How to attach a block house - we cover the house with our own hands. Block house: how to fasten it outside and inside the building Plastic block house lathing step

Famous construction material called a block house is a kind of imitation of “wood” and resembles in its appearance a lining with a curved front surface. It can be used both for cladding the facades of buildings and for finishing the interior spaces of residential premises. In this article we will try to tell you how to attach a block house with your own hands, and also introduce some of the features of installing panels of this type.

Note that the operations for assembling a block house are quite simple and can be easily reproduced even by a beginner. The installation of the panels is noticeably simplified due to their uniformity (the same size and the possibility of tongue-and-groove assembly). However, as you assemble the elements, you may encounter certain nuances.

Let's look at each of them in more detail:

  1. First of all, before starting the installation of the block house, it individual elements must undergo mandatory preliminary “exposure” in the room being finished.
  2. In addition, it is advisable that all mounted panels be treated with an antiseptic before installation.
  3. To fasten the block house panels, a special lathing made of wooden blocks must be used, attached directly to the walls at a certain pitch.
  4. The most important condition for the correct installation of the panels is to install them with the tenon facing up, which eliminates the possibility of moisture accumulating in the joints.
  5. During the installation process, it is necessary to leave technological gaps of about 15 mm between the inlaid cladding of the block house and the walls (as well as at the top and bottom of the structure). In addition, between its individual elements (lamellas) vertically at the joints there should also be a temperature gap of about 1-3 mm.
  6. The orientation of the block house panels in space (vertical or horizontal) is selected based on the specifics of the interior or your personal preferences. As a rule, when covering the facades of buildings, the slats are placed horizontally, thereby simulating appearance log house. When decorating the interior spaces of premises, their vertical arrangement is most often chosen.

Laying the panels during the installation process can begin either from the top or from the bottom of the sheathing. The most well-known methods of fixing planks on a previously prepared base include the following methods:

  • “tenon-to-groove” joining (between each other) followed by fixation on the sheathing with self-tapping screws or nails;
  • fastening only with self-tapping screws;
  • fastening using only nails.

The last two types of fastening are used for block house slats without tenons and grooves.

Sometimes brackets specially designed for these purposes can be used as panel fastening elements. Such fixing elements are best suited for narrow boards of small thickness used in interior decoration.

Selecting the type of fastener and installing panels

The choice of fastening type for Block House panels during their installation (nails or self-tapping screws) is ultimately determined by their thickness. If the thickness does not exceed 20 mm, nails are usually used; For thicker workpieces, it is best to fasten them with self-tapping screws.

When choosing fasteners, preference should be given to products with an anti-corrosion surface (i.e., having an anodized or galvanized coating).

As already noted, the choice of one method or another for attaching the Block House depends on the material you use, as well as on your preferences. The most common of these techniques is the already familiar “tenon in groove” method.

When using it, the junction of the first panel of the Block House is covered by the subsequent prefabricated element and becomes almost invisible to the eye. Each element is fixed to the sheathing either using nails or self-tapping screws. Wherein fastening element pierces the panel directly in the joint area (at a slight angle to the vertical).

In addition, the element can be fixed directly on the curved part of the panel; in this case, the surface is punched in two places at once. One of the screws is screwed in next to the tenon, and the other is screwed in near the groove on the opposite side. This method of fastening the Block House is suitable for fairly thick panels (more than 40 mm thick), in which holes are pre-drilled and subsequently closed with a cork matching the color of the material.

Before attaching the block house, pay attention to a couple more points, taking into account which will significantly simplify all installation operations:

  1. If you choose a clamp to secure the panels, their installation should begin from the top of the sheathing.
  2. To make it easier to “drive” the tenon of one panel into the groove of another, it is recommended to use a small rubber hammer.

Video

This video will briefly talk about the installation of a block house.

Block House can be used for both external and internal decoration. You can learn how to attach panels indoors and make a beautiful joining angle in the following video:

Below is a video about using Block House to decorate a balcony.

The modern construction industry offers a lot of options exterior finishing Houses. This different kinds siding, tiles, artificial stone, sandwich panels and so on. Recently, finishing with such material as block house has become increasingly popular. It has many advantages.

In this article, the site will tell you what kind of material this is and how to properly attach a block house.

Types of block house

Block house is a view facing material, which imitates a log frame of a tree. He can be:

  • wooden;
  • vinyl;
  • metal.

Wooden – environmentally friendly and natural material. The disadvantage is the fact that it is susceptible to rotting and fungal attack. However, this problem can be solved by processing with special means.

Vinyl is durable. It looks aesthetically pleasing, is easy to care for, and is practically indistinguishable from wood.

Metal is made of galvanized steel, which is coated polymer composition. Its advantage is its relatively low cost.

Installation procedure

In order for the cladding of the house to last as long as possible, you first need to carefully prepare the walls. Here are a few important advice that need to be taken into account during preparatory work:

  • If the walls are wooden, then you need to treat them with an antiseptic solution to protect them from fungus and mold;
  • You should take care of waterproofing. To do this, a special film is fixed to the walls. Special attention pay attention to the seams, because moisture can get through them. It is advisable to glue them with tape;
  • The sheathing is nailed onto this base. She might be from wooden beam or metal profile;
  • Insulation of the building. For this purpose they usually use mineral wool. The wind is mounted on top of it protective film, which will additionally protect the building;
  • Direct paneling of the house.

Before installing the panels, you need to select fasteners for the block house. There are three ways to attach this material:

  • fastening using a clamp;
  • fastening with self-tapping screw;
  • fastening with a galvanized nail.

Let's look at each of these options:

  • The block house clamp is a special metal plate coated with chrome. This makes it resistant to humid environment. This plate must be inserted into the groove, after which it is connected to the sheathing with a self-tapping screw. At correct execution This operation makes the connection almost invisible. This method is best suited for fastening wood sheathing.
  • Fastening with a self-tapping screw is somewhat more complicated. To ensure that the panel tenon into which the self-tapping screw will be screwed does not crack, it must be pre-drilled. And then hit the screw exactly into this hole. This makes this method of fastening difficult, especially for a non-professional.
  • To secure the house block with a nail, it is driven into the panel tenon at an angle of 45 degrees. As mentioned above, the tenon can crack, so you need to drill a hole in it. It is better to “drown” the nail head a little.

The choice of fastening method for the huas block depends on the material from which the casing is made. After you decide on the type of siding, you can think about what to attach the block house to.

We install a wooden block house

You need to start installing such material from the bottom. In this case, the spike is directed upward. This will protect it from moisture. If not only the facade is being finished, but the entire house, then installation must be done on all walls at the same time. After finishing the covering they are attached additional elements– baseboards, corners.

For finishing external walls, it is better to choose wider panels. The choice of wood will depend on preferences and budget. There are both budget house blocks made of pine and more expensive ones made of valuable wood available for sale.

After installing the wooden panels, you need to let the structure stand for a while to finally take the desired shape. Only after this is it worth covering the walls with varnish or stain. If you do this immediately after installation, unpainted stripes may appear on the walls, as the material will shrink over time.

Wall covering protective compounds you will have to repeat it periodically, because wood is a capricious material. If you choose vinyl or metal siding, this procedure can be avoided.

We install vinyl and metal block houses

Galvanized nails or self-tapping screws are used to secure vinyl or metal sheathing. Holes are pre-drilled for fastening. Such material only needs to be fastened perpendicularly, otherwise it will affect the quality of the cladding. During installation, it is necessary to leave a small distance between the screw head and the panel, since this type of house block expands or contracts depending on the ambient temperature.

Despite the apparent simplicity and ease of installation, PaneliGid advises turning to professionals. They will tell you which sheathing material will be best in your case, tell you how the block house is attached, and install it efficiently in the shortest possible time.

In order to carry out external finishing of the facade or arrange wall surfaces interior spaces, block house is often used. Before starting work, it is important to know how to properly attach a block house, as well as some of its features.

This material is a modified lining, and its front side has a cylindrical shape. This cladding has excellent characteristics, but how durable the coating will be will depend on the quality of the work performed.

Tools and materials

To carry out the work you need:

  • dowels;
  • scotch;
  • nails;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • boards;
  • block house;
  • hammer;
  • waterproofing;
  • thermal insulation;
  • stapler

Surface preparation

Installation of canvases on the façade of a building must be done after hydro- and thermal insulation of the surface. The first layer should be a vapor barrier, it should be fixed with tape with an overlap, the width of the overlap should be 100-150 mm.

The next layer will be the sheathing; the installation step of its elements should be slightly less than the width of the insulation. Next, you can attach the heat insulation sheets using dowels.

The heat insulator must be covered with a wind- and moisture-proof film, which can be strengthened using a stapler, gluing the joints with tape, and it can be replaced with a special film.

On top of the previously installed bars, another layer of sheathing should be strengthened, which is intended for mounting the block house. In this case, you should use bars with a cross-section of 5x5 cm. The elements of the second sheathing should be fastened using self-tapping screws to the bars of the first.

In some cases, the installation of a thermal insulation layer is not carried out, then you can limit yourself to wind and moisture protection, on top of which the lathing is attached and the panels are installed. This option is especially relevant when installing indoors.

Main requirements for installation work

The block house is fastened using a tongue-and-groove system on the panels. At the first stage, the material has to be prepared. So, if the installation is supposed to be carried out indoors, then it must undergo adaptation inside the building within 24 hours. This is necessary to balance the moisture in the material.

It is preferable to treat the canvas with an antiseptic before the installation process.

Fastening should be carried out to a pre-installed sheathing, which is made of wooden blocks mounted at a certain distance. The main requirement for the installation process of a block house is that the panels are fastened with the tenons facing up. This is necessary in order to prevent the accumulation of moisture in the grooves during operation. The sheathing should be leveled using a level and plumb line, otherwise the entire work will have to be redone due to misalignment.

In the process of fastening the panels from below and above, it is necessary to leave a technological gap, the width of which should be approximately 50 mm, which is necessary for natural ventilation. Moreover, a gap of 1-3 mm in width must be provided between the boards, which will avoid deformation during seasonal humidity and temperature fluctuations.

Before attaching the block, it is important to determine what fasteners to use; installation can be done using nails or self-tapping screws. The decision will be made depending on the board used. If the thickness of the canvas is no more than 21 mm, you can use nails, if large sizes It is preferable to use self-tapping screws. The main thing to consider when choosing fasteners is its length and coating. So, you should use fasteners that have an anti-corrosion coating, this can be galvanized or anodized material. This will prevent the occurrence of corrosion processes on the canvases during operation. But as for the length of the fastener, it should be 1.5 times the thickness of the material.

The block can be mounted vertically or horizontally, this will depend on interior solutions and personal preferences. As a rule, a block house is attached horizontally to the facade of a building, which makes it possible to obtain an imitation of a log house, but interior decoration is most often done by vertically arranging the panels. The fastening elements are also brackets, which are called clamps. This method installation is usually used in the process interior decoration when thin and narrow products are used.

You can start the fastening process either from the bottom or from the top. If the work involves using particularly thick sheets, the width of which exceeds 40 mm, then to fasten them you can use 2 screws for each board; one of the screws can be fastened at the tenon, the other at the groove. In this case, for self-tapping screws, holes must be drilled in advance, the diameter of which must exceed the head of the fastener; after the hole, it must be additionally closed using a plug.

Before fixing the house block mechanically the canvases should be connected to each other using a tongue-and-groove system. During the installation process, the house block will certainly have to be joined at the outer corners; to do this, you will have to cut it at an angle of 45°; as an alternative solution, you can use the outer corner; in its role, it is permissible to use slats.

Less labor intensive and more in a simple way The corner design method involves nailing a block in the right place, to which the block house panels will fit at an angle of 90°.

If the block house is to be mounted indoors, the conditions of which are characterized by high humidity, it will be necessary to ensure air flow from opposite side canvases

In order to extend the service life of the cladding and give its surface a deeper and richer color, the boards can be further processed. To do this, the surface should be primed and then covered with a wax-based varnish, which can be replaced with colorless paint. The surface will then need to be sanded and covered with 2 more layers of varnish. Periodically paintwork will need to be updated. Despite the fact that the installation of a block house is quite labor-intensive, you can install the panels yourself.

As the proverb says: every man must build a house, plant a tree and raise a son. And if the last two points do not cause any particular difficulties, then when building your home you may have some questions. Using the advice on the site, you have probably already been able to build your wooden dream without any problems, and now all that remains is to give your log house the final touch - to finish it.

Trying to preserve the style of the log house, we will consider the option of finishing it with a block house, or rather, the rules and advice on its fastening and installation, so that you do not have questions about how to attach a block house with your own hands. Due to the fact that the block house is presented on the market in several versions, the methods of its installation will therefore differ slightly. All work on finishing the house should begin after the house has settled, otherwise your efforts may go to waste.

Before starting any work on laying a block house, you must first prepare the walls of your wooden house.

Note: caulking of a wooden house is done at least twice: the first after construction is completed, the second after a year and a half, when the log house has given the necessary shrinkage and shrinkage. The third in 7-9 years.

External preparatory work.

They are practically no different from the interior decoration of a log house. The only thing worth considering is that when cladding a building, it is always insulated additional materials(foam plastic, mineral wool, etc.). This can be overlooked during interior decoration.

Additional preparation also includes drying and treating the wooden panels of the block house with an antiseptic. Iron, vinyl and plastic block house does not require any preliminary procedures.

Having completed everything necessary preparations, you should decide what type of house block you will use to decorate the building.

Stage two. Lathing for fastening the blockhouse.

Wondering how to attach a block house You must first understand what it needs to be mounted on. Lathing is needed primarily to ensure a smooth surface of the walls and to additionally insulate them using various materials. For a block house, only vertical sheathing is used due to the peculiarities of its appearance (you haven’t seen a log house with vertically arranged logs anywhere, have you?).

Before starting the lathing, you should use a level and plumb line to mark the walls and only after that proceed to the actual installation. To do this, use a level to tighten the fishing line at the top and bottom of the wall. It is worth starting with the longest of the walls of the log house, while the fishing line is first stretched at the top of the wall, then using a plumb line the lower fishing line is leveled (this is done so that the wall is not blocked).

Wooden sheathing.

This type of sheathing is made from wooden planks (20*50mm) or bars (30*30mm; 40*40), which are attached to the wall of the log house using galvanized nails or self-tapping screws.

The first plank is attached along a vertically stretched fishing line; all subsequent ones must also be adjusted to a horizontal level. To align the planks, sawn boards and small spacers are used, which, depending on the need, are adjusted along the entire length of the plank or block. The spacing of the bars is approximately 40-60cm, depending on the type of block house used.

It is worth remembering that wooden sheathing requires the same treatment as a log house (antiseptic, etc.). It is mainly used for wooden blog houses.

Advantages:

  • Wooden planks can always be trimmed to the desired level if they are nailed a little unevenly.
  • This type of lathing has a high load-bearing capacity and is preferable for exterior finishing.
  • Although fastening will require cutting out spacers, the fastening process itself is simpler than with a metal profile.

Flaws:

  • The price of wood is an order of magnitude higher than that of a profile.
  • The tree requires additional processing.

Tip: to give greater load-bearing capacity and stronger and convenient fastening you can use the counter-lattice method. In which, after installing the main guides, perpendicular beams are additionally attached to them. This type of lathing is more stable, but its price is correspondingly higher.

Attaching a block house to a wooden house

Lathing made of metal profile.

How to attach a house block in the metal version is very simple. With such lathing, a U-shaped (UD) is used, which is attached to the wall using spacers that are also bent in the shape of the letter P. Using spacers and their bends in in the right places the profile is leveled and achieved required plane walls All metal profile elements are attached exclusively using self-tapping screws. Mounting step vertical bases ranges from 35 to 50 cm due to the weaker load-bearing capacity, as an option it is worth considering the option of conro-lattice.

Advantages:

  • Faster installation
  • It’s easier to level the sheathing using spacers
  • Availability and low price material used
  • Does not require additional processing

How to properly secure metal sheathing under a blockhouse

Flaws:

  • Weak load-bearing capacity of the structure
  • Difficulty in attaching wooden planks (limiting attachment options)
  • Limited applicability for external sheathing

The metal profile is mainly suitable for the iron and siding version of the blog house.

Plastic sheathing.

Enough the new kind sheathing the building using plastic profile. It is attached mainly to a flat surface using self-tapping screws. Has more lightweight system installation and increased load-bearing capacity (compared to metal), but it is very difficult to find on the market and if the walls of the log house are not level, the use of a plastic profile is almost impossible.

Stage number three. Blockhouse fastening.

Having decided on the sheathing of the building and made a choice in favor of one of the materials, you have come to the main question: how to fasten the block house? Whatever type of installation you choose, it is worth remembering that they all imply installation of house block panels in a horizontal direction from the bottom of the wall up.

Installation of wooden panels of a block house.

The most representative type of house block, made in the form of a carriage plank and imitating a rounded log or timber. Suitable for any type of decoration due to its attractive appearance and great opportunity layouts with other materials. Perfect for any home, whether made of logs, bricks or blocks.

This type of house block is the most expensive and requires a more complex approach to the fastening process. There are quite a large number of options for laying wooden panels; let’s look at the most popular ones.

  • Using a clamper. A kleimer is a special strip used to connect the panels of a block house with the sheathing, and also ensures a tight connection of the panels to each other using the tongue-and-groove system. The clamp is inserted into the groove of the board and, using a self-tapping screw, connects it to the sheathing bar. The only drawback is the gaps that may appear between the panels due to the clamp (they can be eliminated using a special wood-colored paste).
  • In this case, fastening occurs using a self-tapping screw or a cluster, which is driven and recessed with the head into the “tenon” of the panel. This method is fraught with chipping of the “spike” when improper installation and accordingly the defective panel.
  • Like the previous option, a bunch/screw is driven into the tenon, but only at an angle of 45°; this method is more effective and the riskiest (due to the increased danger of damaging the panel).
  • Using a drill, holes for a screw/nail are drilled in a wooden panel. After the panel is secured, the fastening cap is recessed into the hole and hidden with a special wooden plug using glue. After sanding it, the cork resembles an ordinary knot. Quite a painstaking and at the same time reliable fastening option.
  • This method is relevant only for an outdated type of block house that does not have a tongue-and-groove fastening system and is made in the form of an ordinary board on one side and a log on the other. It uses both method No. 4 and the option of attaching it with special glue or liquid nails.

Note: The self-tapping screw must be at least twice as long as the thickness of the block house board.

All of the above options (except for No. 5) are identical both for fastening inside the premises and for the exterior decoration of the building. It is worth remembering that to insulate the walls of a log house, you can use both internal and external cladding.

Don't forget: Wood is a finicky material that requires constant care. If you used it for external cladding, do not be lazy to monitor its treatment every 4-5 years!

  • The best view of the building, both inside and outside.
  • At proper care does not lose its attractiveness over time and is easily updated.
  • The thickness of the board (2-4cm) provides additional insulation and noise insulation.
  • Risk of damaging the panel with some installation options.
  • Additional costs of money and time for periodic re-processing of wood.
  • Flammability of the starting material.

photo of the block house installation pie diagram. Theoretically, you should have it like this, the only difference is the fastening

Metal block house.

Very promising and most importantly economical option designing a house as a block house. Appeared relatively recently, but has already gained popularity thanks to its excellent performance qualities, low price and excellent appearance. It is mainly attached to a metal profile and is best used for exterior decoration of a house.

The main advantage of such a block house is its increased resistance to environment. The panels are fastened using self-tapping screws, which are drilled into a specially designed perforated fastening strip. This type of connection is simpler than wooden panels, but requires additional insulation. Typically, wind/moisture protective film and mineral wool or polystyrene foam are placed in such a lathing.

Advantages:

  • Price and Availability
  • Various colors
  • Easy to install
  • Increased resistance to external influences
  • Durability (warranty from 25 to 50 years)

Flaws:

  • The inability to restore the finish after the end of its service life (unlike wood, metal cannot be repainted or varnished).
  • In summer, at high temperatures, in a house covered with such a block house, it turns out to be a steam room due to the high heating of the metal.
  • Sometimes it is difficult to hide mechanical damage to such cladding.

Siding, vinyl, plastic.

The concept of siding includes all synthetic finishing options for a block house. Their undoubted advantage is the high range and greater availability of material. And due to the wide variety of siding panels, the possibility of arrangement various styles cladding performance.

Installation, as in the case of the metal version, occurs using threaded screws. But when applying external cladding, it is worth considering the susceptibility of such panels to temperature changes. Because of this, when they are installed between the panels (this is most acute for vinyl panels), a temperature “pocket” (gap) remains. It is necessary so that when the temperature rises (and, accordingly, the panel expands), the siding does not split or crack. On average, the gap is from 1 to 2 mm; it is worth considering that the panels themselves, when fastened with self-tapping screws, should also not be rigidly connected to the sheathing (you need to leave a gap between the cap and the panel of at least 1 mm).

These gaps reduce the effectiveness of the home's insulation. This problem can be solved at least a little by using plastic sheathing building. Due to the fact that the sheathing, like the siding itself, is subject to deformation and structural changes during temperature changes, rigid fastening to such a sheathing frame is allowed.

  • Price quality
  • Easy installation
  • Lots of design and layout options
  • No additional processing required
  • Attractive appearance
  • Poor resistance to temperature changes
  • Weak resistance to mechanical damage

Memo: only wooden look The house block can be considered a full-fledged wall. It has enough load-bearing capacity for bookshelf or wall carpet, other types of block house are simply not designed for nails or screws to be driven into them (driving a nail for a picture into a metal or plastic block house is a big problem).

Video: fixing the block house

Episode four. Completion of installation. Difficulties.

Although it would seem that the question and installation stages are described above, you may encounter the following questions and problems.

Wooden block house.

  • Angles. The most difficult part of installation. Craftsmen with straight arms, cut out special grooves in the corners of the log house into which the panel board is laid. This method has a very attractive appearance. Less capable people cover joints using special corners, strips and slats (such strips are attached mainly with glue or liquid nails).
  • Another option is to cut the panels into a 90° angle. With this arrangement, the plank seems to fit into the plank of the adjacent wall and the result is an imitation of laying a log “in a bowl”
  • The second complication may be door and window openings. Fortunately, to solve this problem, you can find on the market a fairly large assortment of various platbands that will hide the cracks and harmoniously fit the doors and windows into the big picture houses covered with a block house.

Video on how to make corners

Metal block house

The main problem when decorating this type of block house is the need to purchase additional additional elements (corners, panels to hide joints, plinths, etc.)

Siding, vinyl, plastic.

Like metal version requires a large number of additional additional elements. It is worth noting that thanks to a large number siding options and the general type of fastening of these panels, this option is the best suited for the noble cladding of your wooden house, at minimal financial costs.

It is worth remembering that finishing a house as a block house itself involves significant expenses, but:

  • If you decide to make your home in wooden style Even during the construction process, you can use glued or profiled timber (which is much cheaper than a solid log), and then finish it as a house block. You will get almost the same log house for a much lower price.
  • In the case where the log house has distorted the walls during the shrinkage process, as an option to correct the situation and give the log house the desired appearance.
  • When using cheap logs during the construction process in order to give nobility to the building.
  • How additional remedy insulation, protection from wind and moisture, as well as noise insulation of the room.
  • And finally, just to develop a flight of imagination and add originality to your home when creating a design.

As paradoxical as it may sound, they are best suited for finishing a wooden house. wooden materials. The use of other types of block house is justified only in case of lack of finances, because no advantages of synthetic material can compare with the beauty of natural wood.

And in the hope that by understanding how to attach a block house with your own hands, you will not miss the main thing, preserving the style of your log house, and will make a choice in favor of the material you need.

The construction industry will always be one of the most relevant, so new technologies are constantly being developed to quickly and efficiently achieve the assigned tasks. Modern equipment has multifaceted functionality, and the materials have features that allow them to be used in complex physical and weather conditions. True professionals in this type of activity try to keep up with the times and constantly monitor new products on the world market.

Advantages of a block house with a video example of installation of building materials

There is an opportunity to build Vacation home from specialized timber, but this will require a lot of financial resources and physical effort. An excellent alternative for implementing such an idea is, which is quite simple to install, and the visual appearance meets the desired requirements. This modern variety lining, which has a number of undeniable positive qualities. In the provided video of the block house installation, you can pay attention to its Main advantages:

  • Made from natural breeds.
  • With its use, it is possible to independently control the humidity level of the building.
  • Economical cost compared to alternative materials for exterior decoration.
  • Easy installation, completed in the shortest possible time.
  • Durability.
  • Mobility allows you to replace parts of the overall structure damaged by mechanical impact at any time.

A professional approach to the installation of a block house, as in the video posted on the page, will be the key to the successful completion of the task. Let's comment on the video of the block house installation for the article. This is a unique material that can be used as exterior and interior decoration, but it is surprising that the installation technology does not differ significantly.

Wooden sheathing, metal sheathing, methods for attaching a block house

What to look for when choosing a material

At the first stage, you should pay attention to the quality of the material. It is worth imagining its markings and distinctive features. As we have already mentioned in previous articles, manufacturers supply block houses to the market with 3 quality standards: A, B and C. They differ in the presence of knots, chips, cracks, wormholes, changes in color, bark residues and processing defects. The material with the least number of defects is marked with the Latin letter A. Two letters, for example, AB, mean the material of standard A contains 50% of the defects from standard B. The block houses of the listed varieties also differ in price. The best quality lining will have the highest cost.

As you can see in the video of the installation of a block house, in order to avoid future accumulation of moisture, you need to waterproof the surface. This is a mandatory moment to eliminate possible troubles: damage to the fastening of the sheathing, changes in the properties of the wall material, etc.

Next, install the sheathing, which will help ensure an even and neat finish. Often used for this wooden slats(bars) in increments of 30 to 60 centimeters.
The sheathing can also be made from galvanized profile, although it will be more expensive and more difficult to adjust. Before installing the sheathing, it is recommended to mark the wall of the house using a plumb line, level and string (you can use fishing line). Secure the initial plank with a stretched twine, and align all subsequent ones both vertically and horizontally, using the same materials.

A few words about insulation

If you are planning to pre-insulate a building, then pay attention to the following points:

  • For a wooden house, it is quite possible to limit yourself to sealing: seal the crowns, caulk, use wood sealant.
  • The sheathing is installed on top of the vapor barrier.
  • Insulation (ecowool, polystyrene foam, glass wool, basalt fiber, etc.) is placed between the slats and sheathing, so the thickness of the slats depends on the thickness of the insulation layer (calculated based on the heat loss of the building).
  • Wind and moisture protection is attached to the insulation layer with a stapler.

How to attach a block house

There are several ways to secure a block house:

1. Using screws (self-tapping screws), the main material is attached to the sheathing. There may be several options: recess the head of the self-tapping screw into the groove of the block house, tighten the screw at an angle of 45 degrees, pre-drill a hole for the self-tapping screw with a drill and screw it until it stops, and then close the resulting recess with wooden plugs on glue.

2. Clamps can be used as alternative fastenings. They are inserted into the grooves of the lining and then fixed with self-tapping screws.
