The most unusual shopping centers in the world. Top most unique and unusual shopping centers Unusual shopping centers in the world

Good day to all!

I received a question from my regular reader, which of the shopping centers in Moscow is the largest?

By the way, there are about 300 entertainment and shopping complexes in the capital. Many amaze with their scale and amazing interior.

So, which shopping center is considered the largest?

A difficult question, because several of them have approximately the same area - about 300,000 m2. These are Afimall City and MEGA "Belaya Dacha".

Don't know where to spend time with benefit and pleasure?

Then carefully read about the most popular and largest shopping centers in the city and choose according to your taste. Retweets, reposts and likes are welcome!

The largest shopping center in Moscow

The largest shopping and entertainment center in Moscow is located on the territory of Khodynsky Field, on the site of the first Moscow airport. The Aviapark shopping center began operating in December 2014, opening the doors of more than 500 stores to visitors.

The total area of the Aviapark is almost 400,000 square meters (For comparison, the area of the popular “Golden Babylon” on Mira Avenue in Moscow is about 240,000 square meters)

How to get there:

Currently, the closest metro stations to the shopping center, “Airport” and “Dynamo”, are located at a distance of about one and a half kilometers. At the beginning of 2018, the CSKA metro station will open within walking distance from Aviapark. (Preliminary opening date - end of February) Also nearby is the Sorge MCC station.
In any case, the CSKA metro station will become the “home” station for the shopping center.

From the Savelovskaya, Dinamo and Polezhaevskaya metro stations, free buses leave every 15 minutes to the entrance to the shopping center.

The newest openings in the shopping center:

During the first half of 2017, more than 45 new retail outlets with a total area of about 22 thousand sq.m. opened in the Aviapark shopping gallery. Among them are Reserved, Gerry Weber, New Yorker, Mavi, 5 pockets, Trofimoff, Falke, Ecco, Carlo Pazolini, Mascotte, Thomas Munz, Vans, Converse, Jack Wolfskin and other brands. Also recently opened in the shopping center are the Mowgli trampoline center, a mirror maze, a children's playground called Cobweb, and a play park called Zabava. Panda Park is preparing to open.

In the food court area (food court), PhoBo and JD Burgers are open, among the new restaurants are Zafferano, Forte Bello and Edoko, united by one space in the coffee shop format - Cofix. By the end of the year, Aviapark is scheduled to open an original food court on a platform with panoramic glazing on the 4th floor. Aviapark has opened a fitness center “Come on Gym” with an area of 3,700 sq.m. (comeongym.ru)

Work schedule

The largest shopping center is open from 10 am to 10 pm from Sunday to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday evenings, another hour of work is added - the doors of shops in the shopping center close at 23.00.

Gadgets and movies

The main attraction of the Aviapark shopping center is the largest cylindrical aquarium in Europe and the tallest in the world, stretching upward to all six floors of the building. The aquarium, 23 meters high and 6 meters in diameter, holds 370,000 liters of seawater and contains about 3,500 fish.

The educational and entertainment center for children KidZania invites young visitors to the shopping center to its creative workshops and attractions (website www.kidzania.ru).

The Karo cinema, operating in Aviapark, seats up to 4,000 people in its 17 halls and is one of the largest in the capital. The cinema occupies about 10,000 sq. meters on the fourth floor of the largest shopping center in Moscow. You can view the schedule on the website karofilm.ru

The Village Guide: Five main shopping centers in Moscow

When huge shopping centers replaced Soviet department stores, it was obvious that they would fill the gap between expensive boutiques and Asian markets with cheap consumer goods. To find out what role they play in urban infrastructure today and how they differ from each other, The Village made a series about the main malls of Moscow.

"Okhotny Ryad"

Manezhnaya square, 1, building 2

It is far from the largest shopping center in Moscow, but perhaps one of the most visited. This is largely due to its favorable location - a stone's throw from Red Square. Okhotny Ryad, built in 1997, became one of the first shopping centers of the new type. The selection of brands presented in Okhotny Ryad is not much different from any other shopping center in Moscow. Except that many of them first appeared here.

"Afimoll"

Presnenskaya embankment, 2

Of the existing shopping centers within the Moscow Ring Road, Afimall is the newest and largest. After two years of work in the six-story Afimall, not all spaces are still occupied, although there is now its own parking lot, kosher restaurants, fast food fish and frozen yogurt in the food court. The brands presented in Afimall generally repeat the standard set of the Moscow shopping center, but there are also stores that first appeared here in Russia: Banana Republic, American Eagle, H&M Home.

"Metropolis"

Leningradskoe highway, 16

A spacious and bright shopping center, where, despite not the most convenient location, it is impossible to find at least one unoccupied room. It has the largest food court in the city and many entertainment options, including for children. Metropolis is associated with the arrival of perhaps the most important street brands in Russia, from the Swedish H&M to the British River Island and New Look. The mall itself is divided into atriums, which is explained by the very shape of the building - an irregular semicircle.

"Atrium"

Zemlyanoy Val, 33

The management company Ingeocom, which is currently engaged in the construction of the central stadium in Sochi, built the Atrium in 2002. This shopping center is notable primarily for its location: it is located right on the Garden Ring. In addition to shops (Uniqlo, Topshop, H&M and Zara, among others), there is a nine-screen cinema, a standard set of food court outlets, a fitness club and even a children's theater.

"European"

Kievsky Station Square, 2

The first shopping center in Russia and the second in the world in terms of attendance: an average of 140 thousand people come here every day. Here you can find the standard set of the Inditex holding, chain shoe stores, such as Aldo or Ecco, huge stores of cosmetics, accessories, and jewelry. Among other things, “European” is also a leisure place: there is a cinema, an ice skating rink, and also a nightclub and karaoke with hookah.

"Seasons"

In 2007, a huge deluxe shopping center “Vremena Goda” opened on Kutuzovsky Prospekt. The owners of the shopping center believe that fashion is not subject to any changes, it is relevant at all times, and the shopping center itself is called nothing less than a “fashion and style gallery.”

On six floors of the spacious shopping complex there are more than 150 boutiques of such fashion giants as Baldinini, Burberry, Cartier, Chanel, Chantal Thomass, Chaumet, Dunhill, Etam, Gant, Gerard Darel, Jaeger London, Marlboro Classics, Sonia Rykiel, St. James, Tommy Hilfiger.

"Color"

Going to the Tsvetnoy department store is like going on an excursion to the museum of architecture and design. The owners of the shopping center promised to create something extraordinary and kept their promise. In Tsvetnoy, both shopaholics and gourmets will find something to entertain themselves with. For the first category of buyers with discerning taste, there are shops, boutiques and corners of the world's most famous brands Mary Katrantzou, Vivienne Westwood, Carven, Folk, Edun, Kolor, All Saints, Maje, Sandro and Reiss.

But what other shopping centers in the city do not have and what Tsvetnoy is so famous for is a farmer’s market on the 5th floor, consisting of many rows, food counters, groceries and confectioneries.

The habitual purchase of orange jam or ripe apples turns into a real mini-performance with rich scenery and professional actors dressed as sellers.

After paying for your purchases, you expect to hear applause behind you. An exclusive offer from Tsvetnoy is the possibility of free preparation of any purchased product in the Antresol restaurant. Here, in the warm season, the terrace offers an incomparable panoramic view of Moscow.

Of course, it’s unlikely that a family will gather at Tsvetnoy for Saturday shopping, but residents of the Central District often pop into the department store for hot pastries, oriental sweets, fresh fish and real Vologda milk. And the best part is that food prices are not much different from the capital’s mid-price supermarkets.

Address: Tsvetnoy Boulevard, 15, building 1

Price segment: medium and premium

You can name several more well-known metropolitan shopping centers with approximately the same diverse range of favorite brands - “Golden Babylon” on Prospekt Mira (metro station VDNKh), “Metropolis” (metro station “Voikovskaya”), RIO (Dmitrovskoye Shosse), “ European" (metro station "Kyiv"). All of them are equipped with underground parking, and on the upper levels there are food courts where you can have a snack after a tiring, but so pleasant shopping.

A little about the shopping center "European"

When huge shopping centers replaced Soviet department stores, it was obvious that they would fill the gap between expensive boutiques and Asian markets with cheap consumer goods. To find out what role they play in urban infrastructure today and how they differ from each other, The Village continues the series about the main malls of Moscow. In the next issue - the shopping and entertainment center "European".

Letter

You see black squares instead of photographs because the management of the shopping center refused to provide The Village with any information, as well as to take photographs, sending the following letter to the editor: “European shopping center does not support your decision to launch something uncontrolled by us discussion of our shopping center on your resource (we have our own website, our own bloggers and PR specialists), so the information you are interested in will not be provided and you will be denied photography.

If your actions cause us commercial damage or damage the reputation of our center, we are ready to defend our commercial interests by all legal means, including in court.”

Dear friends! If you like to travel around Russia and at the same time count your money, read the article about that, I have selected the best and proven sites. Read and get your money back!

Story

Opened in 2006, “European” at one time became one of the first places in the center of Moscow where the middle class could buy more or less decent things: it was there that TopShop, Zara, Marks & Spencer, Tara Jarmon, Massimo Dutti and about more stores opened 40 Western marks. However, it is impossible to build a comfortable shopping experience on one good sample, and due to a combination of factors, the shopping center gives way to its competitors.

The “European” building, designed by the famous Soviet architect Yuri Platonov (he is also, for example, the author of “Golden Brains”, the building of the Russian Academy of Sciences), is a textbook example of Luzhkov’s architecture. The building of the Kievsky railway station, standing across the road, looks girlishly fragile next to it.

And the shopping center itself, according to many experts, turned out to be simply awkward. If the main entrance is located directly opposite the metro, then the rest lead to nowhere. But even this is not as confusing as the paid parking located on the fifth and sixth floors. By the way, “European” has more than once been included in the ratings of the ugliest buildings in Moscow.

However, “European” remains the first shopping center in Russia and the second in the world in terms of attendance: an average of 140 thousand people come here every day, only the Dubai Mall in the United Arab Emirates has more. And during the annual Cosmopolitan Shopping Night, the mall breaks all records.

Due to the crowds of people randomly moving through its labyrinths, it can be uncomfortable to be here, especially on weekends. Such popularity is easily explained by the location: the city center, on the one hand - the station, on the other - the famous flower market, closed with the arrival of Mayor Sobyanin and gradually spread into the neighboring alleys. This largely determines the average visitor to the shopping center.

Maybe that’s why the square in front of Evropeisky was chosen to hold a rally during interethnic clashes in December 2010. And on June 5, 2012, a high-profile fight between people from the Caucasus and football fans took place there.

Muscovites come here for the flagship Topshop and River Island, huge Zara, M.A.C. cosmetics, Kixbox corner, sportswear on the fourth floor. For some, “European” is also a leisure place: there is a cinema, an ice skating rink, and also a nightclub and karaoke with hookah.

Owners

“European” belongs to the “Kyiv Ploshchad” company, founded by businessmen God Nisanov and Zarakh Iliev - they take first place in the Forbes magazine ranking of the most successful owners of commercial real estate. Childhood friends who grew up in the same village in Azerbaijan have been working together in Moscow since 1992.

Their first joint object was the “Electronic Fair on Rizhskaya”, then they acquired 15 hectares at the Cherkizovsky market, in the early 2000s they opened the “Moscow” trade and fair complex in Lublin, then bought the “Ukraine” hotel and the “Gardener” market from the capital government ", and in 2002 they began construction of the "European".

The annual income of the Kyiv Ploshchad company exceeds one billion dollars. In the list of the richest businessmen in Russia according to Forbes, Zarakh Iliev is in 35th place, and God Nisanov is in 37th place.

Device

“European” has almost everything - it is a consumer paradise for the middle class. Here you can find the standard set of the Inditex holding, chain shoe stores, such as Aldo or Ecco, huge stores of cosmetics, accessories, and jewelry. However, “European” is trying to cover higher segments of the market. In addition to affordable brands, there are more expensive ones, for example Karen Millen and Fabi.

The mall also allocates space for a two-level Pret a Porter gallery, uniting boutiques of Alena Akhmadullina, Furla, Tru Trussardi, Patrizia Pepe, Lancel and other luxury brands. The gallery, unlike the rest of the shopping center, is almost always empty.

What do they say about Atrium?

When huge shopping centers replaced Soviet department stores, it was obvious that they would fill the gap between expensive boutiques and Asian markets with cheap consumer goods. To find out what role they play in urban infrastructure today and how they differ from each other, The Village continues the series about the main malls of Moscow. In the third issue - the Atrium shopping center on Zemlyanoy Val.

“Atrium” is a shopping and entertainment complex located on the Garden Ring, very close to the Kursky railway station, which adds spice to the areas surrounding the shopping center. Many people come to the Atrium armed with the desire to watch a movie; for these purposes there is a nine-screen (though not very cozy) Karo Film cinema. “A large selection of restaurants and cafes” turns out to be represented by a strong-smelling food court and Il Patio with Friday’s, where there is always a queue. But on the territory of the Atrium there is a fitness club and a children's theater, which not every shopping center can boast of.

Atrium is also distinguished by its eco-programs, for example, special bins for separate waste collection are installed here, in honor of which a 13-meter-tall man assembled from ordinary plastic bags was placed in the atrium of the shopping center. At different times, installations by the art group AES+F were located at the same place and the singer Santigold gave a concert. Speaking of music, Follow Me Radio is playing throughout the mall.

Story

The management company Ingeocom built the Atrium in 2002, and is now engaged in the construction of the central stadium in Sochi, where the main competitions will be held. The shopping center is located next to the Kursky railway station, which is beginning to expand this year, after which the objects may be even closer to each other.

Device

In terms of the range of brands that began promoting in Russia, Atrium bypasses many shopping centers in the city. The first Uniqlo opened here with bargain prices on Japanese denim, and Italian clothing Sia, American cosmetics Kiehl’s and much more were brought here for the first time. For some brands, the shopping center is still the only point of sale in the city.

Due to the modest size of the store, there are no flagships - the largest stores of the brand with rare lines and a large assortment, but in the shopping center you can find stores of almost all popular mass market brands: H&M, Zara, Topshop, Uniqlo.

The lease at Atrium is usually signed for five years, so there are not frequent openings here.

Food court

The Atrium food court consists of the traditional set of components of any other large shopping center: several places with inexpensive burgers, fried chicken at KFC, pancakes with dozens of toppings at Teremok, sandwiches, salads and pizzas in places whose names are not worth remembering .

In addition to the food court, on each of the floors of the Atrium there are several separate cafes, which you can’t go to specifically: “Shokoladnitsa”, “Yolki-Palki”, Il Patio, Friday’s, “Coffee House”. The most decent one - Starbucks - is located on the ground floor not far from H&M. There, across the store from the coffee shop, there used to be a Dunkin’ Donuts, but now they sell underwear in its place.

An interesting detail about the third floor: here, on the territory of the cinema, there is the first Mövenpick cafe in Moscow, where they sell not only ice cream, but also other food.

Services

On the minus first floor there is a large grocery “Green Crossroads”, there is also a free children's theater “Courage” with interactive performances on weekends. There is an atelier, dry cleaning, shoe repair - all more or less necessary service areas. At the entrance to the underground parking you can use the car wash services. Atrium also has its own fitness center of the same name with massage rooms and locker rooms.

The most important thing about the Moscow House of Books on Arbat:... 15 most interesting facts about the museum “Uprising...

Built in 2010 in Mexico City, the idea of the architects from the Rojkind Arquitectos bureau was to combine the space of the mall with the street. To achieve this, the walls of the building were made transparent, thereby blurring the boundaries of interior and exterior and offering visitors to the shopping center and passers-by an unusual version of interactivity.

The “porous” facade offers a large number of possibilities for designing shop windows, thereby making them mediators between the spaces of the city and the store. The wall is a three-layer mesh of hexagons of different sizes, as well as steel, aluminum and glass. When creating this original design, the architects were inspired by moire patterns and optical art. The facade turned out to be “alive” - stairs and ramps pass through the spaces of “layered” walls, so visitors to the store create constant dynamics.

Emporia Shopping Center

Malmo, Sweden.
year 2012.

This impressive building can be called a whole attraction - the architect Geert Wingardh (Wingardh Arkitktkontor AB) decided to move away from the standard banal types of shopping centers and designed a facade that looks like a piece of melted amber. The interior spaces are grouped around bright atriums, each with its own color theme. The design is thought out to the smallest detail - look at the leather handrails and the color of the stitching on the seats! Everything is aimed at attracting the maximum number of visitors. In addition to retail space, Emporia includes office space and residential apartments. The multifunctional complex instantly became very popular and is one of the dominant features of the city.

Riverside 66

Tianjin, China.
year 2014.

The building was conceived as a public space that unites and activates local residents. In addition, it was intended to become a city landmark and connect the Hai Hi River with He Ping Lu Boulevard. This shopping center by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates is an ideal example of a modern commercial building that offers its visitors new shopping and lifestyle options. The complex is the longest building in this region of China, its length is 350 meters. The large-scale building starts from the city embankment and is a continuation of the river, which seems to flow into the surrounding residential buildings. Riverside 66 is a supershell - a facade of twenty-two concrete beams and ten thousand glass panels. The building houses an incredible number of advertising screens.

Mikimoto Ginza Shopping Center

Tokyo, Japan .
2005 year.

At first glance, the building gives the impression of being quite simple - an ordinary prism. But the windows give it a memorable image - chaotically located, with irregular geometry, they make the shopping center look like a huge piece of Swiss cheese. Some windows are located in the corners of the building, in those places where the load-bearing support is usually located - which further emphasizes that this is not an ordinary building at all. The load-bearing element of the almost fifty-meter building is the shell façade, which frees the internal spaces from beams and columns. Painting also played an important role - the Mikimoto company deals with pearls, so it was necessary to achieve a perfectly glossy surface. The building looks especially beautiful at night, when the windows are illuminated and the interior begins to appear through the glass.

Market Hall in Rotterdam

Rotterdam, Netherlands.
year 2014.

Architects MVRDV and Dutch engineers implemented an incredible project for a multifunctional complex, combining a market, residential apartments, a shopping center and a parking lot at the same time. A huge arch covers the farmer's fair, underground retail spaces and parking are located, and the building itself houses chain markets, housing and offices.

The inner walls of the arch are decorated with stunning artistic panels by Arno Coenen - it’s not for nothing that the market is popularly nicknamed the “Rotterdam Sistine Chapel”. Market Hall gave the city a huge boost for further development. This amazing MFC was doomed to success long before its construction was completed. Interest from the public was fueled by the fact that the construction process of Market Hall could be observed using augmented reality technologies and the future result could be seen.

Shopping center in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
2016

The shopping center was designed by the Barcelona firm Vilalta Arquitectura and the architects managed not only to give the building an impressive size an elegant look, but also to create a building with excellent natural ventilation - which was a very important task in local conditions. The shopping center is a lightweight concrete building with patterns of holes shaped like diamonds. These openings create not only ventilation, but also allow the rays of the sun to scatter throughout the interior space, forming stunning patterns of light and shadow, and the white interior protects against overheating and creates a charming aura.

Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
year 2009.

The mall has six floors and an area of 77 thousand sq.m. is one of the largest shopping centers in Germany. A bold project by Massimiliano Fuksas, the concept of which was based on futuristic design and the flow of external space into the internal. Walls glazed with transparent triangular panels, “black holes” on the facade and roof, a 42-meter long escalator - all these elements make the building unique.

VitraHaus

Weil am Rhein, Germany.
2010

VitraHaus is nothing more than a showroom of furniture from the Vitra furniture company. Famous architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron were invited to design the building and they excellently coped with the expectations placed on them. The architects managed to very ironically rethink the idea of a modern building, combining it from a dozen houses with glass ends and gable roofs. Such cozy, home-like spaces contributed to a better perception of the presented furniture, in contrast to the huge hangar-like halls. The building, more than 20 meters high, in addition to display rooms, housed a conference hall, a museum and a store attached to it, as well as a lobby with a cafe and a summer veranda.

Sino Ocean Taikoo Shopping Center

Chengdu, China.
2015

Sino Ocean Taikoo is the heart of Chengdu, China. This is a unique harmony of shops, restaurants, street cafes, performance venues, offices, apartments and cozy alleys, squares and courtyards. The project concept includes the strategic conservation and adaptation of six surviving buildings and ancient alleys belonging to a nearby ancient Buddhist temple. The creators of this complex were inspired by the centuries-old traditions of shopping streets, while introducing a modern vision of buildings into the project and adapting the structure to modern realities, creating a bright and attractive atmosphere. The beauty of architecture is manifested in the beautiful proportions of low-rise buildings, complemented by original landscape design.
