A good ottoman cannot be made without a good base made from a sheet of chipboard. Optimal size the design is within the range of 400x400x500 mm.
You can make a wooden ottoman using a simplified technology, making a frame in the form mailbox from timber and screw it on by cutting the sides, but since the ottoman is being made for yourself, you can try.

Work with pleasure

You should not start work in a bad mood: something will fall on your foot or you will hit the wrong nail with a hammer.

5 squares of 400x400 mm are marked and cut from a sheet of chipboard to make the walls of the structure and the bottom.

Attention: The bottom of the ottoman should not be made of plywood; small children like to hide in secluded corners and can break thin plywood and get injured.

The cover can be any geometric shape: square, round, oval. Beginners can skip experimenting and stick with a square lid. It will have dimensions slightly larger than the main box 430x430 mm, in order to protect it from falling inside.
The height of the finished product is made up of its constituent elements - the height of the structure is 400 mm, plus the rollers are 50 mm, the bottom and tire are 32 mm thick, the upholstery is 50 mm thick, for a total of 532 mm.
From the prepared elements, the formation of the structure begins.
The sides of the ottoman are fastened with metal corners. The beams used to glue all the internal corners will help increase rigidity and reliability.
From the front side of the ottoman, the cutouts themselves are screwed into the beams, the heads of which should be recessed into the wood so that later there are no problems with torn upholstery.
Coated with wood glue Bottom part boxes around the perimeter, capturing the ends of the beams.
The bottom of the ottoman is attached, and the cuts themselves are again screwed into the ends of the beams. Assembled structure should dry well.
The base of the ottoman has been made, but there are still no wheels and a lid on which you can sit in the future.
The lid is secured with 4 bars screwed from the inside. The work is carried out after you are sure that the lid closes smoothly and the side reinforcement bars do not interfere with the closing of the lid.
The finished structure is turned over, and the wheels are attached using the cuts themselves.

Attention: They are fixed through the bottom to the ends of the beams, for which small holes are drilled in the bottom.

Before continuing work, you need to make sure that the resulting structure is sufficiently stable, holds the person sitting on it well, and there are no flaws that interfere further work, otherwise there is no point in starting upholstery.

The ottoman gets dressed

A do-it-yourself ottoman made of wood, chipboard, or generally soft needs clothing on top. This function is performed with honor by high-quality upholstery fabric, neatly attached to the frame of the structure.

First, the cover of the ottoman is made, for which a soft lining is cut out from foam rubber, padding polyester, and batting. The size of the pad should correspond to the parameters of the seat so that it is neatly glued into place without drooping.
From the fabric intended for upholstery, a blank is cut out several times large sizes than the lid. This is done so that the edges can be folded under the lid and secured from the inside with a stapler or furniture nails.
The instructions instruct you to further design the sides of the ottoman.
A part is cut out from upholstery fabric 400 mm x 4 = 1600 mm with a margin for connection. Also in height, the material must have an allowance at the top and bottom.

Attention: The fabric must be straightened, stretched, tucked inward, and the edges must be secured with furniture nails or a stapler.

The seat is decorated, the niche is upholstered, all edges are neatly closed and you can present ready product for control by discerning family members.
A do-it-yourself plywood ottoman is made according to the same pattern if you choose this simple design option.
The work becomes a little more complicated when an opening drawer is provided on the ottoman, then the stop bars are replaced with door hinges.

Getting acquainted with the design of this simple piece of furniture, one detail catches your eye: despite the difference in shapes of ottomans and their types, the base is a rigid frame, there is a seat and legs. They are decorated in different ways, but quilted leather or leatherette gives the products an elite, luxurious look and you cannot immediately determine that the price of the product is within reasonable limits.

Although, it should be noted that a neat ottoman, covered with a different material, can bring comfort and convenience to the room and looks no less elegant than a leather one.

A homemade pouf will help diversify a child's room and create an unusual place to relax. The shape and dimensions of the future piece of furniture are selected depending on the age of the children. For work, colorful fabrics with cartoon characters, bright yarn and various decorative elements(ribbons, buttons, toys, appliques).

Most simple option is a round pouf consisting of several parts. It can be made from thick, bright fabric, the edges of which will be decorated with a border of a contrasting color. In addition to fabric and braid, you will need:

compass,
a large sheet of paper or several A4 formats glued together,
printed material (sintepon, foam rubber, spunbond, holofiber or any similar),
sewing machine,
matching threads.

Instead of a pattern for such a pouf, a paper blank in the form of a circle is used. To do this, use a compass to draw a circle of the required diameter on a sheet of paper and cut it along the contour. If a chair is planned larger diameter, than a compass allows, then you can use a design of two pencils connected with a thread with a length equal to the radius of the future pouf. One pencil is placed in the center, and the other draws with the thread taut.

Using a fabric blank, 2 round parts are cut out - the bottom and top part armchairs. You will also need two identical rectangles with a length equal to half the circumference. The width of the rectangles is selected based on the required height of the chair. For the handle you need to cut two more smaller rectangles. Don't forget about allowances.

From large rectangles you need to make a solid piece by sewing them together from the wrong side. Round parts are trimmed around the edge with braid. Small rectangles are sewn together from the inside out, after which they are turned inside out and connected with a hidden seam on the remaining side and are also treated with braid.

After preparing the parts, they are swept together. You can sew a zipper into the side of a long rectangular piece. If it is not necessary, then this side is swept away with a hidden seam after filling the pouf with filler. A handle is sewn onto the side of the chair.

Knitted pouf

Knitted ones look cozy and homey. The difference between the knitted versions and the chairs proposed in the previous master class is that they use not thick fabric, but yarn in combination with thin fabric for the lining. If you do not have knitting skills, then you can make such a pouf from an old sweater. To do this, the sleeves are hidden inside and sewn up. The bottom part is swept away and the neckline is tied. For such a knitted bag, it is better to choose a sweater with a dense structure.

Chairs made from plastic bottles

To make a similar version of the pouf, you will need several bottles of the same size, cardboard, tape, foam rubber and upholstery fabric. The bottles are connected to each other with tape and form the frame of the pouf. The shape of the future piece of furniture can be any. The upper and lower parts are made of cardboard (preferably corrugated), onto which foam rubber is glued. The side parts are also softened with foam rubber. A fabric cover is put on top, which can be sewn by analogy with the first master class.

Making a bean bag chair

Instead of a pouf, it can live in a children's room frameless bean bag chair, resembling a pear in shape. Sewing a bag is not difficult. To do this you need a pattern, bright dense fabric and filler. The pear is formed from six main wedges, sewn together in order of priority, upper and lower parts.

The best filler for a pear-shaped bag is granulated polystyrene. It does not cake and performs well in operation. You can pour granules through the hole left in the case (or zipper) using plastic bottle, in which the top and bottom are cut off.
