How to install a mosquito net on a plastic window. How to install mosquito nets on plastic windows yourself. Advice from professionals. Installation of mosquito nets on plastic windows

In the summer, especially in hot weather, the living space becomes so stuffy that you have to open the window wide open. But here’s the problem: through the open window, blood-sucking insects and garbage from the street enter the house. What to do - a mosquito net will save you.

Installing an anti-mosquito cloth on a window is a responsible task. Without even the slightest experience or important knowledge, you can make a mistake when trying to measure a window for further installation of a mosquito net. There is also the possibility of making a mistake in choosing the right fasteners for the mesh.

But, if you become familiar with all the features of this process, it will become clear how simple and understandable it is.

Variety of fastening structures

Installing a mosquito net involves securely fixing it together with the supporting frame on the window frame. For this purpose, special fasteners are used. They come in several types:

  • plunger;
  • z-type for outdoor installation;
  • z-type for indoor installation.

On this moment These are the main types of fasteners, with the help of which you can easily and simply, and most importantly, reliably hang a mosquito net on the window. In addition to them, there is another type of fastening - “flags”. They are plastic hooks that secure the mesh support structure to the frame.

The “flags”, as they are called, are very flimsy as they are made of plastic. That's why they often break.

The above fasteners, on the contrary, guarantee a tight and durable fit of the mesh structure to the window, preventing insects from entering the room.

Installation of mesh with plunger fastening

The plunger is a metal rod of variable length. In the free state, the distance between its ends is maximum, since it is supported by a spring.

The plungers, there must be at least 4 of them, cut into the sides of the mesh frame so that the thinner ends of the fastening mechanism protrude beyond the edge of the supporting structure. The mesh is inserted into the window opening, where mounting holes for fastenings have already been prepared. Then the plungers, like a door latch, are firmly fixed mosquito net on the window.

Typically, a mosquito net with plunger clamps is included in the plastic window kit. If it was decided to assemble a mosquito net with my own hands, there are several important points to consider:

  • before you start doing anything, you need to take measurements of the window for the mosquito net, and the dimensions of the finished frame must match the dimensions of the opening;
  • the standard number of plungers is 4, two on each side of the frame. If the mesh dimensions are large, you can increase the number of fasteners.

Such fastening will provide long term operation of mosquito protection, protecting home residents from street allergens and mosquito bites.

Installation with external z-type fasteners

You can install a mosquito net on a plastic window using z-fastenings designed for installation on the street side of the window frame. The main requirement for this installation method is that the size of the mesh frame must exceed the size of the opening by 3 cm in height and 2 cm in width. There are always top and bottom Z-clamps. The difference between the first and the second lies in the length of the hook - 4 and 2.5 cm, respectively.

The main course of work comes down to correctly marking the installation locations of fasteners. This is done in the following way:

  • First of all, the lower parts are attached. It is worth paying attention to the fact that middle part The fasteners on which the mesh will press should extend downwards from the edge of the frame by 1.5 centimeters. All parts are screwed with self-tapping screws.
  • Next you need to attach the top z-clamps. Their location is determined very simply: from the lower fastenings, a distance equal to the height of the assembled mosquito net, plus one centimeter, is set aside. All that remains is to fasten it with self-tapping screws.

The fixed z-fastenings form a kind of groove into which the mosquito net must be inserted. This shouldn't cause any difficulties. You just need to take the entire net outside the window, insert it at one end into the upper grooves, lean it against the frame, and lower it.

Installing internal z-mounts

This method is similar to the previous one, only the mounting elements must be mounted not on the frame, but on the mesh itself. The main thing is to do it well. As a rule, the window manufacturer itself takes care of mosquito protection, but some either forget about this or deliberately do not include mosquitoes in their products. Then there is no other choice but to collect on your own. The process is similar:

  • screw the lower mounting parts at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the mesh;
  • fasten the upper fasteners so that the distance between them and the lower fastenings is equal to the length of the window opening, minus one centimeter.

Inserting a mosquito into the opening is done using the same method as in the previous case. If desired, you can easily take it back out.

Thus, attaching a mosquito net to a plastic window is not too difficult if you know the basic rules and techniques. A network installed using one of the above methods will serve its owners for a long time and faithfully, protecting them from insects and allergy pathogens of plant origin.

The design of a mosquito net usually includes:

  • frame profile;
  • mullion profile;
  • special connecting corners;
  • fastening cord;
  • corner profile;
  • 4 plastic or metal holders (z-mounts).

By attaching a mosquito net to a balcony door, window in a room or on a balcony, you can completely forget about annoying insects. This will help you avoid using fumigators and other harmful chemicals to control insects. In addition, the device protects against dirt, dust, and the penetration of allergens into the house - plant particles, poplar fluff. It also ensures the safety of pets when the window is open.

Among the main advantages of this design:

  1. Ease of use. How to remove a mosquito net from a window? - you won’t have such a question, since the nets are easy to install and just as easy to remove if necessary - for washing, for example.
  2. You can wash the mesh with regular soap and a sponge.
  3. Aesthetics and attractive appearance - the installed mesh will not spoil even the elaborate design of the room.
  4. The mesh has tiny holes that can protect not only from insects, but also from raindrops. At the same time, the material does not block the view from the window in any way or impede the access of fresh air.
  5. The design is durable because it includes metal (aluminum) frame elements and fiberglass.
  6. The material is incredibly resistant to stretching, tearing, bending tension, and in addition, does not fade in the sun.
  7. Due to its small thickness, the mesh is compact, which means it can be stored anywhere.

Types of mosquito nets

When deciding how to install a mosquito net on plastic windows, it is worth determining what type of structure you will use. The main varieties here are:

  1. Framework It is considered the simplest and most affordable in terms of cost. It can be removable and extendable. This type is ideal when there is no need to constantly open the mesh. If the mesh is made large, then an additional reinforcing bar is installed in the middle.

  2. One of the varieties of frame mesh is considered to be plunger mesh - it is not attached to special corners, but is mounted directly into the window opening.

  3. Velcro design or tape is also elementary. It is mounted on the inside of the window sash and can be easily removed if necessary.

  4. The mosquito net can be attached to the balcony door like a standard door. It is hinged and opens inward or outward - just like a regular door. In the closed position, the mesh is held by special magnets, and a handle is provided for convenient opening.

  5. Roll considered one of the newest inventions. It includes a guide profile, a mesh roll and a special crossbar with handles. The principle of using the product is reminiscent of roller shutters - in open state the mesh is hidden in a box above the door. This perfect solution for large window openings and glazed balconies.
  6. Pleated similar to roll design, but moves horizontally, gathering into an accordion. This mesh can decorate the interior with its original appearance. Designers often decorate pleated fabrics with patterns and other decorative elements and experiment with colors.

More information You will find about different types of mosquito nets for windows in our article. You will also learn about proper care for such designs.

We talked about the features of nets for balcony doors on how to make a net for a door with your own hands.

And about that, read here. In the warm season, this thing can be very useful, especially if your windows are on the sunny side.

Features of fastening mosquito nets

Attaching a mosquito net to plastic windows or doors can be done in 4 basic types fasteners:

  1. The plunger mount is considered the most expensive, but also the most reliable and resistant to wind. The plunger is a special metal part with length adjustment. It uses springs. The mesh with this fastening is easy to remove and put on. By the way, the plunger is suitable for windows of any type.
  2. The most unreliable fastening is considered to be a “flag” fastening - fastening using small plastic hooks. However, it may break due to a strong gust of wind.
  3. Metal corners (z-shaped fasteners) also make the fastening reliable. However, such corners must be tightly fitted to the frame, and also additionally secured to it from inside the room.
  4. Plastic corners are also considered a popular type of fastening. They are located with outside without changing the window design. The mesh can be easily removed if necessary. In addition, this design will not interfere with the normal closing of the window.

How to install a mesh on a balcony door

Work on installing a mosquito net on a balcony door should begin with the correct measurements - with the door open outside and definitely close. After this, the method of fastening the structure is determined - it depends on the design features of the door and the location of the mesh.

Then the tools and components necessary for the work are prepared - these are self-tapping screws, a screwdriver, hinges and a clamping mechanism, magnets. Before installing the mosquito net, the attachment points for the hinges are marked, after which the hinges are fixed to the door profile with self-tapping screws. After the loops are inserted into the mosquito net, a clamping mechanism is installed. At the final stage, clamping magnets are installed, which are also secured with self-tapping screws.

Installing a mosquito net on a window

Installing a mosquito net with your own hands on plastic windows begins with assembling the structure.

Tip: Before you start installing and assembling the mesh with your own hands, you need to take the correct measurements.

As a rule, the size of the anti-mosquito structure practically corresponds to the dimensions of the window sash. This needs to be checked - the window sash is opened and measured along the light opening, after which 20-30 mm is added to the height and width.

The plastic frame profile is cut in strict accordance with the window opening. An additional crossbar can also be mounted here - it is designed to increase the rigidity of the structure, which is necessary with a large height-to-width ratio.

At the top and bottom, the frame profile is reinforced with an impost - usually made of aluminum. This guarantees the strength of the entire product.

After the profile is ready for assembly, it is connected with corners. These corners are made of especially durable PVC (1-2 mm thicker than the profile) - therefore, the structure becomes resistant to deformation.

The mesh is pulled over a fastening cord, and then this cord is mounted from the inside into the frame profile, as a result of which the fabric is reliably stretched and completely secured.

After that, metal corner profile elements are mounted on the frame, which are needed to secure the structure in the window.

Lastly, 2 handle holders are attached to the mosquito net, thereby ensuring ease of installation. Then the fully assembled mosquito net is installed on the window.

If you are going to install an anti-mosquito net on a window, and you already have it in assembled form, then keep in mind that the width of the finished product must exceed the dimensions of the window opening by 2 cm, and the height - 3 cm. The mesh is also supplied with special fasteners in the amount of 4 pcs. (Two pairs). Each pair has an upper and a lower element, with the upper one being wider than the lower one.

These fasteners are placed on the frame and screwed - the main thing is not to confuse the sequence. So, first, the lower elements are attached - so that the edge of the installed mesh is shifted 1.5 cm below the window opening. And in order to determine the place of fastening of the upper element, add 1 cm to the height of the mesh and measure this distance from the fastenings below. The mesh is simply inserted into the grooves, being attracted to the frame and falling down.

As a result of simple manipulations, you will receive an effective barrier to insects and reliably protect your home from blood-sucking flies, wasps and moths. In addition, the mesh cells allow you to capture even small particles of dust and large debris - which means even the air in your room will become cleaner.

Installing a mosquito net on a plastic window video

And here you can watch a video that demonstrates the installation of a mosquito net on a PVC window using plastic fasteners.

The long-awaited spring brings with it not only Fresh air, which enters the apartments through wide open windows. Spring is also the time of year when the invasion of all kinds of insects begins (and, unfortunately, continues until the onset of cold weather), trying to take a place next to humans.

Open windows, not closed ventilation ducts- this is the main entrance for mosquitoes, flies, and sometimes bees.

A natural solution arising from a person’s desire to choose for himself those who have the right to be in his apartment was the invention of such a simple but irreplaceable addition to windows as a mosquito net.

Protective mesh for PVC windows and doors

IN wooden windows old-style windows were all open warm period of the year. Apartment owners, in order to prevent insects from entering their homes and leaving poplar fluff on the other side of the window, attached gauze to the windows. It turns out that the mosquito net is a new accessory from the series of “well forgotten old ones”.

The principle of operation ends with what is common between a modern mosquito net and gauze on old windows.

Plastic windows, which have become widespread and universally accepted, are mostly opened by swinging the entire sash open or tilting it to an inclined position. This led to the need to refine the gauze version to meet the requirements of modern conditions.

Adapting to these requirements, it was necessary to make the mesh easily removable, interchangeable, and invisible from either the room or the street.

The frame on which the mesh is stretched has also been made convenient: it can be disassembled and stored in this form.

Over the course of one season, so much dust collects on the mesh that if you don’t wash it off, not only mosquitoes, but even fresh air will have difficulty getting into the room. The collapsible frame is very useful here: after removing the mesh, you can easily wash it, like gauze.

The door to the balcony, which in the summer (like the window) is often open, has always been a separate headache in terms of fighting insects and poplar fluff. But here, too, a competent solution has been found - this is a swing mosquito net.

This swing option is a mosquito net stretched over a frame the size of doorway. For rigidity, the frame is reinforced with one or two cross members. In principle, a swing mosquito net is a prototype of a door, only this door is designed to stop not people, but insects and street dust.

For wide doorways, where it is not possible to install a frame, a protective mesh was invented, rigidly fixed on all sides except where it touches the floor. In the middle of such a mesh there is a cut, which, allowing a person or animal to pass through, closes itself tightly thanks to the magnets located at the edges of the cut.

It would seem that it is impossible to come up with something else that is radically different from standard sample mosquito net stretched over metal carcass and secured with rigid fasteners to the window frame. So they came up with a swing option, so they made a mesh with magnets, and that’s it? No, the inquisitive design thought did not stop there.

Protective nets for windows in the form of roller shutters or blinds have appeared on sale. Such structures do not need to be removed and sent for storage during the winter. It is enough to roll them into a roll, and they can remain in this position until the need to use them again arises.

Unfortunately, not only mosquitoes try to get into the room through windows and doors. Sometimes a mosquito net attached to a door or window opening, becomes an obstacle for a cat or dog living in an apartment. In the fight against these representatives of the animal world, the mosquito net suffers complete defeat.

But smart heads also worked on this issue, creating a mosquito net with a protective polyvinyl chloride coating applied to it. Such a net, due to its purpose, received the appropriate name - “Anti-cat”.

Instructions for assembling the mosquito net in the video:

Varieties

Mosquito nets are not just window nets that protect against blood-sucking insects.

According to their functional abilities, they can be divided into several types: standard, most often used frame mesh, stretched over aluminum frame:

  • mesh, which is a roll, unwinding along guides fixed to the window frame;
  • swing, having hinges and opening like regular doors. Can be mounted either on a door or window frame or in a window or doorway;
  • magnetic mesh. Installed in doorways and does not impede the passage of humans and animals;
  • mesh folding like an accordion into a special case– “pleated”;
  • mesh with a special anti-vandal coating applied to it;
  • mesh that protects against fine dust entering the room. Recommended for installation in rooms where people suffering from seasonal allergies for the flowering of various plants.

If we briefly define the main types of mosquito nets, the list will look like this:

  • frame;
  • roll;
  • pleated.

Methods and means of fastening

Since there are different kinds mosquito nets, it is natural that they came up with different ways fastening to the supporting base.

These methods might look like this:

  • an option in which the size of the mesh frame coincides with the size of the sash. This frame is mounted on plunger pins;
  • if the frame is larger than the opening in the frame, in which the sash is located, it can be secured from the outside of the frame to special lugs. The ears themselves are first screwed to the frame using screws;
  • the second option for attaching a frame larger than the sash– on hooks that are attached to the frame itself and, when installed, cling to the frame;
  • horizontal guides fixed to the window frame, along which one or two mosquito net frames can move, freeing window hole;
  • Rolled mosquito nets are installed on the top of the frame and unfold, moving along vertical guides fixed to it;
  • sliding mesh with magnets can be fixed to the frame using tape;
  • frames can have curtains and be mounted on the frame, opening free access to the premises;
  • pleated mosquito systems with a complex fastening, the installation of which can only be entrusted to a specialist.

All these fastening methods can be systematized according to the main defining characteristics:

  • fastenings on plunger pins;
  • on hooks;
  • on the ears;
  • on tape;
  • roll system with fixed vertical guides;
  • frame system with horizontal guides;
  • pleated system.

Mosquito nets with additional functions (for example, “Anti-cat”) are usually used in a standard frame version and necessarily have several additional fasteners. This is done so that the animal, which can use the net as a support, does not fall out into the street with it.

Almost all types of mosquito nets installed on plastic windows are suitable for use on aluminum and wooden windows.

With the obvious variety of types of meshes and options for their fastening, it becomes difficult to determine which mesh is best to install in a given case.

To answer this question, it is necessary to understand what functions a barrier in the form of a mosquito net should perform.

If you just need to prevent insects from getting into the room, then the standard frame option is the cheapest way out.

In cases where you need to close sliding balcony frames, it would be appropriate to use the frame option in which two mosquito nets move along horizontal guides, changing places with each other like the doors of a sliding wardrobe.

If there is a danger that the mesh could be damaged by a pet, then the option with a regular mesh should be replaced with a high-strength mesh.

How to handle it correctly

It would seem that the main purpose of mosquito nets is protection from annoying midges, but this is only one of the functions performed by this type of protective device.

The mosquito net, among other things, can even serve as a regulator air flow entering the room through open door and window openings. If there are nets on all the windows in the apartment, then during gusts of wind they will stop the speed of air movement, protecting the apartment residents from the danger of catching a cold.

In addition, the layer of dust that appears out of nowhere on the furniture will practically cease to appear if nets are installed on the windows, designed to prevent the appearance of midges and mosquitoes, but also having an additional anti-dust function.

For allergy sufferers, this type of mosquito net will not only help make their apartment cleaner by placing a reliable barrier in the way of debris and dust, but most importantly, it will help maintain health by leaving the very cause of allergic reactions outside the window.

The only condition for the Anti-Dust mosquito net to fully fulfill its main purpose is to stop the penetration of fine pollen flowering plants, is periodic maintenance of its surface.

To do this, you need to wash the mesh itself. soap solution and only after complete drying, install it in its place. If you install the mesh without allowing it to dry, then dust will immediately stick to it, clogging all the cells, and the cleaning process will have to be repeated again.

There is no specific time after which a mosquito net with an anti-dust function must be removed. It all depends on how quickly this mesh loses its ability to freely pass air. In cases where the room in which nets of this type are installed are located on the lower floors of buildings, and trees grow nearby or there is a busy highway, they have to be washed quite often.

How to install correctly

The simplest and most accessible way for the average user to install a mosquito net is to attach it using hooks. The hooks themselves ready-made version are already attached to the mesh frame, and the entire installation process consists only of positioning the frame in the place where it is supposed to be and turning the hooks to a position perpendicular to the frame.

No tools or special devices it is not used.

The installation of all other fastening methods, or more precisely, the fixation of their elements, is best left to professional installers.

A “pleated” system in which a mosquito net unfolds into working condition, without using special tools and skills cannot be done.

Attaching the lugs to the frame from the outside is also not easy. After all, to do this, you need to accurately calculate the amount of tolerance required for the free exit of the frame between the upper and lower fasteners.

And the very process of tightening the screws that press the ears to the frame will have to be done while leaning halfway out of the window opening.

Similar difficulties will have to be encountered when installing horizontal guides for sliding frames.

Even to install a mosquito net with plunger pins, you need the correct calculation to mark the exact location of their installation and a tool that can be used to drill grooves for fixing the pins.

How to remove without problems?

To ensure that removing and installing the mesh does not become a problem, you need to choose the most convenient methods for attaching it. Such as, for example, fastening with hooks or on plunger pins.

Mosquito net frame, which is attached to the frame balcony door on the curtains, can also be removed using a simple action. To do this, just lift the side of the frame where the hinges are located, and they will easily come out of their fastenings to the frame.

Since the mesh used on doorways has to be constantly closed and opened, special handles are attached to it for convenience. For a tight fit, seals are installed on the frame into which the frame itself is fixed.

On frame-type nets mounted on ears, hooks or pins, plastic holders are inserted into the frame from the inside to allow you to hold the net when installing it in its place.

To remove the mesh, which is standardly attached to the outside of the frame, you need to lift it so that the lower horizontal bar of the frame comes out of the lower lugs, then the bottom of the frame should be brought out and, lowering, the frame should be pulled out of the upper lugs. The released mesh can be returned to the room.

To return the net attached to the hooks to the room, you need to rotate the hooks along their axis to a position along the frame, not forgetting to hold it by the plastic holders.

The mesh on the plunger pins can be quickly removed by simply pulling the pin heads out of their sockets. Once again, you must remember to hold the vacated net so as not to run outside after it.

Mosquito nets, which move along horizontal guides, despite the apparent complexity, are released from the guides as simply as with the option of mounting on ears. In exactly the same way, you need to lift the frame and remove its bottom from the lower fastening - this allows you to create a gap that is located between the frame and the upper guide.

The most difficult to dismantle are mosquito nets. roll type and mosquito pleated system. Their periodic maintenance must be done without removing them from the mounts.

How to fix without errors?

If you decide to independently install a mosquito net on the “ear” mounts, then first you need to take the necessary safety measures when working at height, since you need to work halfway out of the window. After marking for installation of fasteners, you need to select screws of such length that they are screwed only into the plastic and do not rest against the metal frame inside the profile. The length of optimal screws should be no more than 20mm.

There are guides for moving the frame, which are attached using double-sided tape. In this case, you need to make the markings especially carefully. If a mistake is made, it will be impossible to secure the incorrectly installed and once dismantled guides a second time.

In case, after all, plastic profile holes were drilled by mistake and need to be repaired. For this purpose, a special liquid plastic. But if this material is not available, then you can seal the holes with ordinary white silicone.

Frame mounting options

The first option is the simplest and safest, is provided to those owners of premises whose windows are at a height of free access from the outside. To implement this option, you do not need to risk leaning out of the window. It is enough to use a stepladder, attach the mesh to the frame, mark its contours and screw either the ears or guides relative to them.

The second option is that you don’t have to immediately screw on the lug mounts, and, having pasted double-sided tape, use it to install them in the marked place and check the accuracy of the marking by installing the frame. These actions will protect the profile from the appearance of holes left on it due to erroneously applied marks.

The most reliable option is to involve specialists in installing mosquito nets. Such a service is provided in conjunction with window installation, provided that the installation of a mosquito net is included in the list of activities specified in the contract.

If the need for a mosquito net arose after a window or door was installed, then, as a rule, such a service is provided by net manufacturing companies, providing their specialists for installation.

Can I install it myself?

Problems that arise when open doors and windows, force many people to take measures to eliminate them.

The easiest way out is to tightly close the opening that causes inconvenience. But instead of some problems, others come, sometimes more serious than dust and mosquitoes.

Mold and mildew may appear on the walls of the room: they are always in a hurry to grow where there is no good ventilation. Micro-ventilation, available when installing almost all plastic windows, cannot eliminate this nuisance.

There are only two options for dealing with poor room ventilation:

  • box in window profile special air valve ensuring sufficient air exchange in the room;
  • installing a mosquito net on an open door or window opening, which does not obstruct air movement and eliminates problems open window or doors.

Lightweight and durable mosquito net does not disturb general view the window or door on which it is attached, because the color of its frame can be matched to the color of the profile. So that the mesh itself does not catch the eye, it is mainly produced in light gray color, although options are possible at the request of the customer.

If desired, you can easily remove the mesh itself from the frame. To do this, you need to pull out the rubber sealing cord, which is inserted into the groove located on the inside of the frame frame. This cord secures the edges of the mesh, preventing it from slipping out of the groove.

Having taken out the mesh, you can disassemble the frame itself by forcefully pulling the strips at the joints.

Due to the fact that the frame is collapsible, there is no need to buy a new product if the canvas itself is damaged. You can buy a new piece of canvas and insert it into the old frame.

If it was decided to do without the help of measurers and installers, then before starting measurements, you need to carefully consider how the plastic window is located relative to the external slopes.

Sometimes the upper profile of a window, deeply recessed into the slope, does not allow the “ear” fasteners to be placed on it. There is simply no room for this.

The same trouble can be expected if it was decided to install a roll-up mosquito net on the side profile, which is almost completely hidden under the side slopes.

If the profile moves away from the slopes to a distance that allows any type of fastening to fit, then you can proceed to the next stage - measuring the frame of the future mosquito net.

For a frame that will be attached using “ears”, you need to measure the width and height of the opening in which the sash is located, and add three centimeters to these dimensions - this will be right size mosquito net frames. The frame must include fasteners and screws for fixing them. If there are no screws, then you need to find ones that meet two requirements: they must be made of stainless material, and their length must be no more than 20mm.

The set of “ear” fastenings consists of four pieces: two of them differ from the other two in length. Those fasteners with a smaller shelf are placed at the bottom of the frame, and those that are longer hold the top of the frame. This was done so that the gap in the upper “ears” would allow the bottom of the frame to be raised and moved outward.

The size of this gap must be measured very precisely - it is responsible for how securely the mosquito net holds in its fastenings. Also, a correctly calculated gap will make it possible to easily install and remove the mesh.

To install a mosquito net yourself, it is best to use the option with fastening hooks. All steps to install the hooks can be done indoors, because the hooks are attached to the mosquito net frame itself. The finished mesh will only need to be carefully installed in the window opening by activating the hooks and rotating them around its axis.

Tips for using a mosquito net on PVC windows in the video:

Is there any point in installing it?

It cannot be said that a mosquito net is the most necessary invention for a person, and one cannot do without it. It is quite possible to hang gauze on the window, and on the doorway plastic tapes, repelling all living creatures. It's probably cheaper than buying and installing a mosquito net. But the whole question is whether such methods will be as effective and convenient as the mosquito net used for the same purposes, or, correctly speaking, the mosquito net.

It is also necessary to remember that in addition to its main function (preventing winged insects from entering the room), there are additional functions that such a mesh can successfully cope with. Among them: the ability of fine-mesh fabric to retain small dust formations, contain drafts, and stop pets from flying through an open window.

Any of these functions in itself is worthy of installing a protective mosquito net on a window or door.

Unlike ancient methods such as gauze or tape on the window, the mesh fabric is practically invisible in the open window opening. Plus, the mesh is a reusable, easy-to-use product that has applications to suit different needs.

The mesh can be in the form of a roll, in the form of an accordion, simply stretched over a frame, or with magnets for fixing behind a passing person (mesh on a doorway). Those who wish can always choose the option that suits everyone.

And at the same time it is required minimal care– when it gets dirty, you need to wash it with soapy water, and this is a simple maintenance procedure.

Step-by-step installation

The best option for installing a mosquito net would be to install it together with a plastic window. Placing an order separately and visiting a specialist will cost more than complex services. In addition, sellers of plastic windows often have promotions where you can get a mosquito net as a gift.

But if you have to order the production and installation of a mesh after the plastic window has taken its place, this is also not a big problem. In this case, there will be advantages. The distances from the glass to the side and top slope will indicate what type of mosquito net (frame, roll) and what type of fastening is best suited for a particular option.

In order to order a mosquito net and install it yourself, you need to consistently take the following steps:

  • clear the window sill and window opening from foreign objects;
  • open the window sash and determine which part of the top and side slopes is not covered by the outer slope. If there is a free distance of 3 cm on them, then you can start taking measurements;
  • Using a previously prepared tape measure, you should accurately measure the distance of the opening in the frame in which the sash is located;
  • It is best to give the resulting dimensions to mosquito net manufacturers for processing. They will calculate exactly how to change the data so that ready product Fits perfectly into the window opening. This option is especially good when the customer does not know exactly which type of fasteners is best to choose. Each fastening option has its own tolerances to the main size. But if you decide to carry out the calculations yourself,
  • then for the method of fastening using “ears” you need to add three centimeters to the obtained dimensions of the height and width of the opening;
  • In order to fix the finished product on the window frame, you first need to make marks corresponding to the installation locations of the fasteners. The location of the two lower fasteners should be such that the lower edge of the mosquito net frame installed in them is one and a half centimeters below the sash opening;
  • From the shelf of the lower fastening you need to measure the distance to the shelf of the upper fastening. This distance should be one centimeter greater than the height of the grid frame;
  • on the received marks you need to install fastenings with prerequisite, that the fasteners, in which the shelf pressing the frame is shorter in length, are installed at the bottom of the frame. To fix the fasteners, you need to use stainless metal screws.
  • The installation of the mesh itself is not particularly difficult. To do this, you need to securely fix the mesh with plastic holders, first insert it into the upper mount, lift it all the way, and, pressing it against the frame, lower it into the grip of the lower mount. If the tolerance between the fasteners has been calculated accurately, then the mesh frame will take its intended place without any problems.

About the types of mosquito nets in the video:

Mosquito net and its installation on the window

To determine which of the existing technical means is best suited for stopping flying insects trying to enter the house through the window, you need to understand the range of products offered.

For this purpose, you can use fumigators, special lighting devices that destroy insects, adhesive tapes and much more. However, each of these means of combating annoying animals has its own disadvantages: fumigators can have a negative effect on aquarium fish, lighting devices consume electricity, and sticky fly tapes hung throughout the house are unlikely to bring aesthetic pleasure to anyone.

But there is a competent solution to this pressing issue every spring - this is the installation of a barrier in the form of a mosquito net in the path of insects.

Sometimes mosquito nets installed on residential windows can be seen even in winter. This does not mean that apartment owners forgot to put the nets away for storage. Some people need nets on windows at any time of the year, because in addition to protection from insects, they also have other functions. Such nets can not only keep you out of the room, but also keep you out of it (for example, a cat or hamster walking along the windowsill while the owner is ventilating the room).

If the mesh fabric is covered with a special protective composition made of polyvinyl chloride, then you can forget it for more than one year, leaving it in the window frame.

After all, it practically does not interfere with looking outside. A mosquito net only becomes noticeable if it is not maintained and allowed to become covered with a layer of dust. But this problem can be easily eliminated with soap and water.

If there is no need to use an anti-allergenic version of the mesh fabric with a fine mesh size of 1 mm 2, then you can use a fabric with holes of 3 mm 2. This will significantly increase the time between those moments when you need to take action to care for the mosquito net.

Mosquito nets can differ from each other not only in the mesh of the fabric, but also in the shape of the cells. It is believed that the fabric, in which the cells are rectangular in shape, transmits light and air worse, but is more tensile and cheaper in cost. Cloth with hexagonal cells is recommended for use in places where midges and small midges are common. This is explained by the fact that a hexagonal cell transmits light and air twice as much as a rectangular cell of the same size.

Installing a mosquito net on a frame is difficult only for the first time, since you need to perform several steps to accurately mark and then attach accessories that secure the net frame in accordance with the chosen type of fastening. For this reason, it is better to seek help from specialists who, after installing the mesh, will explain to the owner all the conditions for its further operation.

You don’t have to ask for outside help if you use the simplest installation method; it does not require measurements or special tools.

The mosquito net, not stretched over a metal frame, gave the name to a new method of installing mosquito nets - frameless. On window frame one side of the Velcro is glued and connected to the other part glued along the perimeter of the canvas. This is the whole process, the only difficulty of which is that the tape on the window matches the tape on the canvas.

For entrance doors

The requirements for door mosquito nets are very different from those for window nets. The door screen should allow people and animals to pass through without hindrance, while at the same time blocking the path of flying insects.

Since the requirements for these nets are different, the approach to attaching them to the doorway is also somewhat different.

For this purpose, you can use nets equipped with magnets - they do not impede the passage of people and are an excellent barrier for insects.

Such mosquito nets are attached to the door frame with velcro on the sides and top. The bottom of the mesh and the passage area have bipolar magnets, with the help of which the edges of the mesh, having let a person through, instantly slam behind him.

There are other ways to install mosquito nets on doorways.

One of them is called “pleated”. This method consists of folding the mosquito cloth into an accordion and fixing it in a special box. This method is used for large openings that cannot be closed using other approaches to constructing a mosquito net.

A more common way of closing doors with a mesh is to install a frame with a stretched mosquito net on the door frame, which is attached to the frame using special curtains.

The disadvantage of this option is its short service life, since the aluminum frame can be easily damaged.

Both the pleated and swing version of the mosquito net have two common serious disadvantages compared to the magnetic net. While a person enters, he needs to spend a few seconds to open and close the doors, and sometimes this time is enough for those whom the mesh is supposed to stop to enter the room with him.

DIY mosquito net

There is an emergency solution to the problem of annoying insects getting into the room if suddenly an unforeseen situation occurs and the frame with a mosquito net removed from the window has received mechanical damage and cannot be put back in its place.

To do this, you need to remove the canvas from the frame by pulling the rubber cord that secures the edges of the canvas. Then remove from the window frame sealing gum. You need to insert the edges of the fabric into the vacated groove and secure them with a clothesline. There is no doubt that the canvas will fit in size, because the mesh frame is only slightly larger than the sash opening.

In the case when there is a finished mesh in working condition, but the fasteners that should hold it are not yet secured, the following actions must be taken:

  • fit the frame to the opening that it should cover. If it is hidden behind the frame by 1.5 cm on each side and does not rest against the external slope, then its size corresponds to the given window opening;
  • mark the place for the lower fastenings, which have a short pressure shelf, so that there is enough space to lift the frame up by 1 cm without it resting on the slope;
  • mark the space for the upper fasteners so that they are 1 cm higher than the frame;
  • After the marking process, you need to, observing safety precautions, install the fasteners in the places intended for them.

After this, all that remains is to place the mesh in the mounts, holding it by the special holders installed on the sides.

The task of installing the mesh is greatly simplified if you need to secure the mesh with Z-hooks. First you need to find the main hook, which should be the first to cling to the frame. The main one is the longest and should be on the short side of the frame. This hook must be placed behind the upper inner protrusion of the window frame, while the frame of the mosquito net must be on the outer side of this protrusion.

Next, holding the frame securely, you need to turn the lower hook by the inner protrusion of the window frame and lower the frame down. After the frame is in place, you can fix it by turning the side hooks.

Installing the mesh on the balcony frame

The mosquito net can be installed on the outside of the window - these are fastening methods using “ears” and “hooks”, as well as the “pleated” system and roll-type nets.

It is allowed to install the mesh in the frame - fastening on plunger pins.

The only way to attach a frame-mounted mosquito net indoors is in openings with sliding frames. This is due to the fact that this type of frame does not have protruding handles that can damage the mesh fabric.

As a rule, two frames are installed on the balcony, which can move, changing places with each other. To move them, two guides with two grooves in each are attached to the inside of the frame. Inside these grooves, mosquito nets, moving along the entire length of the balcony, can occupy any place.

Due to the fact that the installation of the guides is accessible from the balcony, installing this type of mosquito net mounting is not considered too difficult. It is quite possible to do it yourself, just by correctly marking the places where the guides should be attached.

Door mosquito nets

The main difference between the two main types of mesh covering doorways is where the canvas is located - with or without a frame.

A mosquito net is considered frame if it is a component of a pleated system or is stretched over a frame that is attached with curtains to the door frame.

Representatives of frameless mosquito protection are nets in which the edges of the cut after the passage of a person are connected to each other using magnets or Velcro.

Frameless screens are easy to install and convenient to use, which cannot be said about framed door mosquito protection models.

To install an additional mosquito net door, you need to take steps similar to installing a door leaf in a door frame.

What type of fastening is most optimal?

All existing methods of using mosquito nets meet main goal– block access to the premises for small insects. In order for this function to be fulfilled 100%, all types of mosquito barriers have been developed, the essence of which was described in detail above.

The most popular frame mosquito nets are those that are attached using hooks and Z-shaped fasteners (“ears”). They are easy to install and also easy to dismantle. Affordable price also plays a big role.

A roll-type mosquito net will cost more, and its installation will not be possible without the help of a specialist.

Purchasing and installing a pleated system is the most expensive pleasure among mosquito repellent devices, but at the same time, the most convenient.

The cheapest mosquito barrier is a frameless canvas with Velcro. But after several removals from the window to clean the dust, the Velcro stops sticking, and the question of how to protect the room from mosquitoes becomes relevant again.

We must not forget that mosquito nets can also have additional functions - to help allergy sufferers survive the flowering season of plants, and can also stop small domestic animals from traveling outside the window.

You can only determine which type of mosquito net is better than others by carefully reading the available materials on this topic, or by carefully reading this article, which contains all the data for analysis.

If a situation has arisen that you have purchased a ready-made mosquito net, but do not know how to install it, these instructions will help you cope with this problem.

Self-installation on plastic windows

In the case when you already have an anti-mosquito net along with fastenings (z-shaped), then you should complete the following list of tasks.

Installation sequence using metal fasteners:

As can be seen from the instructions above, it is not such a difficult matter. Note, however, that this instruction is effective for a certain type of structure.

Fastening with plastic corners

The next most popular option for attaching mosquito nets to windows or balconies is using plastic corners. This method of fastening cannot be considered optimal, however, no matter what, it will look great on, because it is quite common in the list of services of various companies.

This method differs from fastening with metal fasteners in that the fastener itself is installed on the window frame, and not on the mesh frame.

So, let's move on to the installation instructions:

Installing a mosquito net on the door

They are divided into two categories: they can be either freely hanging or in a special
frame housing. Self-installation Such structures are quite troublesome. This is due to the fact that they are supplied in a complete installation kit intended for specialists.

If we consider door screens with a frame, they are fastened with hinges in the likeness of ordinary doors. When we're talking about about freely hanging types, then they are fixed around the entire perimeter and connected using a magnetic fastener in the center.

Installation of a sliding version

The fundamental differences in installation on an aluminum window differ little from those options that were discussed above. Like a wardrobe door, the sash is installed like this:

  • The mesh (sash) is placed directly behind the upper guide.
  • In the maximum upper position, the lower end is inserted behind the lower guide.
  • After that they lower it.

Now you know how mosquito nets are attached to plastic windows.

The procedure for installing a mosquito net is determined by its design. The complexity of installation depends on the location, method of fastening and features of the window or door.

Tools used:
  • Screwdriver or drill;
  • Thin drills;
  • Riveting tool;
  • Screwdrivers;
  • Ruler, tape measure.

The mesh usually includes fastening elements, which are discussed when ordering and checked before purchasing the product.

Fastening to internal metal brackets – simple and safe way fixing the removable frame mesh on. The hooks are mounted on long strips using aluminum rivets. Installing the mesh in the opening is carried out as follows:
  1. Using the side handles to hold the product, the upper brackets are inserted behind the window trim.
  2. The mesh rises all the way up, the lower hooks hook onto the protrusion of the frame.
  3. The mosquito net is placed all the way down and aligned in the window opening.

Outdoor option securing the anti-mosquito cloth – reliable way, which does not damage the rubber seals, but is dangerous because you have to lean out to screw the corners.

Installation procedure:

  1. The lower brackets are secured with self-tapping screws, placing them at a distance of 20 mm from the edge of the opening.
  2. The height of the mesh is measured, 10–15 mm is added, and the mounting points for the upper brackets are marked.
  3. The corners are screwed at an equidistant distance from each other and from the boundaries of the window opening.
  4. The mosquito net is installed: by sliding it all the way into the upper fastener and sliding it into the lower corners, the product is lowered into place.
Installation using plungers is used if the mosquito net cannot be mounted on standard brackets. For example, when closely spaced protective grilles are in the way or there is not enough space on the frame to accommodate z-brackets. Plunger mosquito nets are not placed overlapping, but inside the window opening. Therefore, their dimensions must exactly correspond to the perimeter of the frame.

Installation on plungers:

  1. Places for the pins are prepared in the mesh frame: first, four holes are drilled with a diameter similar to the threaded part of the plunger, then in the outer walls of the profile the holes are expanded to the size of the retractable tip.
  2. Pins with attached springs are inserted into the frame and tightened with tips.
  3. The mesh is tried on in the opening, marks are placed opposite the exits of the plungers.
  4. Holes are drilled into which mating pin sleeves are installed.
  5. The brush seal is glued to the mesh profile.
  6. One side of the product is placed with plungers into the response holes.
  7. By squeezing the two tips from the opposite side, the mesh is inserted into the opening and fixed.
Anti-mosquito structures swing type are installed on hinge joints, taking into account certain features:
  • The doorway should be blocked by 10 mm on each side.
  • The minimum gap between the frame and the upper slope is 21 mm.
  • Provide sufficient space around the self-closing mechanism for adjustment.
  • The magnetic clamp is attached to the opening, and the counter plate is attached to the frame profile.
  • The number of magnetic latches is selected based on the height of the door.
Roller mosquito nets can be mounted on the window frame or in the opening. The assembly of the structure is carried out according to the manufacturers' instructions. The process is divided into stages:
  1. Trimming the body and shaft with mesh to the required dimensions.
  2. Preparation of guides and fixing strips.
  3. Assembly of housing and gearbox parts.
  4. Marking and making mounting holes.
  5. Fastening the system to the window frame.
  6. Checking operation and adjustment.

It will be a simple matter to install a regular frame or. More complex, but also easy to do yourself, will be the installation of a roller shutter mosquito system.
