Is it possible to repair a leather jacket? How to repair a leather or faux leather jacket with your own hands - what to do if the leather is torn, how to sew up a cut and restore scuffs. How to seal a hole in a leather jacket

Leather products look very stylish, but due to the nature of the material they require constant care. If the inevitable happens and your favorite item is damaged, you need to know how to fix it. leather jacket and restore it to its former appearance.

Of course, you can contact a clothing repair shop, but professional services tend to be quite expensive. You can deal with the most common problems and defects on your own. It is enough to allocate some time for the recovery procedure and strictly follow these recommendations. This way you “reanimate” the product, giving it a second life.

This is perhaps the most common problem among leather jacket owners. If you get caught on a poorly driven nail, iron fence or other sharp object– an ugly cut will remain on the item, spoiling its appearance. First you need to figure out what the gaps can be.

On a note! The most common are two cases: either a piece of skin is completely torn out, or the cut will be in the shape of a corner. Please note that recovery procedures in these situations are radically different.

To begin with, we suggest considering step by step instructions, how to repair a leather jacket if it has a “corner” tear.

  • Turn the product inside out. Find a stitched seam on one of the sleeves, and then carefully open it. It is most convenient to work on a clean, flat, well-lit surface, so think in advance about where you will carry out the procedure. Lay out the jacket, and then insert your hand into the ripped hole. You need to find the gap from the wrong side.
  • Wipe the torn area thoroughly with a special solvent to remove excess fat.

Before work, the skin must be degreased

  • Take a fabric patch or piece of leather. You need to select the size so that the patch is more area damage by 1-2 cm on all sides.
  • Apply leather glue to the underside of the patch, and also treat the area around the tear with a brush or cotton swab. Important: you should not apply glue directly to the damaged area, because in this case the patch will stick unevenly. After processing, let the glue dry a little (leave the product for 25 minutes), and then carefully apply a second layer.
  • Glue one side of the tear, proceed carefully and slowly so that. Then align the corners and apply the patch completely to the cut. Apply firm pressure to the junction of the damaged area. Remember: the smoother the joint, the more invisible the seam will be.

You can press the edges of the tear using a toothpick.

  • Next you need to consolidate the result and check the quality of the work done, so turn the jacket inside out and bend it at the damage site. If the place where the edges meet has separated, then using a thin brush, coat the edges of the tear with a thin layer of glue. Push them together tightly and press down with your finger until they are well secured.

  • Fold the product evenly on the table, and place a weight on the patched area. Heavy books or a can of preserved food will do. Leave the jacket in this position for a day.
  • After the required time has passed, treat the bonding line with a special cream paint for leather. This will help disguise the seam and give the surface an even color.
  • Now all you have to do is sew up the lining and enjoy the result of the work done.

Eliminating holes

Every owner of such a thing should know how to fix a hole in a leather jacket.

After all, you need to act in this situation immediately. If restoration measures are not taken in time, then your favorite item can be damaged even more, and its appearance will be forever ruined.

On a note! Please note that once you have discovered the torn area, you should fasten it with adhesive tape from the wrong side.

This will prevent further spreading of the material. This is especially true if you are away from home and the time and resources do not allow you to begin repairs. Let's look at options for solving the most common problems and situations in which they are best used.

A large tear can be carefully repaired using a leather piece identical to the one that had the hole.

Let's get started:

  • Sew it up. This method is quite radical, but if the hole is quite large, then you simply cannot do without it. It will be problematic to glue a torn area of leather, so it is better to prepare threads, a suitable patch and a machine. So, now let's look at how to repair a leather jacket at home. First, you need to rip the lining, first turning the product inside out. Then carefully trim the edges of the hole to make it easier to pick up the patch and to make the damaged area look neat after repair. It is also very important to choose a material of the desired texture and appropriate color as a patch. If you do everything correctly, the jacket will look like new, and the place where the hole was will be completely invisible. You will need two patches: one can be made of any material, since it is attached from the inside, and the second - exclusively from leather that matches the jacket, because we will sew it with outside. By the way, their size should be 1-2 cm larger than the incision site on all sides. Attach the selected scraps and sew them. Experts recommend choosing a strong needle for this procedure, which is designed for working with leather items. If you neglect this advice, you may not only ruin the jacket, but also damage sewing machine.

  • We seal it. Is it possible to repair a leather jacket without resorting to such radical methods? If you don’t have a sewing machine or the hole is small, you can carefully seal it. Place the torn piece in the damaged area using tweezers, and then glue it with tape. Next, you need to turn the jacket inside out and rip the lining to get to the hole on the inside. In this case, the prepared patch is glued to a piece of leather that we secured earlier. Once you have completed all the steps above, turn the product inside out and remove the tape. Make sure that the patch lies evenly, straighten it with your fingers and press firmly for 1-2 minutes. Let the glue dry completely and then sew the lining closed. Thanks to this method, you can quickly and efficiently repair your favorite item without resorting to the expensive services of specialists.

Repairing the collar

Small holes and cuts in this area can be eliminated using one of the above methods. It's no secret that during wear, the skin is exposed various contaminants. One of the most common is the greasy collar, which greatly spoils the appearance of the product. Let's figure out how to deal with this problem and return the jacket to its former cleanliness. To work, you will need aviation gasoline and special leather paint.

Spray the affected areas with gasoline and then let it dry. The procedure must be repeated 2-3 times. During this time, you will see that the greasy stains disappear, and the item acquires its normal color. Naturally, such treatment will not remain without a trace, so it is necessary to apply paint of a suitable tone.

This should be done using a special sponge in one layer, evenly painting every centimeter of the surface. For best result Professionals recommend applying a protective gloss over the paint.

Before use this method test its effect on small area skin, and only after that begin to restore the entire collar. This will help avoid damage and ensure that the product does not deteriorate.

  • Through cuts. In this case, you must first secure a patch from the inside, onto which the product will be applied. This will also help prevent the hole from warping as it dries. It is best to select a scrap from similar leather or dublerin. Once you have it glued down, apply two thin coats of liquid leather over the top and smooth it out with a dry sponge.
  • Cuts with uneven edges. How to repair a leather jacket if it is torn unevenly? Let's figure it out. To begin, trim the edges using a sharp blade or special knife. If you singe the product, then you need to cut off all the burnt areas. Then glue a suitable patch from the inside, and apply liquid leather to it in two layers.

Absolutely anything can break. Often people encounter such a problem as the formation of a hole in a leather jacket.

Repairing a leather jacket is a painstaking job. If the material is torn, then the person is required to have minimal experience in using sewing tools. When these skills are absent, it is better to abandon such an undertaking, as it can only make things worse.

What methods of sealing leather items exist and what is required to complete the job?

Methods for repairing leather products

Nowadays there is a huge selection of materials for gluing surfaces.

In order to glue the product unnoticed, the glue must have a number of characteristics, these include:

  • elasticity;
  • good viscosity;
  • quick drying;
  • heat resistance;
  • resistance to water, fats and oils.

The universal adhesive “Moment” best suits these characteristics. In some situations, you can use rubber glue, which is used to repair shoes.

Other materials are used much less frequently: PVA, nairite glue, liquid leather.

What to choose, you need to decide for yourself. But before performing the procedure, you need to read the instructions.

Using “Moment” glue

This situation often occurs when outerwear a piece of material comes off and a hole is formed. The situation can be corrected.

How to seal a leather jacket at home?

To repair things you will need:

  • glue “Moment”, which is used for gluing shoes. It's called rubber. It is considered elastic, so it will fit well on the skin;
  • a piece of leather or suede. They can be taken from an old and unnecessary glove;
  • scissors;
  • brush;
  • several pieces of toothpicks;
  • solvent. It will help degrease the plane being glued;
  • paint for leather products;
  • hammer.

You can sew up a jacket using glue according to the following scheme:

  1. First you need to take the patch and fix it on the wrong side of the jacket, ensuring access to the torn part.
  2. It is better to find a place in the lining where you can tear the fabric and get to the damage.
  3. Take an old glove. A small piece is cut out of it and glued to inside damage. We glue the scrap, but in order for it to fix well, you need to put a heavy object on it, for example, a hammer. It is worth noting that a piece of skin can be any color, since it will not be visible anyway.
  4. Once the patch is dry, you can work on the front side. Here you already need to choose the appropriate shade of the shred. It is cut exactly the same shape as the hole itself. The edges should completely meet each other. To ensure they match, glue is used for alignment.
  5. As soon as everything sticks, the patch needs to be tinted. This will help make it less noticeable. For such purposes, paint for leather products is used.
  6. The final step is sewing up the lining. It is necessary to sew up the fabric with the same threads that were used when making the stitches.

It will be difficult for a beginner to repair a cut on a jacket this way. Therefore, it is better to choose an easier method.

Repairing a cut on a jacket

A cut on a leather jacket very often appears after being caught on a nail. Many people believe that after such an incident, clothing can no longer be repaired.

But how do you fix a hole in a leather jacket? Everything can be fixed with gluing.

If the item is torn, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. First, the leather outerwear is turned inside out. Then the lining fabric is carefully examined. This is necessary in order to find the place where the seam was broken.
  2. After identifying it, you need to pick up the stitches and use your hand to find the cut.
  3. Now you need to prepare the patch. In order for it to hold well, the area of the rupture must be degreased with a solvent.
  4. A piece of leather or suede is selected. Its size should be several centimeters larger than the cut itself.
  5. The inside edges should be treated with glue. The same composition must be applied to the shred.
  6. The glue should dry a little. This will take about 10-20 minutes.
  7. This procedure can be repeated again.
  8. As soon as the glue dries, the flap is applied to the torn surface. In order for it to fix well, you need to press and place a heavy object.
  9. After two or three minutes, the jacket is turned right side out. The cut edges need to be pulled closer to each other. A toothpick coated with glue will help with this.
  10. Once everything is dry, you can apply paint.
  11. The final step is to carefully sew up the lining.

Don't worry about the hole appearing again. If you use this repair method, the jacket will no longer tear in this place.

Application of liquid skin

This method is good when the jacket has small cracks.

How to seal a leather jacket with your own hands using liquid leather? Do-it-yourself repair of a leather jacket is done using a bandage and a small spatula.

The second item can be easily made from an old bank card. A strip approximately one or two centimeters wide is cut out, and then the end is slightly sharpened.

The following diagram will help you glue the hole:

  1. A small piece is made from the bandage. It should be slightly larger than the torn tissue.
  2. Apply liquid leather to the front side using a homemade spatula. A piece of bandage is placed on top and adheres well.
  3. The area to be glued must be dry. This will take about 7-10 minutes. The procedure is repeated again. Only liquid skin is applied to the bandage flap.
  4. The repaired item must be completely dry. This will take from two to four hours.

This method allows you to repair your leather jacket yourself. But the problem may arise in acquiring liquid skin. The material is not sold in all sewing stores.

Repair of leatherette items

Nowadays, manufacturers offer a wide range of jackets that are made of leatherette. They are no worse than leather ones, but much cheaper.

But how to fix such a thing? It can be repaired using exactly the same methods.

It is worth noting that not just any glue is suitable for repairing such products. If you seal a hole with “Superglue”, it can lead to damage. What to do then? We remove the glued area and repair the jacket in a safer way.

Non-woven tape will help remove the damage. This material is very thin, so it will lie unnoticeably.

The procedure must be performed according to the following scheme:

  1. Find the location of the hole on the wrong side. Open the lining along the seam and allow free access to the damage.
  2. Glue non-woven tape to the inside. Place gauze on top. Use a hot iron.
  3. When the material sticks, the gauze can be removed.
  4. Sew the lining on the inside with a neat seam.

This method is considered easy and simple. When exposed to steam, the tape is firmly attached to the surface. This will create an invisible patch.

If a person does not know how to sew a jacket, then you can watch instructional videos. As soon as you repair the item, you need to let it dry for two to three hours. When gluing, you should take into account all the recommendations of experienced housewives.

Restoring a jacket is a painstaking, almost jewelry-like process. On the Internet you can find both photos and videos that tell in detail how to repair a leather jacket yourself. But the recommendations are not always feasible - either special equipment or skills in working with specific materials are required. If you decide to take on leather repairs yourself, read the following: important tips. They will help you successfully solve this problem.

How to fix a gap with your own hands

It is believed that leather is a fairly durable material, but it can also tear. Although, of course, holes appear less often on such products than on fabric and canvas ones. If this has already happened, then the instructions for bringing the jacket into proper shape depend mainly on the form of damage that has occurred. There are situations when the material is torn by a “corner”, and there are situations when a piece of skin flies off completely.

In the first case, the sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Provide access to the tear from the inside of the leather jacket. It is necessary to rip the jacket lining along one of the seams.
  2. Carefully, as far as possible, smooth out the torn corner. Now you need to fit it back and secure it with tape on the front side.
  3. We glue a patch made of leather, thick fabric or suede from the inside. We make sure that the overlay is larger than the tear site and protrudes beyond each of its edges by 10-15 mm.
  4. Having smoothed the surface from the inside, we install something heavy on the front side. Leave the load until the patch is completely dry.
  5. We remove the tape. Apply a thin layer of glue along the entire joint of the gap from the outside (it is convenient to use the tip of a toothpick for this).
  6. We mask the damaged area with a special leather paint to match the product or a regular cream.
  7. Sew up the inner lining.

Important: Please note that the tape you take is initially very sticky. It may leave marks on the surface of the jacket. It's better to "weaken" it. To do this, glue it to the surface of your leg, peel it off, and then use it for its intended purpose.

In a situation where the hole in the jacket is obvious and a piece of material is completely torn out, repairing the product is somewhat different.

  1. We rip the lining from the inside in order to get to the place where the skin is torn.
  2. We level the damaged area as much as possible, glue a patch from the inside, and place a weight on it.
  3. After the glue has completely dried, we repair the front part of the product. If the “original” torn piece is lost, you need to cut another one from a flap of leather, which is as similar in characteristics as possible to the material of the jacket. We make sure that it is identical to the shape of the hole. We put this piece into the hole.
  4. Carefully fill the resulting joint with glue along the entire perimeter of the outer patch.
  5. After everything has dried, paint over the damaged area. Sew up the ripped lining.

If the gap is large and is in plain sight, then repairing it with your own hands will be quite problematic. It is better to contact qualified craftsmen for help in the studio. If an area of skin needs to be replaced, specialists will be able to select the most suitable flap and carefully stitch it in the right place.

Advice: Alternatively, you can seal the jacket yourself and add leather patches. Special attention care must be taken to disguise the damage. For example, you can install additional decor in this place. This approach will not only hide traces of the tear, but will also give the jacket originality.

How to sew up holes and cuts

In order to stitch the product, you will need a sewing machine, a special strong needle, a prepared leather patch and threads of a matching color. This largely determines how carefully you can deal with eliminating defects on a jacket at home.

Restoration of leather canvas consists of several steps:

  1. We get to the place of the tear from the inside of the jacket (to do this we rip the lining).
  2. We trim the edges of the hole, making them as even and smooth as possible. We prepare a fabric patch, which we apply in this place. We take into account that the flap should protrude beyond the edges of the “wound” by 1.5-2 cm.
  3. A piece of skin, which is slightly larger in size than the damaged area, is applied externally. Make sure that both patches are positioned evenly in relation to the hole.
  4. Using a sewing machine, attach the patches.

Important: Make sure the needle is strong enough and suitable for working with leather. Otherwise, you can not only ruin the jacket, but also damage the sewing machine.

How to fix a collar

If this section of the fabric is torn, then the damage can be repaired using any of the previously described methods.

The owners note that one of the most common problems the problem they encounter is the appearance of greasy marks on the collar. This happens if the product is worn for a long time and is not cleaned in a timely manner. There is a way to deal with this problem:

  1. We treat areas of the skin that have lost their attractive appearance with gasoline. Let the material dry and check the result. If necessary, repeat this manipulation several times.
  2. After removing all traces of fat, a special paint will allow you to restore the original color of the skin. Using a sponge, carefully paint the collar. Make sure that the product spreads evenly over the entire treated area.

Remember that at home there is always a risk of damaging the product due to careless actions. To prevent this, test the described method in an inconspicuous place. And only then boldly get to work restoring the proper appearance of the collar.

The question remains: if the leather on the jacket is cracked in this area, what should I do? To eliminate such defects, it is advisable to use special dyes that match the color. However, it is better not to use those that come in the form of sprays. Such products are usually sprayed from a distance of 30-40 cm, due to which the dye goes beyond the collar and falls on a larger area.

Repair using liquid leather

Today, the market offers a wide range of products that greatly facilitate the repair process. Particular attention should be paid to such a product as liquid skin. It allows you to quickly and easily eliminate various types of damage to the main fabric, pockets, collar and cuffs.

By choosing liquid leather to match the jacket, you can cope with both deep scratches and through cuts. The only difference in repair is that in the second case, you will need to glue a piece of fabric or leather from the inside that completely covers the cut. The rest is simple:

  1. Apply the product in 1-2 layers (depending on the depth of the damage) to the edges of the scratch. Make sure that liquid skin does not fall outside the cut. If this happens, remove the excess with a dry sponge.
  2. Before the mixture begins to dry out, blot the damaged area with a clean cloth. This will somewhat eliminate differences in the surface textures of the jacket and the applied product.

Carefully follow the instructions for use of liquid leather and repair outerwear at home without resorting to the services of professionals.

How to glue Moment with glue

It is very important to be able to choose the optimal means for restoring a damaged leather jacket. The right decision will focus on rubber shoe adhesive “Moment”. The main advantage of this product is its plasticity (the rest harden strongly when dried). detailed instructions for installing patches using glue is described above.

How to repair a leatherette jacket

Of course, it is not always possible to take the product to a workshop and you have to think about repairs yourself. Find out which repair products are advisable to use in each specific situation. So, if it’s cracked, what to do is always a pressing question.

When the scratches are shallow and small, then good decision The problem will be the use of an aerosol bottle with a dye. The main thing is to choose a tone identical to the product. And then, following the instructions on the bottle, it will not be at all difficult to give the jacket fresh look and mask the damaged area.

Important: spray it with safe distance(minimum 30 cm) and apply in a thin layer. This will help prevent the formation of drips on the canvas.

For more noticeable scratches, it is better to use dyes that penetrate deeper into the surface. artificial material. Similar substances with pigments are applied to the jacket with a soft sponge or a special brush and distributed evenly over the surface. After 30-40 minutes, the paint layer dries, and the jacket regains its attractive appearance.

If punctures or deep cuts form on the canvas, you can deal with them yourself by using liquid leather. The instructions for its use in this case are similar to those described above for the restoration of leather products.

How to restore a peeling jacket

As a result of excessively long use or after unsuccessful washing using aggressive powders, a leather jacket may begin to peel. If the damaged areas are small and not in the most visible places, special dyes can be used to disguise them. By being able to choose the most suitable color, you can hide the defects that appear and extend the life of the leather product.

The shabby area can be disguised by gluing decorative elements on top that match the style of the jacket. Such modernization not only restores a pleasant appearance, but also improves it, making it unique.

Leather jackets are an integral part of the wardrobe. They are chosen for practicality and durability.

But such a thing is subject to wear and tear and may require repairs over time. Most often, the jacket suffers from tearing of the fabric if you accidentally get caught on something sharp

When repairing holes in the skin, important role plays the degree of tension or stress placed on the damaged area. For example, the floors of a raincoat do not experience heavy loads - repairing such damage is quite easy.
If a hole or crack appears on a leather product, you can contact specialized workshops, where they will help you and repair the product.
In most workshops you can easily get services such as removing holes and scratches, applying patches, and eliminating shiny areas. In addition, you will be happy to provide cleaning and painting services for your favorite item, thereby giving it its original appearance.
Of course, you shouldn’t delude yourself, because damage to the jacket can be of such a nature that eliminating it seems impossible. However, as practice shows, such cases are extremely rare, and skillful hands craftsmen can make your product almost new.

In addition, you can do the repairs yourself. However, you need to be completely confident that you can carry out this labor-intensive process, since inept actions are likely to lead to even greater damage to the product.

In order to avoid such troubles, we will analyze the easiest way to repair the product. This method Suitable for repairing small holes in leather jackets.

So, if you decide to repair it yourself, prepare everything you need in advance. For this you will need some supplies.

  1. Buy “Moment” glue in the store, preferably “Crystal” - transparent, since ordinary glue with a yellow-brown tint on a black leather jacket can be slightly noticeable. Superglue "Second" is not suitable for gluing leather products, because after drying it hardens, making the treated area brittle, which will subsequently lead to a new rupture.
  2. Turn the jacket inside out. Gently peel back the lining to expose the tear in the fabric. Straighten the area so you can see it clearly and level it.
  3. Prepare a patch that is placed in the pocket of the product by the manufacturer along with spare buttons/snaps. If you don’t have the original patch, you can use any thick fabric of a similar color. In any case, it will not be visible to others, since the sizing is done from the inside. Cut the patch so that the piece is a couple of centimeters larger than the area to be repaired. The excess can be cut off upon completion of work.
  4. Use a brush to apply the glue more evenly and carefully coat the tear area on the reverse side and the patch. After 20 minutes, repeat the procedure. Try to avoid applying glue to the edge itself - the place of the tear.
  5. Carefully apply the patch to the area of the jacket with the hole and align the cut, gently ironing and pressing the material with your hand.
  6. Now process the cut from the outside. To do this, place the jacket in front of you, face up. Bend the edges slightly and apply a little glue, then press with your fingers. Excess glue can be easily removed by “rolling” it off the surface. On top you can apply a little Salamander leather paint in the appropriate color.

All that remains is to sew up the hole in the lining and enjoy the result and the savings in the family budget.

Now let's consider a case where it is not so easy to get to the underside of a leather product.

For repairs you will need:

  • Glue for gluing leather and other surfaces.
  • Scissors.
  • A piece of durable, but thin and elastic material - you can use leather, rubber, latex, textiles.
  • Abrasive, such as sandpaper.
  • Surface cleaning and degreasing products
  • Rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Let's get started! First, check the quality of the edges. If necessary, trim off excess pieces of leather and sand the surface with abrasive. Cut a piece from the prepared material that is several centimeters longer and wider than the cut. Treat it with abrasive.
Next, thoroughly degrease the surface of the product from the inside and the prepared patch. Apply glue to the patch and let it sit for some time in accordance with the instructions for using the glue. Then carefully place the patch inside the cut.

Coat the inside surface of the hole with glue, helping yourself with tweezers (as in the photo).

Wait 5-10 minutes until the glue dries a little. Straighten the patch, bring the edges of the cut together and press them firmly against the patch. At this stage, we can still correct or move the tear site by gently pressing it with our fingers.

Let the glue dry. It takes several hours for the glue to completely dry.

If everything is done correctly, only a barely noticeable scratch should remain on the product. To disguise it, use the method suggested in the post.

In the same way, you can repair a hole - when a piece of the surface is missing. However, this is only possible if you have a spare piece of leather. Sometimes manufacturers supply such pieces for repair along with the product.

If the damage to the canvas is quite serious, large in size, and located in the most visible place, then in this case your imagination and a decorative patch will help. Use your imagination and turn renovation into a decorating process. If necessary, you can apply several patches located symmetrically. They can always be passed off as decorative element clothes. This is where pieces of leather to match the main fabric come in handy.

Consider this example: a leather jacket that had its pockets torn out on the underside.

You will need:

  • threads suitable color;
  • needle for leather goods;
  • leather patches of matching color

The hole is quite big.

First you need to sew up with frequent but not tight stitches,

So that when sewing on the patch, the skin does not come apart and correct form the jacket was not distorted.

A very important step is to cut out the patch. Its shape, size and edges are all very important, because... A successful patch adds a special style and flair to your favorite item. Most often people make diamonds, squares, hearts and circles. I made the wrong trapezoid - better suited for pockets. And try to ensure that the patch covers at least 1 cm around the perimeter of the sewn part of the hole - otherwise the hole will come apart during wear.

On the side of the lining, lift it slightly and pin it with tailor's pins, since when the item fits according to the figure, the lining rises, and if this is not done, the lining will come apart at the seam or simply tear.

The next step is to sew the patch on sewing machine or with your hands - as you like.

Remove the basting and trim all the threads.
Front view

View from the reverse side.

And for symmetry, we put the same patch on the opposite pocket.

This is what the repaired leather jacket will look like in the end.

Long longitudinal gap can be repaired in the following way:

First, stitch the tear with a needle over the edge.

Cut out the patch a certain shape- as your imagination tells you and the configuration of the hole dictates (in our case, a strip). Their size must exceed the size of the damage. You should still have a few millimeters left per stitch. The patch should completely cover the hole made.

Sew the patch with a decorative stitch,

For example, for a long narrow patch, a “Goat” seam is suitable.

You can decorate other parts of the jacket with the same decor - it will look more organic.

Based on materials from rezinkin.rf, kakimenno.ru

Advice: The Goat stitch is made from left to right and consists of a series of intersecting inclined stitches. The length of the stitches and the distance between them should be the same.

So, the thread is brought to the front side along the bottom seam line, then a small stitch is made along the top seam line from point 2 to point 3 - you get the first inclined stitch. Now make a small stitch along the bottom seam line from point 4 to point 5 - you get a second inclined stitch. Then stitch again along the top seam line from point 6 to point 7, then along the bottom seam line from point 8 to point 9, etc.

As a result, the stitches form an even, straight strip. Looks beautiful :o)

I hope that now if we have a situation in which we need to decide how to repair a leather jacket, you can easily handle it!

Did you accidentally catch your favorite leather jacket on something? Or your dog's claws were too sharp through hole? Don't worry - everything can be fixed. It can still be repaired, and also dealt with on our own and without serious costs.

To do this, you will need to find a wide, flat, well-lit surface (for example, dinner table) and some items:

  • transparent tape;
  • sharp knife;
  • toothpick;
  • small piece fabrics;
  • leather paint;
  • elastic glue on water based which does not leave stains (superglues will not work);
  • needle and thread.

Step 1.
Using your fingers and a toothpick, align the edges of the tear together and tape them together. Before using the tape, first stick it on your hand so that later there are no unwanted marks on the leather jacket, and then on the skin.

Step 2.
Turn the jacket inside out through the seam where the sleeves are sewn. If you cannot see the factory seam, you can use a knife to make a neat cut. The cut must be large enough to reach the area we are repairing from the inside.

Step 3.
Apply glue to a small piece of fabric and press it against the inside of the hole, where a thin layer of glue has already been applied. Press firmly. When the glue sets, you can turn the jacket back over.

Step 4.
Carefully remove the tape. Squeeze a drop of glue onto cardboard or any other surface. Pull the edges of the hole slightly and use a toothpick to apply glue between them. Blot any remaining glue with a cloth and leave to dry.

Step 5.
Sew up the seam of the lining that you previously ripped open.

Step 6.

Paint the defect area with special leather paint.

Hints and warnings:

  • While working, try to concentrate as much as possible so as not to cause more damage to the jacket.
  • This is how leather jackets are repaired in most workshops because it is one of the easiest ways.
  • Re-read the instructions several times so as not to be distracted while working.
  • If you have started the repair process, then you definitely need to see it through to the end. If the glue dries before you complete all the requirements, all your efforts will go down the drain. Repeated application of glue can cause damage appearance jackets.
  • Most leather jackets are now dyed using special films, so make sure that the adhesive tape is tacky on the leather and is not visible.
  • This method is only suitable if your leather jacket has minor damage. Otherwise, it will most likely be necessary to apply a leather patch of the same color or another suitable one.

In this simple way you can try to “reanimate” your favorite leather jacket.
