Installation of elements begins with preparing recesses in the wall for laying corrugated pipes and installing the regulator. For this we use a hammer drill.

A mounting box should be placed in the recess for installing the thermostat. If for its operation the voltage is supplied not from batteries, but from a 220V network, then you will have to connect the appropriate wires to it.

The second stage of our work is the installation of a heated floor sensor. It is carried out as follows. We take the sensor and place it in the corrugated pipe that comes with the floor.

In this case, we place the device near the end of the tube. On the other side there will be a connecting wire coming out.

The first end of the pipe must be tightly sealed to prevent cement mortar from getting into it.

  • flatten with pliers and attach to the floor using a self-tapping screw;
  • use heat shrink tubing and a hair dryer.

We place the second end of the corrugated pipe in a pre-prepared channel and bring it out into the thermostat installation box. Then, the groove with corrugation can be covered with cement mortar.

Resistance test:

What is needed to install a heated floor sensor?

Installation process

Step one - marking the installation location of the thermostat and cutting a recess for the sensor

Using a drill with a crown attachment, a recess is made into which the socket box is installed. It is here that the connection of the sensor cable with the regulator and, in fact, the power cable with the household network input will take place.

From the resulting recess, to the depth of the lower inlet through hole of the socket box, a vertical recess is made with a hammer drill. The same is repeated on the floor.

The junction of two vertical recesses should not have sharp corners, as this can cause damage to the conductor as a result of the mobility of the structure and the cyclical heating or cooling of the concrete screed.

Step two - installing a socket box and connecting the power supply

Installation of the socket box (box) is carried out on the starting or finishing putty. After the latter has set, a 220 V wire is inserted into the upper hole. At this stage, you should not rush to finish the network supply, since the length of the wire may not be enough to install the connecting terminal block.

Step three - laying the corrugation with a temperature sensor

First of all, you need to stretch the sensor with the wire along the entire length of the corrugation. It is in this case that the previously mentioned internal broach will be needed. The sensor itself must protrude beyond flexible tube by a few centimeters. Upper part the conductor in the corrugation is inserted into the socket in which the regulator will be located.

It is worth immediately noting that if several underfloor heating systems with similar sensors are installed, one regulator can be used. It is enough to perform a through groove on the wall and bring the cable from another room to the place where the regulator is installed. This must be done before installing the socket box.

Step four - sealing

All connections of the corrugated pipe, starting from the box on the wall and ending with the sensor outlet into the free outlet, must be sealed. The parts of the corrugation are connected with electrical tape, and the sensor itself is closed with a plug. The connection of the latter is also duplicated with electrical tape.

Careful sealing is necessary to protect the internal space from penetration of concrete solution or putty, which will make it possible to replace the sensor if, of course, such a need arises during operation.

Thus, it becomes quite clear that the corrugated soft pipe serves as a passage element for quickly replacing the heated floor sensor without removing tiles or other floor covering.

Step five - selecting a plug for the sensor

As a rule, the heated floor kit already includes everything you need, including a plug. If it is plastic or rubber, it should be replaced with copper, which has higher thermal conductivity.

If such a plug is difficult to find, you can make it yourself. To do this, you need to take a piece of copper tube for 15 and, accordingly, a plug according to its size. There is no need to use any sealants or seals. This can affect the actual performance during the heating and cooling of the screed.

It is very rare to find ceramic plugs in specialized stores. It makes no sense to talk about the price, since the size of the product is small. Ceramics conduct heat very well, but have a significant drawback - it cannot be separated from the main mass of the concrete screed.

Step six - attaching the sensor

The heated floor sensor, already packed in a corrugation and plug, must be secured. To do this, the edge placed on the floor, immediately in front of the plug, is secured to the floor with construction metal tape, or rather, with a small piece of it. The power wire of the heating cable or thin mat laid nearby is secured to the corrugated pipe with plastic ties.

The tightening force should be minimal, which will eliminate the possibility of changing the shape of the tube. This is very important for further manipulations.

Step seven - putty the groove with the sensor

Using tile adhesive, you can cover the sensor level with the rough concrete screed. To begin subsequent masonry work, there is no need to maintain any time period.

The true purpose of corrugation

The heated floor sensor, like any other electronic item, can fail. Thanks to the soft corrugated pipe and internal broach, which was emphasized at the beginning of the article, you can easily replace a faulty temperature control element.

To do this you will need:

  • remove the thermostat from the socket box, having previously de-energized the room;
  • disconnect the sensor itself from the terminal block and the regulator;
  • pull out the mentioned one through the corrugation;
  • using a broach, thread the original sensor back until it stops

After this, you need to install the regulator in place and check the correctness of the repair work. Thanks to the broach, the sensor head will reach the copper plug (its remote location) and will not get tangled at the bend between the floor and the wall.

Which corrugation is best to use?

Color, brand and composition do not matter. Only the inner diameter matters. Branded sensors, which come complete with ready-made heated floors, fit closely into the 10 mm corrugation. The latter is also included as standard equipment.

If, for any reason, the sensor is replaced with a compatible, but non-original model, it is worth using a 17 mm corrugation during the installation process. To install it, you only need to make a deeper groove.

Do I need to raise the sensor head as high as possible to the top layer of the screed?

In heated floors for the domestic sector, the sensor head is in copper tube rises as high as possible. In industrial systems this is not necessary, since the cross-section and power of the cable heating element is much larger.

What should you pay attention to when installing the sensor?

It is also worth noting that a significant difference in readings between actual and detected heating can lead to an error such as a sensor break. In fact, there is nothing wrong with the sensor, it is just located in a colder zone and does not see changes in the thermal background when the screed is heated and cooled above the underfloor heating cable.

The lack of resistance information for the thermostat is fraught not only with wear and tear of the entire system, but also with the failure of the included prediction programs, which can only be eliminated by contacting a service center.

With mechanical regulators the situation is simpler. No programs or settings, only mechanical control buttons that set the desired temperature according to data from the sensor. Placing the latter in the first line or cold zone will indicate insufficient heating. The transition from a comfortable mode to increased heating will provoke not only wear and tear on the mats and cables, but also melting of the contacts in the junction box where the household network connects to the consumer itself.

What to do if the sensor is installed incorrectly?

In the process of rough work, it is very easy to correct the situation. It is enough to cut the groove a little further and, using an additional piece of corrugation with a diameter of 10 mm, move the sensor a little further.

Lack of sensor cable length can be corrected by moving the wall regulator lower in level or by adding a wire of the same cross-section and then insulating it.

If the work is completed and carried out fine finishing- the tiles are laid, it is necessary:

  • remove the piece of tile under which the heated floor sensor is located;
  • clear the end of the recess in which the corrugation is laid;
  • remove the plug (plug) of the sensor;
  • cut off the sensor from the wire;
  • add the required wire length;
  • seal the extended part in a new 10 mm corrugation;
  • place in the added groove;
  • apply tile adhesive and lay the tiles.

Possible options for connecting a heated floor sensor

Despite the simplicity of the process described above, there are several ways to connect the sensor, namely:

  • direct connection “cable - thermostat”;
  • using a junction box.

The second is considered more reliable, but at the same time requires more costs, both material and time. In this case, the heated floor sensor is output to a separate line of the electrical panel. To do this, you need to buy and lay 2.5 sq. copper power cables. mm.
