round, to rule supreme over the others during the whole of the Fifth. The remaining two are still completely beyond human knowledge

here are the main provisions of the Secret Doctrine

The seven Stanzas given in this volume represent the seven terms of this abstract formula. They refer to and describe the seven great stages of the evolutionary process spoken of in the Puranas as the "Seven Creations" and in the Bible as the "Days of Creation."

conscious Divine Forces, which are active manifestations of the One Highest Energy. They are the builders, sculptors and, in conclusion, the creators of the entire manifested Universe in the one sense in which the name "Creator" is understandable, they inspire and guide it; they are intelligent Beings who coordinate and control evolution, embodying those manifestations of the One Law, which are known to us as the “Laws of Nature”.

Sanskrit as it is now known was not the language of the Atlanteans

Stanza I

“Time” is just an illusion created by successive alternations of our states of consciousness

"Mind" is the name given to the totality of States of Consciousness, grouped under the determinatives - Thought, Will and Feelings. During deep sleep, thinking ceases on the physical plane and memory is suspended; thus, for this time, "Mind does not exist," for the organ through which the Ego manifests its thinking and memory on the material plane has temporarily ceased to function.

Ah-hi (dhian-chohans) are hosts of spiritual Beings - the angelic ranks of Christianity, the Elohim and the "Messengers" of the Jews - who are Conductors for the manifestation of the Divine or Universal Thought and Will

There are "Seven Paths" or "Paths" to "Bliss"

Darkness is Father-Mother: light is their son,” says an ancient Eastern saying

In esoteric phraseology, Brahma is Father-Mother-Son or Spirit, Soul and Body at the same time

The “Seven Most High Lords” are the Seven Spirits - Creators or Dhyan Chohans, corresponding to the Elohim of the Jews. This is the same hierarchy of archangels to which in Christian theogony belong St. Michael, St. Gabriel and other Paranishpanna - Absolute Perfection, Paranirvana; in Tibetan Yong-Dup (yon?s-grub). Matter is the Conductor for the manifestation of the Soul on this plane of existence. The Soul is the Conductor on a higher plane for the manifestation of the Spirit, and these three are the Trinity, synthesized by the Life that saturates them all

Stanza II - V

The Kabbalah represents it with the Hebrew letter Teth, which is the symbol of the serpent who played such a prominent part in the Mysteries. Its universal significance is equal to the number nine, for Teth is the ninth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and the ninth door of the fifty gates or paths leading to the hidden secrets of Being. It is the agent of magic par excellence, and in Hermetic philosophy means "Life infused into Primordial Matter", the essence that forms all things, and the spirit that determines their forms

the lower yoga, the so-called Hatha Yoga, which has never been approved and, to this day, is not approved by the arhats. It is harmful to health and can never independently develop into Raja Yoga

This also explains the hidden Kabbalistic meaning of the saying: "Breath becomes stone; stone becomes plant; plant becomes animal; animal becomes man; man becomes spirit and spirit becomes god."

Trans-Himalayan Chakra includes | | - triangle, first line, square, second line and pentagram with a dot in the center

The "Six Directions of Space" here mean the "Double Triangle", the union and fusion of pure Spirit and Matter, Arupa and Rupa, of which the Triangles are symbols. This double Triangle is the sign of Vishnu; this is the Seal of Solomon and the Sri Antara of the Brahmins.

For the church, there are two types of Heavenly Beings - angels and devils. For the Kabalist and the Occultist there is but one class, and neither the Occultist nor the Kabalist makes any distinction between the "Lords of Light" and the "Rectores tenebrarum harum", or Cosmocrators, whom Catholic Church imagines and discovers in the “Lords of Light” as soon as any of them is called by a name other than the one with which she calls him. It is not the Lord or the Maharaja who punishes or rewards with or without the will or decree of God, but the person himself - his deeds or Karma, attracting individually or collectively (as happens in the case of an entire nation) all evil and disaster. We generate Causes, and they awaken corresponding forces in Heavenly World, which are magnetically and irresistibly attracted to those - and influence those - who gave rise to such causes; it makes no difference whether such persons are actually evildoers or merely "thinkers" plotting evil

The quadrangular shape of the tabernacle meant the same thing that it means now in the exoteric veneration of the Chinese and Tibetans - namely, the four cardinal points expressed in the four sides of pyramids, obelisks and other similar structures

Stanza VI

OF THE SEVEN - THE FIRST IS MANIFESTED, SIX ARE HIDDEN; TWO ARE REVEALED, FIVE HIDDEN; THREE ARE MANIFESTED, FOUR HIDDEN; FOUR ARE REVEALED, THREE ARE HIDDEN; FOUR AND ONE ZAN ARE MADE MANIFESTED, TWO AND HALF OF ONE ARE HIDDEN; SIX SHOULD BE REVEALED, ONE LEFT ASIDE (a). FINALLY, THE SEVEN SMALL ROTATING WHEELS: ONE GIVING FROM ANOTHER (b) Of these elements, four are now fully manifested, while the fifth - Ether - is only partially, for we are barely in the second half of the Fourth Round, and therefore the fifth element will be fully manifested only in the Fifth Circle

When a planet dies, its animating principles are transferred to the laya or dormant center, which has potential but latent energy, which is thus awakened to life and begins to form into a new stellar body.

Retreat

Like all ghosts or vampires, the Moon is the friend of sorcerers and the enemy of the unwary. From archaic times to the later witches of Thessaly to the modern tantrics of Bengal, the nature and properties of the Moon were known to every occultist, but remained a closed book to physicists. ... This is the Moon, considered from an astronomical, geological and physical point of view. As for its metaphysical and psychic nature, this must remain the same occult secret in this work, as it was in the volume entitled “Esoteric Buddhism”,

Brief summary of the doctrine of the sevenfold Chains of Worlds in Solar Cosmos
1. Everything in the metaphysical and physical world is sevenfold. Consequently, every stellar body, every planet, visible or invisible, has six sister Spheres. The evolution of life takes place on these seven spheres or bodies, from the First down to the Seventh, during the seven Rounds or Seven Cycles. 2. These Spheres are formed by a process called by occultists "the rebirth of the Planetary Chains (or Rings)." When the seventh and last Round of one of these Rings has begun, the highest (or first) Sphere A, and with it all the others in succession to the last, instead of entering into a more or less prolonged period of rest or "Obscuration", as was the case in previous Circles - begins to die. Planetary Decay (Pralaya) is approaching and its hour has struck; each Sphere must transfer its life and energy to another planet. 3. Our Earth, as the visible representative of its invisible, higher sister Spheres, its “Lords” or “Principles,” must exist in the same way as the others throughout the seven Rounds. During the first three it forms and hardens; during the fourth it is established and hardens; during the last three it gradually returns to its primary form; she becomes, so to speak, spiritualized. 4. Her humanity fully develops only in the Fourth - our real Circle. Until this Fourth Life-Cycle, this “humanity” is called so only for want of a more proper term. Like a larva becoming a pupa, then a butterfly, Man, or rather that which becomes Man, passes through all forms and kingdoms during the First Round, and through all human forms during the next two Rounds. Having reached our Earth at the beginning of the Fourth, in the present series of the Life Cycle and Races, Man appears as the first form on it, being preceded only by the mineral and vegetable kingdoms - even the latter must develop and continue its further evolution through the mediation of man. This will be explained in the second volume. During the future three Rounds, humanity, like the globe on which it lives, will constantly strive to assume again its original form of the Dhyan Chohan Host. Man, like every atom in the Universe, strives to become a God-man and then God. “Starting from the Second Circle, Evolution proceeds on a completely different plane. Only during the First Circle (Heavenly) Man becomes a human being on Sphere A, and (again becomes) a mineral, plant, animal on Sphere B. and S., etc. The process changes completely from the Second Round; but you have already learned to be careful... and I advise you not to say anything until the deadline for publication... . 5. Each Life Cycle on Sphere D (our Earth) consists of seven Root Races. They begin with the etheric and end with the spiritual, following the double line of physical and moral evolution - from the beginning of the Earthly Circle to its end. One Circle, from Sphere A to Sphere G, the seventh, is called the "Planetary Circle"; the other is the "Circle of the Sphere" or the Circle of the Earth. This is beautifully explained in Esoteric Buddhism and needs no further explanation at this time. 6. The First Root Race, i.e., the first “People” on Earth (regardless of form), were the offspring of the “Heavenly Men”, correctly called in Hindu philosophy the “Lunar Ancestors” or Pitris, of whom there are Seven Degrees or Hierarchies.

Eastern Philosophy rejects the theological dogma of the West about a newly created soul for every newborn baby, for this dogma is as anti-philosophical as it is impossible in the economy of Nature

Pralaya - period of rest

In reality, the Moon is a satellite of the Earth in only one respect, namely, that physically the Moon revolves around the Earth. But in all other cases, it is the Earth that is the satellite of the Moon, and not vice versa. As startling as this statement may be, it is not without scientific support. It is confirmed by the tides, periodic changes in many forms of disease, coinciding with the phases of the moon; it can be traced in the growth of plants and is clearly expressed in the phenomenon of human conception and the process of pregnancy. The significance of the Moon and its influence on the Earth was recognized by every religion of antiquity, especially the Jewish, and was noted by many observers of mental and physical phenomena. But so far, science only knows that the Earth's influence on the Moon is limited to the physical attraction that causes it to rotate in its orbit.

These Dhyan Chohans, as we see, do not pass through the three kingdoms as the lower Pitris do; nor do they incarnate into man until the Third Root Race. Therefore, according to the teaching: Circle 1. Man in the First Circle and in the First Race on Sphere D, our Earth, was an ethereal being (Lunar Dhyani, like man) unreasonable, but superspiritual; and accordingly, according to the law of analogy, he was like that in the First Race of the Fourth Circle. In each of the subsequent races and sub-races... he develops into a more and more condensed or embodied being, but still with a predominance of ethereality... He has no sex and, like animals and plants, he develops monstrous bodies corresponding to grossness the conditions surrounding it. "Circle 2. He (man) is still gigantic and ethereal, but becomes a stable and more dense body; more physical person, but still less intelligent than spiritual (1), for the mind is a slower and more difficult evolution than the physical form... "Circle 3. He now has a completely concrete or dense body, at first it is the form of a gigantic ape, and is now more intelligent, or rather cunning, than spiritual. For in the descending arc he has now reached the point where his original spirituality is obscured and overshadowed by an emerging rationality (2). his tissues and he becomes a more intelligent being, although still more of a monkey than a Deva... (All this is almost exactly repeated in the Third Root Race of the Fourth Circle.) “Circle 4. Reason reaches enormous development in this Circle. The (still) dumb races acquire our (real) human speech on this globe, on which, beginning with the Fourth Race, language is improved and knowledge increases. At this midpoint of the Fourth Circle (as in the Fourth or Root Race of the Atlanteans) humanity passes the axis point of the small manvantar cycle... the world is saturated with the results of rational activity and a decrease in spirituality..."

The “people” of the Third Race, the ancestors of the Atlanteans, were, precisely, the same ape-like giants who did not possess reason, like those creatures who represented humanity during the Third Circle. Being morally irresponsible, these "people" of the Third Race, through promiscuous intercourse with animal species at a lower level than themselves, created that missing link, which centuries later (only in the Tertiary Period) became a distant ancestor real monkey, which we find in the family of great apes.

Continuation of Stanza VI

"Thanks to the divine perfection of these architectural proportions, the ancients were able to erect monuments of art, considered as miracles by all subsequent centuries, their Temples, Pyramids, Cave Sanctuaries, Cromlechs, Tombstones, Thrones, proving that they possessed a knowledge of mechanics, in comparison with which modern art is child's play and, speaking about these works, our art calls them “works of hundred-handed giants”

The Druidic Circles, the Dolmens, the Temples of India, Egypt and Greece, the Towers and the 127 cities of Europe, to which the French Institute has recognized a "Cyclopean Origin", are all the works of dedicated Priest-Architects, the descendants of those originally taught by the "Sons of God", and rightly called " Builders." This is what a grateful generation says about these descendants: “They used neither lime, nor cement, nor steel, nor iron to cut the stones, and yet they were so skillfully worked that in many places the joints are barely perceptible, although many of stones, such as those in Peru, are 38 feet long, 18 feet wide and 6 feet thick, and in the walls of the Cuzco fortress, there are stones of even larger size. And further: “The Syene reservoir, dug 5400 years ago. this place was located exactly under the tropic, which has now changed...... it was..... so constructed that at noon, at the exact moment of the solar station, the entire disk of the sun was reflected on its surface - a labor that could not to be accomplished now by the united art of all the astronomers of Europe"

Stanza VII

About the hierarchy of Creative Forces

There are only two ways of explaining the mystery of hereditary transmission: either that the substance of the germ cell is endowed with the ability to undergo the entire cycle of transformations leading to the construction of a separate organism and then to the reproduction of identical germ cells; or that these germ cells do not have their origin (genesis) at all in the body of the individual, but come directly from the germ cell of the ancestors, transmitted from father to son over long generations.

The Microcosm is depicted as a Pentagon in the Hexagonal Star of the Macrocosm

This is explained in a papyrus from the Louvre collection: “Combinations and conceptions multiply when he (Osiris the Lunar) is seen in the heavens on this day.”

For it is the Moon and its combinations that regulate conceptions, and every astrologer in India knows this. In the times of the former Races, and at least at the beginning of the present, those who indulged in marital copulation during certain lunar phases, which made these copulations sterile, were considered sorcerers and sinners.

A SPARK, FOHATA, UNITED WITH A FLAME BY A FINE THREAD. SHE WALKS THROUGH THE SEVEN WORLDS OF MAYA (a). SHE STOPS IN THE FIRST BECOME METAL AND STONE; PASSES INTO THE SECOND, AND BEHOLD A PLANT; THE PLANT ROTATES IN SEVEN SHIFTS AND BECOME A SACRED ANIMAL (b). FROM THESE PROPERTIES OF COMBINATIONS MANU - THE THINKER IS CREATED.

For the phrase of the first chapter (Elohic) - “In the beginning God created heaven and earth”, is a distorted translation: it does not mean “heaven and earth,” but duality or two heavens, upper and lower heavens, or the disunion of the Primordial Substance, which was light in its upper part and darkness in its lower (manifested Universe), in its duality of the invisible (by our senses) and visible for our cognition. “And God separated the light from the darkness”; and then created the firmament (air). “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters,” i.e., “and let it separate the waters that are under the firmament (our manifest visible Universe) from the waters that are above the firmament (the planes of Existence invisible [to us]) ". In the second chapter (Jehovah's) plants and herbs were created before water, just as in the first chapter Light was revealed before the sun. "The Lord God made the earth and the sky, and every bush of the field that was not yet on the earth, and every grass of the field that was not yet growing; for the Lord God (Elohim) did not send rain on the earth, etc." - this is absurdity if you do not accept the esoteric explanation. Plants were created before they were in the earth - for then there was no such earth as there is now; And field herbs existed before they grew up to be what they are now, in the Fourth Circle.

Only in the next or Fifth Round, the fifth Element, Ether - the gross body of Akasha, if it can even be called that - having become a common factor of Nature for all people, just as Air is now common to us, will cease to be, as now, hypothetical and will become a “mediator” for many things. And only in that Circle, those highest feelings will be capable of full disclosure, the growth and development of which is facilitated by Akasha. As already indicated, a partial acquaintance with the property of matter - Permeability - which must be developed in conjunction with the sixth sense, can be developed at the proper period in this Round. But with the next Element added to our possibilities in the next Round, Permeability will become so manifest a property of matter that the densest forms of this Circle will appear to man as no thicker fog obstructing him.

FROM THE FIRST-BORN (primitive man) THE THREAD BETWEEN THE SILENT WITNESS AND HIS SHADOW BECOMES STRONGER AND MORE RADIANT WITH EACH CHANGE (reincarnation)

"YOU ARE ME, MY LIKENESS AND MY SHADOW. I MYSELF CLOTHED IN YOU AND YOU ARE MY VAHANA (carrier)..."

Bottom line

Angels are only people superior type... They are not “helping” and not “protecting” Angels, nor are they Representatives of the Highest; still less the "Messengers of Wrath" of any God created by human fancy. Resorting to their protection is as stupid as believing that their sympathy can be ensured by some kind of sacrifice, for they, just like man himself, are slaves and creatures of the immutable Karmic and Cosmic Law.

Whatever may be the fate of these scriptures in the distant future, we hope that we have been able to prove the following facts: 1) The Secret Doctrine does not teach atheism, except in the sense underlying the Sanskrit word Nastika, the rejection of idols, including every anthropomorphic God. In this sense, every occultist is a Nastika. 2) She recognizes the Logos or the collective “Creator” of the Universe, the Demiurge, in the sense used when speaking of the “Architect” as the “Creator” of a building, while this architect never touched a single stone of it, but drew a plan , left all the manual work to the masons. In our case, the plan was given by the Conception (thought basis) of the Cosmos, and the construction work was provided to the Many Intelligent Forces. But this Demiurge is not a personal Deity - that is, an imperfect, extra-cosmic God, but only a totality of Dhyan-Khohans and other Forces. 3) Dhyan Chohans are dual in nature; being composed of (a) the irrational, brute energy inherent in Matter and (b) the intelligent Soul or Cosmic Consciousness directing and guiding this energy, which is the Dhyan-Khanic Thought, reflecting the Conception of the Cosmic Mind. The result of this is a constant alternation of physical manifestations and moral consequences on Earth during manvantaric periods, the whole being subordinate or subject to Karma. Since this process is not always perfect and since, despite numerous evidence indicating the existence of a guiding Mind behind the veil, this process nevertheless reveals gaps and shortcomings and even very often ends in failure - it follows from this that neither the collective Multitude ( Demiurge), none of the active Forces, taken individually, can be subject to divine honors or deification. Nevertheless, they are all entitled to the grateful respect and veneration of humanity; and man would have to constantly strive to help the divine evolution of Ideas, becoming, to the extent of his abilities, a collaborator with Nature in the task of the Cycle. Only the eternally unknown and incomprehensible Karana, the Causeless Cause of all causes, should have its Temple and Throne in the hidden and untouched soil of our heart - invisible, intangible, ineffable, except through the “still weak voice” of our spiritual consciousness. Those who worship her must do so in silence and in the sanctified solitude of their souls, making their spirit the only mediator between them and the World Spirit, their good actions the only priests, and their sinful intentions the only visible and objective sacrifices offered to this Presence. “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites... go into the room and shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.” Our Father within us is our Seventh Principle in “our temple,” our spiritual knowledge of the soul. “The Kingdom of God” and Heaven are within us, Jesus said, not outside us. Why are Christians so completely blind to the self-evident meaning of the words of wisdom that they so love to repeat mechanically? 4) Matter is eternal. This is Upadhi or the Physical Basis of the One Infinite Cosmic Mind for building your ideas on it. Therefore, esotericists claim that there is no inorganic or “dead” matter in Nature, the distinction made by science between these two is as unfounded as it is arbitrary and devoid of common sense. Nevertheless, whatever science may think - and exact science is a very fickle person, as we all know from experience - Occultism knows and teaches otherwise, as it has done since time immemorial, from Manu and Hermes to Paracelsus and his followers. 5) The Universe was revealed from its ideal plan, contained throughout Eternity in the Unconsciousness of what the Vedantins call Parabrahman. This is in fact identical with the conclusions of the highest philosophy of the West; "innate, eternal and self-existent Ideas" of Plato, now reflected by von Hartmann. Herbert Spencer's "Unknowable" bears only a faint resemblance to the transcendental Reality believed in by occultists and which is often only a mere personification of the "force behind the phenomenon" - the infinite and eternal Energy from which all things are derived, while the author of the "Philosophy of the Unconscious" approached ( in this respect only) is as close to the solution of the great Mystery as a mortal can come. Few were those who, in ancient or medieval philosophy, dared to approach this topic or even hint at it. Paracelsus mentions this by way of inference, and his ideas are beautifully synthesized by Dr. Franz Hartmann, member of the Theosophical Society, in his work Paracelsus, from which we have just quoted a few extracts.

nnn/ 03/23/2018 "It reads like this: If two persons give their testimony about a fact and thus each gives him 5/6 of the certainty; this fact will then have 35/36 of the certainty; that is, its probability will be related to its improbability in a ratio of 35 to 1."
___________________________

Nikolay, well, they’ve already told you everything. If the probability of some outcome is one sixth (the probability that, contrary to the predictions of one person, the fact will NOT happen), then if TWO people give their predictions at the same time, then the fact will NOT happen with a probability of one sixth in a square. That is, one thirty-sixth. Accordingly, what will be left for the second outcome? What will actually happen? One minus one thirty-sixth. Thirty-five thirty-sixths. That's what they wrote to you there.

Or this example. There is a team of 10 people. The probability that any of them is an idiot is one in two. Either an idiot or not an idiot. What is the probability that they are all idiots? One second to the tenth power, according to the number of people. That is, 1/1024. What is the probability that all ten people at once are NOT idiots? One minus 1/1024. That is, 1023/1024. Almost one. That is, you can almost always count on ten randomly selected people not ALL being idiots.

This is everyday logic... This is not even a theory of probability. Or its very basics. No formulas are needed, you just need to understand that the probabilities of independent events are multiplied.

Andrey/ 03/21/2018 Nikolay, these numbers can be obtained, for example, using the inclusion and exclusion formula

Arthur/ 03/9/2018 Better read the Bible and study the teachings of Jesus. And before studying the works of this lady, compare her life and the life of Christ. How can you accept this teaching from a woman who has been married twice? and left her husband after three months of marriage, this is not right, and will not lead a person to salvation. Just like its incorrect study of mysticism. Be careful, brothers, that no one leads you away with philosophy and empty deception, according to human tradition, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ...
(Colossians 2:8) But the part of the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, is in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.
(Revelation of John the Evangelist 21:8)

Nikolay/ 07/13/2017 Can anyone explain Kovalevskaya’s law, which is mentioned in the book as follows: “There is still somewhere in the archives of the French Academy a famous law of probability, developed by famous mathematicians through an algebraic process, for the benefit of skeptics. It reads like this: If two persons give their testimony about the fact and, thus
Thus, everyone gives him 5/6 of the reliability; This fact
will then have 35/36 reliability; that is, his probability will be to his improbability in the ratio of 35 to 1.
If three consonant readings are added together, the probability will be 215/216. The testimony of ten persons, each equal to 1/2 probability, will give 1023/1024, etc., etc. Occultist
can be satisfied with such certainty, without worrying about more."

How did the numbers 35/36, 215/216 and 1023/1024 come about?

Sergey/ 10.13.2014 Yes, phenomenal work. Modern authors never dreamed of it. The lion's share of esotericism of the twentieth century, as I see it, was born on the ideas of theosophists. And those keys that E.P. gives can help in understanding much more than the level of science of Her time.
A separate question to the critics: did you even get through 10 pages of the book???

From the translator

When starting to translate the Secret Doctrine, we set ourselves the task of adhering to the original text with all accuracy and thereby protecting the nature of the presentation. Most were also retained capital letters appearing in the text.

The foreign words included in this work are conveyed, if possible, in the currently existing transcription in Russian literature.

Preface to the first edition

The author - or rather the writer - considers it necessary to apologize for the long delay in the publication of this work. This delay occurred due to ill health and the extensiveness of the undertaking. Even the two volumes now published do not complete the task and do not comprehensively treat the subjects presented in them. Already collected a large number of material concerning the history of Occultism, contained in the lives of the great Adepts of the Aryan Race and proving the connection of Occult Philosophy with the feat of life, as it is and as it should be.

Should the present volumes meet with favorable reception, every effort will be made to carry out the purpose of this work in its entirety.

It should be added that such a task was not envisaged when the production of this work was first announced. According to the original plan Secret Doctrine was supposed to be a corrected and expanded edition " Isis Unveiled" It soon became clear, however, that the explanations which might be added to those already given in the above-mentioned work and others relating to Esoteric Science were such as to require a different method of presentation, and as a result the present volumes contain no more than twenty pages taken from " Isis Unveiled».

The author does not consider it necessary to ask for the indulgence of readers and critics for imperfections in English and for many shortcomings literary style that may appear on these pages. Being a foreigner, her knowledge of this language was acquired in later years of her life; English is used here because it is the most widely used medium for the transmission of truths, which it has become her duty to make public.

These truths, in no case, are presented as revelation, nor does the author claim to be the exposer of mystical knowledge being made public for the first time in the history of the world. For what is contained in this work may be found scattered among thousands of volumes containing the Scriptures of the great Asiatic and early European religions, hidden in glyphs and symbols and, by virtue of this veil, hitherto neglected. Now an attempt is being made to bring together the most ancient foundations and make of them one harmonious and inseparable whole. The only advantage that the writer has over her predecessors is that she does not have to resort to personal speculations and theories. For this work is a partial statement of what she herself has learned from those who are more knowledgeable, and added in some detail by the results of her personal study and observation. The publication of many of the facts here given was made necessary by the appearance of the wild and chimerical theories which theosophists and students of Mysticism have indulged in during the last few years in their endeavors, as they imagined, to develop an integral system of thought from the few facts previously communicated to them.

It is unnecessary to explain that this book is not the Secret Doctrine in its entirety, but only a select number of fragments of its main provisions. Special attention addressed to some facts, snatched by various writers and distorted beyond any semblance of Truth.

But it may be useful to affirm with all clearness that the teachings contained in these volumes, although fragmentary and incomplete, do not belong to any one religion, such as the Hindus, Zoroaster, Chaldeans and Egyptians, nor to Buddhism, Islam, Judaism or Christianity, exclusively. The Secret Doctrine is the essence of them all. Born from it in their beginnings, the various religious systems now return to their original element, from which every mystery and dogma arose, developed and materialized.

It is more than likely that this book will be considered by the majority as the wildest fable, for who has ever heard of the Book of Dzyan?

The writer of these lines is therefore quite ready to accept full responsibility for the content of this work and is not even afraid of the accusation that everything is just her invention. She is fully aware that this work has many shortcomings. And she only claims that no matter how fantastic the content of this work may seem to many, its logical coherence and consistency give the right to this new Genesis to stand, in any case, on a level with the “working hypotheses” so openly accepted by modern science. Further, this work demands attention, not because of any appeal to dogmatic authority, but because it is closely related to Nature and follows the laws of unity and analogy.

The purpose of this work can be defined as follows: to prove that Nature is not a “random combination of atoms” and to show man his rightful place in the scheme of the Universe; save archaic truths, which are the basis of all religions, from corruption; to reveal to some extent the basic unity from which they all originated; finally, to show that the occult side of Nature has never before been accessible to the science of modern civilization.

If this is accomplished to some extent, the writer is satisfied. This work was written in the service of humanity, and must be judged by humanity and future generations. Its author does not recognize the lesser court of appeal. She is accustomed to insults; she encounters slander every day; She smiles at slander in silent contempt.

Preface to the third and revised edition

In preparing this edition for publication, we sought to correct minor details of the literary style, without affecting more important issues. If H. P. Blavatsky had lived to see the new edition, she would undoubtedly have corrected and significantly expanded this work. The fact that this was not done is one of the many lesser losses caused by this great loss.

Unfortunate expressions due to imperfect knowledge of the English language have been corrected; most of the excerpts from other works have been checked and precise references are given - work that required great job, for references in previous editions were often inaccurate; a uniform system for transcribing Sanskrit words was also adopted. We have abandoned the transcription adopted by Western Orientalists as misleading to the general reader, and have rendered consonants not found in the English alphabet in combinations which approximately correspond to the sound meaning, and have carefully marked the length of the vowels. On a few occasions we inserted notes into the text itself, but this was done very rarely and only when the notes formed part of the text.

Introduction

“Listen meekly, judge kindly.”

With the advent of Theosophical literature in England, it became customary to call this teaching " Esoteric Buddhism" And becoming a habit, it confirmed old proverb, based on daily experience - “error rolls down an inclined plane, while truth must struggle its way uphill.”

Old truisms are often the wisest. The human mind can hardly remain entirely free from prejudice, and decisive, settled opinions are often formed before a thorough investigation of the subject in all its aspects has been made. What has been said refers to the prevailing error, which, on the one hand, limits Theosophy to Buddhism; and on the other hand, he confuses the provisions of the religious philosophy preached by Gotama Buddha with the doctrines broadly sketched in “ Esoteric Buddhism"Mr. Sinnett. It's hard to imagine anything more wrong than this. This made it possible for our enemies to acquire a strong weapon against Theosophy, for, as one famous scientist very sharply put it, there was “neither Esotericism nor Buddhism” in the mentioned volume. The esoteric truths presented in Mr. Sinnett's work ceased to be esoteric from the moment of their publication; also the book does not contain the religion of the Buddha, but simply only a few provisions of the hitherto secret teaching, which in the present volumes are explained and added by many others. But even the latter, although they reveal many of the main theses of the SECRET DOCTRINE of the East, still only slightly lift the edge of the dense cover. For no one, not even the greatest living Adept, could - even if he wanted to - indiscriminately expose to the ridicule of the unbelieving world that which had been so carefully hidden from it for long eons and centuries.

« Esoteric Buddhism“was an excellent work with a very unfortunate title, although the title meant the same as the table of contents of the present work - “THE SECRET DOCTRINE.” It proved unsuccessful because people are in the habit of always judging things by their appearance rather than by their meaning, and because this error has become so general that even members of the Theosophical Society have fallen prey to the same erroneous idea. However, from the very beginning, Brahmins and many others protested against such a table of contents. And, in fairness, I must add that " Esoteric Buddhism"was presented to me in its finished form and I was completely unaware of how the author intended to write the word "Budh"ism."

The responsibility for this error falls on those who first attracted public attention to these topics and did not bother to point out the difference between “Buddhism,” the religious system of ethics preached by Lord Gotama and named after his title Buddha - Illuminated - and “Buddhism” from Budha - Wisdom or Knowledge (Vidyā) the ability of cognition, from the Sanskrit root budh - to know. We ourselves, the Theosophists of India, are the true culprits, although we have since made every effort to correct the mistake. It was easy to avoid this sad misunderstanding: with mutual consent, it was only necessary to change the spelling of the word and write “Buddhism” instead of “Buddhism.” But this term is also incorrect, because in English one should write and pronounce “Buddaism”, and its followers should be called “Buddaists”.

This explanation is absolutely necessary when starting such a work as the present one. The Wisdom Religion is the heritage of the peoples of the whole world, despite what has been done in “ Esoteric Buddhism", the statement that "two years ago (in 1883) not only I, but not a single living European, did not even know the ABCs of science, first set forth here in scientific form"... etc. This misconception must have crept in by mistake. The writer of the present knew everything that was “published” in “ Esoteric Buddhism"and much more, many years before it became her duty to transmit a small part of the Secret Doctrine to two Europeans, one of whom was the author of " Esoteric Buddhism"; and of course, the writer of these lines has the undeniable, although for herself rather ambiguous, advantage of being of European origin and education. Moreover, much of the philosophy expounded by Sinnett was taught in America even before the publication of " Isis Unveiled", two Europeans and my colleague, Colonel G. S. Olcott. Of the Three Teachers that H. S. Olcott had, the first was a Hungarian Initiate, the second an Egyptian, the third a Hindu. By special permission Colonel Olcott different ways passed on some teachings. If the other two did not do the same, it was simply because they were not allowed to do so, because their time for public work had not yet come. But for others it has come, and Mr. Sinnett’s interesting works are proof of this. Moreover, the most important thing to keep in mind is that not a single theosophical book acquires the slightest added value by presenting authority.

Adi or Adhi Budha, the One or Primary and Supreme Wisdom is a term used by Aryasanga in his secret writings, now by all the mystics of Northern Buddhism. It is a Sanskrit term and the name given by the earliest Aryans to the Unknowable Deity. The word "Brahma" does not appear in any Vedas, nor in other early works, it signifies Absolute Wisdom, and Adibhuta is translated by Fitzedward-Hall as "the Eternal, Uncreated Cause of all." Aeons of ineffable extension must have passed before the epithet Buddha became so, so to speak, humanized that this term could be applied to mortals, and finally be given to the One whose incomparable virtues and knowledge earned Him the title “Buddha of Unshakable Wisdom.” Bodha" means the innate possession of divine intelligence or understanding; Buddha- mastery of this through personal effort and merit, while Budhi there is the faculty of cognition, the channel through which divine knowledge reaches the Ego, the discrimination of good and evil, also the divine conscience and the Spiritual Soul, which is the vehicle for the Atma. “When Buddhi consumes our Egotism (destroys it) with all its Vikaras, Avalokiteshvara becomes manifest to us, and Nirvana or Mukti is achieved.” Mukti is the same as Nirvana, liberation from the snares of Maya or Illusion. Bodhi there is also a name for a special state of trance called Samadhi, during which the subject reaches the highest degree of spiritual knowledge.

Mad are those who, in their blind and untimely hatred of Buddhism in our era and in reaction to Buddhism, deny its esoteric teachings, which are also the teachings of the Brahmins, only because they associate this name with the principles which they, being monotheists, viewed as harmful doctrines. Crazy, in this case, is the correct term. For in our era of crude and anti-logical materialism, Esoteric Philosophy alone is able to withstand repeated attacks on everything that man considers most dear and hidden in his inner spiritual life. The true philosopher who studies Esoteric Wisdom is completely freed from personalities, dogmatic beliefs and special religions. Besides. Esoteric Philosophy reconciles all religions and, removing from each its outer shell, human, indicates the identity of the root of each with the basis of every other great religion. It proves the necessity of the Divine and Absolute Principle in Nature. She also does not deny the Divinity, like the Sun. Esoteric Philosophy has never rejected “God in Nature”, just like the Divinity, as absolute and abstract Essence. It only refuses to recognize the gods, the so-called monotheistic religions, created by man in his own image and likeness, the blasphemous and sad caricatures of the Eternally Unknowable. Moreover, the records that we propose to reveal to the reader embrace the esoteric doctrines of the whole world from the very beginning of the origin of mankind, and the Occultism of Buddhism occupies in them only its rightful place, but no more.

Verily, the hidden parts Dan or Gianna (Dhyana) , Metaphysics of Gotama - no matter how lofty they may seem to someone unfamiliar with the doctrines ancient religion Wisdom is only a small part of the whole. The Hindu Reformer limited his general Teachings to the purely moral and physiological aspect of Wisdom-Religion, ethics and man. The things “invisible and immaterial”, the secrets of Existence beyond our earthly sphere, were left completely untouched by the Great Teacher in his appeals to the masses, preserving the Sacred Truths for a select circle of his Arhats. The latter received initiation in the famous Saptaparna Cave (Sattapanni Mahavansa), near Mount Baibhar (Webhara in the Pali Manuscripts). This cave was located at Rajagriha, in the ancient capital of Magadha, and was the same Cheta cave mentioned by the Chinese pilgrim Fa-hsien, as is correctly assumed by some archaeologists.

Time and human imagination quickly corrupted the purity and philosophy of this teaching, after it had been transferred from the secret and sacred circle of the Arhats during their proselytizing activities to soil less prepared than India for metaphysical ideas, such as China, Japan, Siam and Burma. How the primary purity of these great revelations was dealt with can be seen by studying the so-called “esoteric” Buddhist schools of antiquity in their modern garb, not only in China and other Buddhist countries in general, but even in many schools in Tibet, left in the care of uninitiated lamas and Mongolian innovators.

Therefore, the reader should keep in mind the very important difference that exists between orthodox Buddhism, i.e. the general teachings of Gotama Buddha and His Esoteric Buddhism. However, His Secret Doctrine was no different from that of the initiated Brahmins of His day. Buddha was a native of the Land of the Aryans, a Hindu by birth and Kshatriya caste, and a disciple of the "twice-born" (initiated Brahmins) or Movement. His teaching could not differ from their doctrines because the entire Buddhist reform consisted only in revealing part of what had been kept secret from everyone except the enchanted circle of hermits and Temple Initiates. Not being able, by virtue of his vow, to convey All, what was communicated to Him, Buddha, although he taught a philosophy built on the basis of true Esoteric Knowledge, nevertheless, gave the world only its external material appearance and preserved its soul for his chosen ones. Many Chinese scholars among orientalists have heard of the “Doctrine of the Soul.” But no one understood its true meaning and significance.

This doctrine was guarded - perhaps too secretly - in the sanctuaries. The mystery that shrouded its main dogma and aspiration - Nirvana - so tempted and aroused the curiosity of the scientists who studied it that, being unable to solve it logically and satisfactorily, having untied its Gordian knot, they cut it, declaring that Nirvana means absolute destruction.

By the end of the first quarter of this century there appeared special kind literature, which every year becomes more definite in its trend. Being founded so to speak, on the scientific research of Sanskritologists and Orientalists in general, this literature was considered scientific. Hindu, Egyptian and other ancient religions, myths and emblems, betrayed only what the symbolists wanted to see in them and, thus, instead internal meaning, often only crude external form. Remarkable works for their inventive conclusions and theories circulus vitiosus- prejudicial conclusions usually took the place of premises in the syllogisms of many Sanskrit and Pali scholars - quickly appeared and successively filled the libraries with contradictory dissertations, more on phallic and sexual worship than on true symbolism.

Maybe this is it the real reason, why, after a long, deepest silence and mystery of millennia, hints are now being given out to some basic truths from the Hidden Teachings of Archaic Times. I say this on purpose" some truth,” for what must remain unsaid cannot be contained in a hundred similar volumes, nor can it be entrusted to the present generation of Sadducees. But even the little that is given now is better than complete silence about these life truths. The world of the present day, in its ardent rush towards the unknown - which physicists are too hasty to confuse with the Unknowable whenever a problem goes beyond their understanding - is rapidly advancing on the opposite plane towards the plane of spirituality. Now before us is a vast field, a veritable valley of discord and endless struggle; an entire Necropolis where the highest and most sacred aspirations of our Spirit-Soul lie buried. With each new generation this Soul becomes more paralyzed and atrophied. “Dear secular pagans and complete debauchees,” about whom he speaks Grills, care little about revival deceased sciences of the past; but there is a fine minority of serious students who are entitled to learn some of the truths that can now be given to them. AND Now this is much more necessary than ten years ago, when “ Isis Unveiled” or even when later attempts to explain the secrets of esoteric science were published.

One of the greatest and perhaps the most serious objections to the reliability of this work and the credibility of it will be the preliminary Stanzas. How can the statements contained in them be verified? It is true that most of the Sanskrit, Chinese and Mongolian works mentioned in the present volumes are known to some Orientalists, however, the main work from which the Stanzas are taken is not available in European libraries. THE BOOK OF DZIAN (or DZAN) is completely unknown to our philologists, or, in any case, they have never heard of it under this name. This is, of course, a great disadvantage to them who follow in their research the prescribed methods of official science, but for students of Occultism and for all true occultists this is of little importance. The main basis of this Doctrine is found in hundreds and thousands of Sanskrit manuscripts, some of which have already been translated and, as usual, distorted by interpretation, while others are still awaiting their turn. Therefore, each student has the opportunity to verify the statements made here as well as check most of the excerpts given. Only a few new facts, new only to the uninitiated Orientalist, and passages taken from the Commentary will be difficult to trace to their source. Moreover, some of the teachings are still taught orally, but nevertheless, allusions to them are found in every case in almost all the countless volumes of the temple literature of the Brahmins, China and Tibet.

In any case, no matter what unkind criticism holds in store for the author of this work in the future, one fact is completely reliable. Members of several esoteric schools- whose location is beyond the Himalayas and whose branches can be found in China, Japan, India and Tibet and even in Syria, not counting South America- claim to possess all the secret and philosophical works in manuscripts and print, in a word, all the works that have ever been written in languages and in styles from the very beginning of the emergence of the art of writing, from hieroglyphs to the alphabet of Cadmus and Devanagari.

It has been constantly asserted that from the very time of the destruction of the library of Alexandria, every work which could, by its content, lead the uninitiated to the final discovery and understanding of some of the secrets of the Sacred Science, was assiduously sought out by the united efforts of the members of this Brotherhood. Moreover, it is added by those who know that all such works, once found, were destroyed with the exception of three copies of each, which were kept and hidden in safety. In India, the last of these precious Manuscripts were obtained and hidden during the reign of Emperor Akbar.

Professor Max Müller points out that no amount of bribery or threats from Akbar could have extracted the original text Ved from the Brahmins, and yet boasts that the European Orientalists possess it! It is highly doubtful that Europe will have full text, and the future may have some very unpleasant surprises in store for orientalists.

Moreover, it is asserted that every sacred book of similar content, the text of which was not sufficiently hidden in symbols, or which had any direct connection with the ancient mysteries, was first copied in a secret script that could withstand the art of the best and most skilful paleographers, and then destroyed until the last copy. During the reign of Akbar, several fanatical courtiers, dissatisfied with the Emperor’s sinful inquisitiveness towards the religions of the wicked, themselves helped the Brahmins to hide their Manuscripts. Such was Badaoni, who fed undisguised horror before Akbar's mania for idolatrous religions. This Badaoni in his: Muntakhab"t Tawurikh, writes:

...

“Since they (Sramanas and Brahmins) surpass other learned men in their treatises on morality and physical and religious sciences and reach a high degree in their knowledge of the future, in spiritual power and human perfection, then they gave proofs based on reason and testimony... and impressed their doctrines so firmly... that no man... could now raise doubts in His Majesty, even if the mountains crumbled to sand, or the heavens opened... His Majesty enjoys the knowledge of these wicked sects, which cannot be counted, so numerous are they; and them books of Revelations there is no end".

This work “was kept secret and was not published until the reign of Jehangir.” In addition, all large and rich monasteries have underground temples and cave libraries carved into the rock, if Gonpa(monastery) or Lhakang built on the mountain. Outside western Tsaidam, in the lonely passages of Gun-lun, there are several such hidden vaults. Along the Altyn Tag ridge, where no European has yet set foot, there is a certain village, lost in a deep mountain pass: a small crowd of houses, more a village than a monastery, with a poor temple and an old lama, a hermit, living nearby to guard it. Travelers say that the underground galleries and the rooms below them contain a collection of books, the number of which, according to reports, is too large to fit even in the British Museum.

According to the same legend, the now uninhabited areas in the waterless country of Tarim - a real desert in the heart of Turkestan - were in ancient times covered with flourishing and rich cities. At present, several green oases enliven her terrible loneliness. One of these oases covers the grave of a vast city buried under sandy soil desert, and does not belong to anyone, but is often visited by Mongols and Buddhists. Tradition also speaks of vast underground rooms, wide passages filled with tablets and cylinders. This may be idle talk, but it may also turn out to be a real fact.

All this will more than likely cause a smile of doubt. But before the reader dismisses the veracity of the rumors, let him pause and consider the following well-known facts. Joint research by orientalists and last years, especially the work of researchers in comparative philology and the science of religions, enabled them to confirm that countless manuscripts and even printed works, known to have existed are no longer found. They disappeared without leaving the slightest trace. If these works had no significance, they could have perished due to the conditions of time, and their names would have been erased from human memory. But this is not so, for, as has now been proven, most of these works contained the true keys to works still in circulation, but now completely incomprehensible for most of their readers without these additional volumes of commentary and explanation.

Such are, for example, the works of Lao Tzu, the predecessor of Confucius. They say that he wrote nine hundred and thirty books on ethics and religions and seventy on magic, in total - thousand. However, his great work "Tao Te Ching", heart his doctrines, and Holy Bible « Tao-sy" have, as Stanislav Julien points out, only "about 5,000 words", barely twelve pages. However, prof. Max Müller finds that the text is not intelligible without commentaries, so that M. Julien had to use references in more than sixty commentaries for his translation, and the oldest of them went back to 163 BC, but not earlier as we see. During the four and a half centuries preceding this "earliest" commentary, time had been sufficient to conceal the true doctrine of Lao Tzu from all except his initiated priests. The Japanese, among whom one can now find the most learned priests and followers of Lao Tzu, simply laugh at the mistakes and hypotheses of European and Chinese scientists. And tradition claims that the commentaries available to our Western sinologists are not authentic occult records, but only deliberate disguises, and that genuine comments, like all texts, have long been disappeared from the eyes of the profane.

About the writings of Confucius we read the following:

...

"If we turn to China, we will find that the religion of Confucius is based on the Five Books" Jing" and Four Books " Shu“- these books themselves are of considerable size and are surrounded by voluminous commentaries, without which even the most knowledgeable scientists would not dare to penetrate depth their innermost canon."

But they did not penetrate it; and this causes the lamentation of the Confucianists, as one of the very knowledgeable members of this Society stated in 1881 in Paris.

If our scholars turn to the ancient literature of the Semitic religions, to the Chaldean scriptures, the elder sister and mentor, if not the main source Bible Moses, the basis and starting point of Christianity, what will they find? To perpetuate the memory of the ancient religions of Babylon, to record the huge cycle of astronomical observations of the Magi of Chaldea, to justify the legends about their magnificent and especially occult literature, what remains now? Just a few fragments attributed to Beroza.

But they are almost devoid of any value, even as a key to the characterization of what has disappeared, for they passed through the hands of the Bishop of Caesarea - that self-affirmed censor and publisher of the sacred annals of religions alien to him - and they no doubt, to this day, bear the stamp of his “highly truthful , trustworthy" hand. For what is the history of this treatise on the once great religion of Babylon?

It was written in Greek for Alexander the Great by Berosus, a cleric of the Temple of Bel, based on the astronomical and chronological records maintained by the servants of that Temple - records covering a period of 200,000 years - now lost. In the first century BC. Alexander Polyhistor made a series of excerpts from this treatise, which are also lost. Eusebius (270-340 after AD) used these excerpts when writing his “ Chronikon" The similarity of points - almost identity - in the European and Chaldean Scriptures was a great danger for Eusebius in his roles defender and champion of a new religion that adopted the Jewish scriptures and with them an absurd chronology.

Max Handel

Blavatsky and the Secret Doctrine

About the book:

She did what no orientalist with all his learning would have done, what all orientalists together would not have done, with all their knowledge of oriental languages and their studies of the literature of the East. Not one of them could synthesize such a material from a material with similar colors. important work. None of them was able to create space out of that chaos - but a Russian woman with a low level of education did it. Without being a scientist and without claiming this title, she somewhere received knowledge that allowed her to do something that no one else would have done: neither a scientist nor an amateur.

Introduction

If this short essay about H.P. Blavatsky and The Secret Doctrine had not been published, all students of metaphysics and mysticism would have suffered real harm.

Max Handel, a Christian mystic, pays tribute to Helena Blavatsky, an Eastern occultist. He pays no attention to the small differences that separate West and East, and admires the great wisdom that abounds in Asia, richly saturating the fields of world thought. Great is the mind that rejoices in the greatness of other minds. Max Handel’s tribute to the memory of Blavatsky’s work and her Teachers is truly a wonderful gesture for our world, which, alas, is stingy with such good impulses.

We live by norms of criticism and condemnation, with little respect for the work of others. Sects and creeds build walls around themselves, and only heroic souls in whom spiritual perception is truly awakened can rise above these apparent limitations. Think back to the books you've read and remember how rarely any writer has spoken well of another. Every person who is unyielding in his own convictions has little regard for the opinions of others. There are many teachers in this world who teach with words, but only a few who teach by noble example of generous deeds.

In his textbook of Christian metaphysics, The Rosicrucian Cosmoconception, Max Handel refers to H.P. Blavatsky as a “devoted disciple of the Eastern Teachers,” and in the same paragraph he writes about her great book “The Secret Doctrine” as an “unsurpassed work.” With deep respect for spiritual values, Max Handel demonstrates the highest degree of his competence, recognizing the fundamental dignity of the work of H.P. Blavatsky. The Christian mystic is revealed here as a true student of Eastern occultism. His summary The "Secret Doctrine" in the last part of this book shows a surprisingly deep understanding of the monumental spiritual traditions of Asia. In several concise and in simple words Mr. Handel summarized cosmogenesis, the formation of the world, and anthropogenesis, the formation of man. Both Rosicrucians and Theosophists, if they are truly genuine students of the occult sciences, will benefit from an analysis of this summary.

The manuscript of this book should be considered the first literary achievement of Max Handel. It was the beginning of a noteworthy metaphysical literature devoted to the application of mystical idealism to the existing problems of painfully suffering humanity. It said that “the first will be last.” This small book brought to print only the remainder of Max Handel's unpublished manuscript. The manuscript originally consisted of notes from two lectures given before the Theosophical Society in Los Angeles. During the years spent preparing these lectures, Max Handel significantly increased his level of mystical knowledge and rightfully earned recognition as America's foremost Christian mystic. However, his reverence and respect for Blavatsky did not in any way change over time, and until the day of his death he always spoke of her with words of the highest admiration. This was the merit of Blavatsky’s books, from which Max Handel received the first knowledge of the occult sciences in his life. He considered gratitude to be the cardinal law of occultism, and his pure soul retained to the end a wonderful spirit of gratitude for the inspiration and teaching he received from the Secret Doctrine.

Both Madame Blavatsky and Mr. Handel dedicated their lives to the service of humanity. Each of them was dedicated to the dissemination of spiritual knowledge. They were rewarded, for the most part, with ingratitude, persecution and misunderstanding. They suffered from the deceit of friends and learned how cruel the world can be to those who seek to instruct and improve it. Only the leader of a spiritual movement can imagine how difficult the responsibility of a leader can be. Helena Blavatsky had already passed into the invisible world when Max Handel began his ministry. They never met on the physical plane. Max Handel came to understand Blavatsky through years of similar service to the same highest ideals. He came to understand her as only a mystic can, and his appreciation of her fidelity and her patience was all the more profound because of the misfortunes he himself had suffered.

As E.P. Blavatsky as well as Max Handel gave their lives to remarkable service to the spiritual needs of the race. They went to their graves equally early, broken by responsibility and persecution. Each left, as a legacy to the future generation, metaphysical literature that will survive the vicissitudes of fate.

The true aims of mysticism are to perpetuate, explain and apply the idealism of race. A person turns to religion for guidance, support and consolation. We want religion to stand behind us as we try to live honestly.

We need to know that somewhere there is a close-knit group of people who adhere to spiritual values in a collapsing material world. We are all looking for inspiration. We crave ideals. We want a worthy goal that unites our activities. We wish to establish in this vale of tears a spiritual system that will rise above everyday life. We want to come to a life that recognizes our spiritual organizations as oases in the desert of materialism.

Civilization is undergoing the throes of a great period of transformation. Man, as never before in history, is looking for solutions to urgent and serious problems. Church and state alike realize that they can unite as the world they know fades into oblivion.

In all parts of the civilized world there are men and women devoted to the mystical explanation of life. These men and women follow a code of spiritual ethics based on two great principles: the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man. Students are, for the most part, organized into various groups, big and small, for the purpose of self-improvement and social progress. Such groups can be divided into two types: the first, whose inspiration is essentially Christian; and the second, essentially eastern. Although these groups are separate, the basic goals to which they strive are identical for all enlightened religious movements, since their the main objective and the intention is the rebirth of man and humanity.

Max Handel was a pioneer in Christian mysticism, and Blavatsky was a pioneer in Eastern occultism. Both created systems of thought that spread throughout poor-spirited humanity. They left not only their organizations, but also the seeds they sowed in the hearts of people, which subsequently sprouted and bore fruit in many parts of the world, where other organizations were created in the same vein. For this reason there is a significant body of mystics and occultists in America, and their numbers are increasing daily by sincere men and women whose hearts and minds are in need of some reasonable explanation of the changes taking place in society.

Almost all students of the occult sciences in America are familiar with the work done by Helena Blavatsky and Max Handel. The lives of these two religious founders are a constant example for greater spiritual effort and selfless giving. When we admire these great leaders, we are motivated to continue their work by intellectually perpetuating their doctrines through our words and deeds. During the great world war, however, the metaphysicians lost the opportunity of making their permanent contribution to the race due to internal dissensions and disputes. Organizations that were supposed to selflessly serve humanity instead wasted their energy on useless debates over personal issues of little or no significance.

Our current crisis is much more important than a world war. The entire civilized world is in poverty against the backdrop of selfishness and corruption. There are new opportunities to apply spiritual methods to solve material problems. It is the duty of all spiritually enlightened people to forget all differences, sacrifice all personal ambitions and reaffirm their commitment to the great ideals that their orders and societies have called upon to implement.

During the great boom immediately preceding the present economic crisis, even mystical organizations were infected with the bacilli of enrichment, consumption and personal ambition. Personalities eclipsed principles, then both organizations and individuals retreated from simple truths, which are the foundations of intelligent life. Then came the collapse. Material values were thrown into the bottomless depths, like lead. Ambitions were scattered with the wind, and the race was forced to face problems that can only be solved by a revaluation of spiritual values and the conversion of people and organizations to the principles of enlightenment and truth.

Imagine that on this very day E.P. Blavatsky, the lioness of the Theosophical Society, returned from the Amenti of the Sages and demanded a due account from the Society she founded. Who could, standing in front of her, honestly say: “Beloved teacher, we made every effort, we are also faithful to you and the Teachers you spoke about”? How many of them could say: “We were honest, kind, fair and impartial; We...

"NO RELIGION IS HIGHER THAN TRUTH"

From the translator

When starting to translate the Secret Doctrine, we set ourselves the task of adhering to the original text with all accuracy and thereby protecting the nature of the presentation. Most of the capital letters found in the text were also retained.

A large amount of material has already been collected concerning the history of Occultism, contained in the lives of the great Adepts of the Aryan Race and proving the connection of Occult Philosophy with the feat of life, as it is and as it should be.

The author does not consider it necessary to ask for the indulgence of readers and critics for the imperfections of the English language and for the many shortcomings of literary style that may be encountered in these pages.

Particular attention is paid to some facts, seized by various writers and distorted beyond any semblance of Truth.

De minimis non curat lex.

Preface to the third and revised edition

In preparing this edition for publication, we have sought to correct minor details of literary style without touching on more important issues. If H. P. Blavatsky had lived to see the new edition, she would undoubtedly have corrected and significantly expanded this work. The fact that this was not done is one of the many lesser losses caused by this great loss.

Unfortunate expressions due to imperfect knowledge of the English language have been corrected; most of the excerpts from other works have been checked and accurately referenced - a task that required a lot of work, since the references in previous editions were often inaccurate; a uniform system for transcribing Sanskrit words was also adopted.
