The material from which we will make a wooden frame is stained cedar, which you will not find anywhere else! Only from us you can buy wooden carvings made of stained cedar.
What it is?
This is a sawn cedar trunk that has lain in the river for more than 50 years. The sapwood of a cedar trunk, over a long period of time under water, becomes covered in blue and overgrown with moss, and the wood acquires an unusually pleasant pinkish color. The moss with rotted sapwood is first cut down by hand with an ax, and then only sawed into boards.
Under water, the internal tension of the tree is balanced, so a product made of stained cedar does not bend, does not crack, and lasts forever!

And so, the material for the frame is ready. For comparison, we photographed a cut with a cutter on a board made of stained cedar and regular dry cedar, so that the texture and color of the material could be seen.

We continue to work in our workshop.
What was done?

  • They sawed the lumber into boards.
  • Sawn the boards into slats the right size for joining panels for threading.
  • The boards were joined (glued) together for the carved design of the frame.
  • We assembled the frame for the mirror.

So that our mirror does not lead, i.e. so that it does not bend, we will assemble it from slats that we will glue together:

We will assemble the frame for the mirror from bars and glue it together:

Glue the slats for the shield:

The shields must be planed in order to start making rough carvings:

For the wooden frame made of stained cedar, we are all ready! Once dry, you can start carving wood!
You will definitely see what our mirror will be like if you come to visit us!

Work on creating the frame is proceeding as planned. Now we were preparing the base frame and preparing wooden shields for a carved pattern.
What was done?

  • Replacing screws when gluing the base of a wooden frame onto wooden dowels.
  • Two pieces of carved ornament for the frame are milled.
  • One detail of the carved ornament was cut out.

We will place the base of the frame for the mirror on wooden dowels; when the frame was glued together, we used screws. We check the angle of the frame, we need the angle to be 90 degrees:

We make dowels from hard wood: either birch or maple. We make dowels by hand using a chisel:

We insert a wooden dowel into the drilled corner:

We cut the dowel flush and now the frame for the mirror is assembled using wooden dowels:

Today we had two parts of a carved pattern milled. We cut them out from a solid shield.
We trim the ends:

We must trim the back side of the carved ornament so that the pattern is light and airy:

Now we need to cut the entire carved ornament by hand using cutters. This will take several days. Therefore, we will show the already cut out mirror elements immediately as we cut them out.
If our guests are interested in what a finished wooden carved mirror will look like, then you are welcome to come to our workshop!

Any person strives to decorate his home, make it unique and cozy with the help of works of art, interior decoration non-standard design solutions. In most cases, paintings serve as decoration. Around the 14th century, their framing first appeared. Of course, the frames of that time had practically no individuality, they did not carry any semantic meaning, did not complement the picture, representing it. Only three centuries later, the perimeter of the frames changed in appearance and began to represent a series of descending steps that led directly to the image. Then the frame began to focus attention on the picture itself, being its continuation.

The wooden frame first appeared in history in the 16th century. Her homeland was Italy. And at the end of the 17th century, carved frames appeared on Russian soil in the interiors of rich people’s houses and even then were a sign of luxury and excellent taste. The plasticity of the relief was most often created by exquisite wood carving, as it is today. The eighteenth century did not change the significant role of the carved frame in the interior. Moreover, this type of framing has spread to mirrors, doors and trim.

When new styles appeared in art, the style of the wooden frame began to change and determined the perception of the image as a whole. In the Middle Ages, the wooden frame was shaped like a Gothic window. But, to replace the sculptural frame in gothic style, used in the XIV-XV centuries, wooden frames for mirrors and paintings come in new technology execution. They began to be made in the “grisaille” style, which involved the use different shades one color. But art does not stand still, so as soon as new trends in painting appeared late XIX century, the framing of the paintings was also updated. Then, as in the 20th century, a wooden frame was characterized by a more expressive profile, and plastic relief was used to a minimum.

Wooden frames must be harmoniously combined with the overall design of the interior and furniture. IN modern styles A frame with a simple and strict shape will look advantageous. For classic interior, Baroque, Empire style - baguettes with patterns, monograms and lush decor are typical. And for minimalist styles - modest, simple, thin baguette frames, without elaborate patterns.

Other applications in modern interiors:

Often, instead of a painting, you can find an ornamental composition, which is framed with baguettes. Moreover, very often in interiors you can find a wooden frame as an independent component of the interior. It will look especially beneficial on walls with a pronounced graphic design. The use of several baguettes is also popular different forms and sizes, made in the same style.

Wooden carved frames also used for framing graphics, photos, mirrors, doorways, windows, aquariums in the wall. There are special baguettes for TVs. They will truly be an appropriate frame for objects of artistic and other value. Wooden photo frames have become common in the 21st century - they focus attention on the image, thus enhancing the perception and overall impression of the work.

In addition to their main purpose, mirrors have another function - they are interior decoration. Carved wood mirror frames give a luxurious look to the interior of the room. Round and oval options are popular in this regard.
