Instructions for installing a handle for the front door. Instructions for installing locks and latching handles of the “Knob” system. What are door handles made of?

Pen - necessary element door fittings designed for convenient door opening. Practicality door design largely depends on the external aesthetic appearance, design features and functionality of this accessory. With constant use of the door, the handle, regardless of the material and type, often becomes unusable: it wears out and breaks. Therefore, in case of any problems, it must be repaired or replaced with another one. In order not to call a specialist, you can perform this procedure yourself.

Brief instructions on how to disassemble a door handle will familiarize the reader with this simple process.

According to the installation method, there are 2 types of handles:

  • invoices;
  • mortise

Overlay fittings are installed on the door leaf using a strip; for a mortise design, there must be a hole in the door.

By purpose there are:

  1. input;
  2. interior.

Based on functionality, door products are divided into 2 types:

  • movable;
  • stationary.

Movable handles are available in 2 versions:

  1. rotary (knobs and buttons);
  2. push.

The analysis of a door handle depends on its type and design features.

Design features

Stationary handles are produced without latches or locks. The fastening elements to the door block are screws or self-tapping screws. Such fixed structures are decorative in nature and serve solely for the movement of the door. They can be 1-sided or 2-sided of different shapes, connected by an axial element. They are installed on interior or plastic balcony door blocks, rarely on entrance ones.

Pressure products consist of 2 levers L-shaped, which are connected by a rod passing through the door block. In such a device, when turning, the halyard tongue enters the inside of the door and locks it. Using the elements, external and interior doors are mounted.

The main advantage of the model is its reliability. The failure rate of push mechanisms is much lower than others.

The rotary mechanism is most often made in the form of a ball or button with a diameter of 50-60 mm with a lock located in the center of the round handle. The keyhole can have a 2-way exit or 1-way with a latch. The door opens with a simple twist. Such fittings may also contain a door opening blocker. Therefore, they are often used in bathroom door designs and interior units, and are also called knob handles.

They are compact, easy to install, and low in price, but have disadvantages such as low strength and fragility due to jamming of spare parts inside the mechanism.

Rotary and push products differ in the shape and method of opening the latch.

Components of the mechanism

Pivot and push door products for interior doors have the following spare parts and components:

  • latch;
  • strip or socket;
  • decorative flange;
  • fasteners;
  • special key for squeezing and removing the mechanism.

The door hardware kit with keyhole is supplied with keys.

Required Tools

In order to remove the interior door handle, you need to prepare the following tools:

  1. drill;
  2. feather drill;
  3. cutter;
  4. flat screwdriver or screwdriver;
  5. roulette;
  6. marker;
  7. chisel;
  8. hammer.

How to remove

Dismantling door hardware is not a problem if you have the necessary tools and minimal theoretical knowledge of the mechanism. You can remove the door handle of an interior door yourself without calling a technician. To do this, you must follow the instructions:

  • Support and secure the door.
  • Pry the decorative flange with a knife and pull it out a little. Underneath there are fasteners that need to be unscrewed.
  • There is a spring-loaded locking pin on the decorative flange of the pressure device. Press it in with a screwdriver. In rotary models, the pin is located inside the body. In order to get to it, insert a key or awl through the technological flange hole. If the pin cannot be felt, rotate the flange until it contacts it.
  • Press the pin while pulling the door device.
  • Unscrew the mounting screws.
  • Separate the inside of the door element from the outside, remove the handle and decorative flange.
  • If you need to remove the latch and replace or repair it, remove the screws securing it to the side door block, remove the bar, then the mechanism.

When installing accessories to another location, you should not disassemble them for spare parts. It is attached to the door structure in the reverse order. If the handle or latch needs to be repaired or replaced, further disassembly is performed.

How to disassemble a door handle

Replacing a door handle is carried out for the purpose of repairing it due to breakage, wear, in the presence of abrasions, scratches, to improve the appearance, as well as when completely replacing the door block.

Before starting work, the type of mechanism and its features are established, because some models with simple device are easy to disassemble, and some have more complex elements, such as latches with locks. Carrying out such work is difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to consider replacing each type of door hardware separately.

Round

To disassemble a round door handle or knob handle, you must follow these recommendations:

  1. Using a tool at hand, hook up a decorative flange or trim with a simple keyless rotary lock.
  2. Use an awl, nail or special key to press the opened stopper.
  3. At the same time, carefully pull out the handle and remove it.
  4. From the side of the removed part, unscrew the bolts from the mounting plate and disconnect it from the door leaf.
  5. Unfasten the cylindrical mechanism, the latch.
  6. Remove the screws and detach the tab.

If there is no need to change, it is rearranged. It happens like this:

  • Insert the latch so that the beveled part of the tongue faces the direction the door closes.
  • Fasten with 2 screws.
  • Insert the piece of hardware with the key drum on the other side of the door structure.
  • Attach the clamping part and secure with 2 screws.
  • The handle should turn without jamming and return freely to its normal state.
  • Correct it. To do this, you need to carefully hold one side and align the other.
  • Attach the decorative trim.
  • Insert the rest of the handle.

The accuracy of installation and operation is checked both from the latch itself and from the drum device with the key.

Stationary

The stationary product has simple design, is attached to the door with screws. Therefore, it rarely breaks, and is removed only when it is necessary to exchange it for a more functional model.

To unscrew the fittings for an interior door, you need to do the following:

  1. Inspect the door mechanism for the presence of an axle rod. To do this, hold the handle with one hand and turn it with the other.
  2. If the mechanism is located on a rod, remove one supporting side, the second comes off on its own.
  3. If the rod is not found in the handle, use a flathead screwdriver to remove the screws holding the handle in place.
  4. Remove it by gently pulling it towards you.

When unscrewing the mechanism, you must carefully hold it with your hand so that after removing the connecting screws, part of the product does not fall out of the connector and is damaged.

For interior doors

In the pressing device, the process of disassembling it causes difficulties. This is due to the fact that the fittings are attached to the axial rod and tightened with a 4-sided joint.

To repair the handle of an interior door, disassembling the push mechanism is carried out in 3 stages:

  1. Remove the screws that hold the cover in place and remove the plugs.
  2. Then you need to loosen the fixation of the rod and separate the 4-sided square.
  3. Remove the cover plate on the other side, the remaining part of the mechanism and the axial rod. After removing the parts, you need to pull the handle towards you.

The pressure product is ready for replacement or repair.

How to fix a pen

Door handle repairs are often carried out in the following cases:

  • the mechanism does not return to its original position;
  • the handle jams and is difficult to turn;
  • The tongue does not move when turning or pressing the device;
  • the handle falls out without damaging the base.

Often the cause of these problems is wear and tear of the part during constant use. Therefore, it is periodically necessary to lubricate the mechanism parts and the keyhole, and clean them from dust and dirt. When lubricating, the door product is rotated so that the viscous liquid is evenly distributed among the elements.

If the handle is loose, it is necessary to correct and tighten the fasteners.

Sometimes it is necessary to repair fittings in metal Chinese door. Products made in China from silumin malfunction and break, and installing a lock on such a door is not easy. Simpler mechanism replace. The principle of operation is similar to replacing an element in interior doors.

In the interior

In door handles for interior doors, repairs are most often made when the handle falls off. The base remains attached.

The reason is the use of low-quality fittings, as a result of which the locking ring could break or fall off.

To carry out repair work, perform the following steps:

  1. Unfasten the base from the door.
  2. Inspect the retaining ring. If it has moved, you need to adjust its position and install it. If the ring bursts or breaks, it is replaced with further installation of the handle.

The duration of the procedure is 15-20 minutes.

Repair of the door handle of an interior door is carried out if, after opening the doors, the fittings do not return to their normal position.

The cause of the malfunction is a broken or displaced spiral.

To replace the spiral, carry out the following work:

  • remove the device;
  • unfasten the damaged part and replace it;
  • secure with a locking ring at the top;
  • install the mechanism.

If the spring breaks, you can make it yourself from a small piece of steel wire. Pre-wind it, heat it over the fire until it turns bright red and put it in cold water.

Lock removal and repair

Repairing interior door locks is difficult. The causes of malfunctions are different.

When using cheap, low-quality silumin door fittings, the 4-sided pin may break. The solution to the problem is to purchase a steel mechanism from trusted manufacturers and completely replace it.

A common problem with locks is the tongue not working properly. This is possible with a short pin. The square can move in the direction of the latch, pressing it, reducing operation.

Repair work locks are carried out in this way:

  1. A long pin is purchased and the length is measured.
  2. Using a grinder, it is shortened to the required size.
  3. Then you need to disassemble the interior door lock.
  4. The square is changed, door fittings are installed.

When installing the handle, the base must cover all the holes that remain from the previous mechanism.

A lock with a handle can be replaced or repaired even by a novice master who knows how to use available tools.

Any door must include handles, otherwise you simply won’t be able to open them. Many developers do not pay enough attention to door handles, believing that their main purpose is to assist residents in opening and closing the door. However, the handles still have to withstand the heavy loads of the door and fit into the overall design of the room. It seems at first glance that installing this fittings on interior doors is very simple. However, in this case, deviations from the instructions for installing the door handle are not allowed!

Purpose of door handles

Before you begin directly installing door handles, you must first buy fittings. To do this, you need to decide on the model and manufacturer of the pen. This is not too easy to do, since there is a wide variety of fittings on the market, which differ from each other in appearance, size, price and material used.

First of all, door handles are divided into two types: for interior and exterior doors. Accessories for front door should be not so much aesthetic as reliable and durable, because a colossal load is placed on them, since it is unlikely that it will be possible to open the heavy entrance door to the apartment without pressing the handle. Often, door handles for entrance doors are equipped with special steel linings and combine the functions of protectors, that is, they serve to protect the cylinder mechanism from drilling, breaking and other forceful methods of breaking.

Handles for interior doors have a less massive appearance; they are intended to be more beautiful and elegant. But no one has denied their reliability, because no one will like it when the handle constantly remains in their hand when opening or closing an interior door.

How the handles work

When purchasing door handles, it is recommended to pay special attention to their functionality and adaptability to hand movements. Depending on the principle of operation and the shape of this fittings, the following types of door handles are distinguished: push-button, stationary, push-button (knobs) and handles for sliding doors.

Lever handles

The lever handles are equipped with a halyard latch that is embedded in the door. When you press the handle, the lock tongue moves, the latch is hidden, and the door opens. When the door handle is in its original position, the latch is extended and the interior door is locked. Thus, installing a push-type door handle is only possible if the door is equipped with a lock with a latch.

Push-type handles, in turn, are divided into two types: models with separate overlays and models with a continuous overlay. Lever handles, which have a solid overlay, are usually used with latch and deadbolt locks, which are operated by a key. When selecting such a handle, the center-to-center distance between the axis of the keyhole and the handle, the width of the lining, the shape of the keyhole and the cross-section of the profile pin of the door handle are taken into account.

Split handles are also used with locks that have a latch and a key-operated deadbolt. However, when selecting these handles, the interaxal distance is not taken into account; only the size of the pads is taken into account. If a lock without a deadbolt with only a latch is used on an interior door, then it is customary to install a push handle with one socket. In this case, the key is no longer needed.

Push-button knobs

Knobs are a type of push handle, often called ball handles. There is no lever that needs to be pressed, and to operate the latch you need to turn the ball. In the center of such a ball there is usually a keyhole. The handle opens the door with an ordinary turn. It is customary to install noba door handles on the door to the bathroom or toilet; they can be closed with outside with a key, and with an internal one - with a button or latch.

Stationary handles

Stationary handles, unlike push-type models, are not connected in any way to the door lock. They cannot be turned or pressed, but only pushed away from you or pulled towards you. They simply install a stationary handle on the door leaf: attach such fittings to entrance doors with tightening screws, and to interior doors with screws. Stationary handles can have different shapes, but the most common of them is U-shaped (bracket).

Since such a handle is not connected to the lock at all, in this case a lock with a halyard latch will not work; preference should be given to a lock with a roller latch and a deadbolt or only with a deadbolt. Such a roller latch will secure the door, easily releasing it when the door is opened.

Handles for sliding doors

A sliding door is a non-standard solution in interior design. Doors of this design require the installation of a special handle. Handles for sliding doors are built-in, “recessed” inside the door leaf itself. They need to be true to size interior door in order to avoid poor-quality work of the structure.

Door handle material

The materials from which handles are made can vary, but the most common ones on sale are metal and wood handles. Wooden handles look very beautiful, they are especially harmonious for veneered and wooden doors. However, they are most often susceptible to high humidity and are not suitable for use in the bathroom. Only handles made of hard wood are susceptible to abrasion.

Metal handles can be made from different alloys, which is why their performance characteristics differ. The most functional and reliable handles are made of brass. They are resistant to changes in humidity and temperature, light, durable and warm to the touch. Aluminum handles are not as durable as brass, but they can be used in areas with high humidity levels.

For the manufacture of door handles, ordinary and stainless steel are used. This is a durable material that is intended for the heaviest structures. Models made of alloys or metals are usually coated with nickel or chrome plating, which protects the product from abrasion and corrosion. Bohemian or Murano glass is also used to make door fittings. a natural stone and plastic.

DIY door handle installation

Despite the wide variety of door handles, their installation comes down to performing the same actions. Let's take a closer look at how to choose and how to properly install a door handle on the door.

Choosing a door handle

The door handle must necessarily correspond to the overall style of the interior. For example, if your house is furnished in a high-tech style, then it is better to give preference to laconic chrome-plated handles, and leave luxurious gold-plated items with elaborate elements for rooms in the Rococo or Baroque style. For interiors in a classic style, it is better to choose bronze door handles.

In addition, the handle should match the color scheme of the door. The visible parts of any door are the hinges and locks, so the handle should match them in color. For massive doors, you should not choose a weak handle, because it will quickly break under stress. Wood handles should not be installed in damp areas.

The handle must not have a negative impact on the functioning of the door locking mechanism. An incorrectly selected handle causes a lot of trouble: the door does not open or close well. Therefore, before going to the store, you should measure the thickness of the door leaf to find out whether the model you like will suit you.

Make sure that all handle mechanisms are working properly and that the lock tongue is completely hidden inside the case. And finally, when purchasing, it is recommended to touch the handle to find out how comfortable it will fit in the palm of your hand.

Handle installation height

Before you install the door handle, you need to decide at what height you will install it. If you are replacing fittings, then it will be a little easier here, because you will have to put the handle in the old place. The situation is somewhat more complicated with the new door leaf. Remember that door handles in any case should be located at the level of a person’s waist.

When opening a door using a door handle, the hand must be bent at a right angle at the elbow joint. Depending on the height of the owners, the installation height of the door handle is 80 - 120 centimeters from the floor surface. Please note that the handle on the door that leads to the children's room should be placed slightly lower than on the door to the living room or parents' bedroom.

Marking the door leaf

It is recommended to mark the door leaf using a square. Draw a line on one side of the door with a well-sharpened pencil, attach a square and mark on the door with an awl the height of the door handle at a distance of 60 millimeters. Then attach a square and draw the end of the door, after which you can begin marking on the other side.

Continue the line on the other side of the door along the completed line and make a mark at a distance of 60 millimeters with an awl. It is also necessary to use an awl to make a puncture on the end line, dividing the thickness of the door in half. After this, attach the fittings to the installation site so that the tongue protrudes completely beyond the boundaries of the door leaf. In this position, outline the place where you will need to drill a hole for the handle mechanism.

Drilling holes in the door

For drilling larger hole To install the handle, it is recommended to use a special drill that has a crown. To do this, take a drill, clamp a wood bit and drill through the door leaf on one side. Drill not right through, but to a depth that is equal to half the thickness of the door, having first watched how to install a door handle in the video. To make it visible, you can make a mark on the crown with a marker.

Then drill a hole along the markings on the other side of the door until it is completely drilled. With this method, you can be sure that the crown at the exit will not spoil the back side of the door and will not move to the side. Hold the drill at a 90 degree angle relative to the door. The drill must not be allowed to deviate horizontally or vertically.

Once you have drilled the hole for the mechanism, it is time to make a hole for the handle tongue. You can drill it using a feather drill or using a chisel. The most important thing is to make sure that the drill drills evenly, because there will only be about 6 millimeters left at the edges. If you can remove the door, you can pass it between your legs for easier drilling.

Door handle fastening

When all the necessary holes are prepared, you can begin installing the door handle with your own hands. First, you need to take the door handle, attach it to the installation site and use an awl to mark the points for installing the bolts on which the handle itself will be attached on both sides. To perform this operation, install the mechanism of this design in the drilled hole and screw both halves using the bolts included in the kit.

The bolts must be tightened evenly. Remember that the tightening should be such that the door handle works well and the latch easily returns to its original time. Handles in which the bolts are located under the cap and are therefore not visible should be disassembled by pressing the stopper on the handle with the key that comes with the door handle.

Metal frame installation

After you have installed a round door handle or another type of handle, you need to begin installing the metal plate. To do this, you need to make markings again. There are two known marking methods. The first of them lies in the fact that the end of the tongue should be smeared, for example, with chalk, oil, paint or even toothpaste. Then hide the tongue in the door, close it tightly and make an open-close motion several times so that the tongue makes a mark on the door frame.

The second method is this: close the door, slide a ruler into the gap above the tongue and make a mark where it touches the tongue, and also place a mark at the bottom of the tongue. To attach a metal frame to the box, you should mark the location of the hole for the tongue and the plate itself. First of all, you need to make a selection under the tongue using a chisel or a feather drill.

Having made a hole for the tongue, you need to check whether the tongue comes out of the latch completely and whether the door closes. If everything is fine, then you can start creating a selection for the frame, which is also done using a chisel. The metal frame inserted into the sample should be located at the same level with the surface of the box.

The metal frame is screwed to the box with screws. To do this, drill holes using a thin drill, then the screws will fit without distortion. After completing such manipulations, you can close the door to evaluate the result of your work. If the handles open and close easily, the latch moves freely, and the door can be closed by lightly pressing without effort, then such installation of the door handle can be called successful.

Door handle replacement procedure

It often happens that there is a need to reinstall the handle on an old door. The procedure for replacing fittings is slightly different from the installation diagram for a door handle on new door, since the hole for the mechanism of the product already exists, and its dimensions should be taken into account. We recommend that you use some of our tips:

  1. When buying a new door handle, it is worth considering that it must be no less than the old one. Otherwise, the old hole for the mechanism will remain uncovered, which will spoil the entire appearance of the door. If this happens, you need to fill the holes on both sides with wood putty and sand the area with sandpaper.
  2. If you purchased a larger handle than the previous one, then you need to widen the hole for the mechanism. This is done using tools that are used to create a hole for the handle mechanism.
  3. If the new door handle is shorter than the old one, and the old spindle is not suitable for it, then you need to replace it with a new one from the door handle kit. And if the spindle is suitable, then you should use it to get rid of unnecessary hassle that could affect the quality of mounting the handle.
  4. If the lock bar is painted, but you want to return it to its former metallic shine, then in this situation it is recommended to remove this part before installing the door handle and remove the paint using a special product, then return the part to its place.
  5. If you decide to paint the door, then you should first remove the door handles and paint the area that is located under them, and only after that you can proceed to further painting of the door leaf - this allows you to carefully apply the coloring composition to the door, and will also protect the fittings from getting on it paints.

Now you know how to install a door handle. The whole procedure will take you just a few minutes if you correctly mark the door leaf and door frame, and also drill holes evenly for the mechanism and tongue of the door handle. By analogy, you can replace an old handle if it is broken, but you need to be careful when selecting new fittings.

Installing door handles with your own hands is a simple process, but it requires certain knowledge and accuracy when performing the work. In this review, we will look at the three most common types of handles and understand the advantages and disadvantages of each option. We need to choose the optimal solution and install it according to the recommendations outlined below.

Currently, there is no shortage of pens; the choice is so large that determining the most suitable option can become a problem.

  1. Stationary;
  2. Push;
  3. Rotary.

Stationary handles

Most old type products that have been used for thousands of years.

First, let's look at their main advantages:

  • Simplicity. There are no elements in the design except the handle itself and fastenings. Thanks to this, installing such options is much easier than any others. The set of door handles includes only handles and fasteners, which is also important, because you don’t have to assemble a sophisticated mechanism and figure out how to properly set it up and install it;

  • Reliability, due to the simplicity of the design and the absence of moving mechanisms in it, there is simply nothing to break in such products. The only problems you may encounter are damage to the coating over time or loosening of the fasteners if the handle is pulled frequently. Such a structure can only be broken if it is made of low-quality material;

  • Classic look. Such handles belong to the classics, therefore they are widely used in arranging appropriate interiors. Very often they are made in a luxurious style and covered with compounds that imitate patina or precious metals.

Also common forged options, they can also be very, very skillful;

  • Easy to install. Fastening a door handle can be done by anyone - you just need to decide on the location of the products, align them relative to them, after which you screw in the screws that come with the kit;

  • Different materials of manufacture. You can purchase products made from steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, plastic and composite materials. Wood stands apart; it produces very authentic and unusual handles; very often valuable wood is used to make them.

Of course, there are also disadvantages, the main ones are:

  • Lack of locking mechanism. To close such a door, you need to install either a spring latch or a bolt, and this is not always convenient. That is why such products are used less often than others and are most often installed in country houses, bathhouses and outbuildings;
  • Small selection. Although the range of this product group is quite large, only a few types of pens are usually found on sale. Most often you have to buy suitable options to order and wait for some time for delivery.

Rotary handles

This type of product is found quite often, and its main feature is that the door opens by turning the outer part.

This is a fairly simple and convenient mechanism, let’s look at its main advantages:

Note! Round form pens have several names - . The difference between them is the presence of a locking mechanism, which is activated by turning the handle itself left or right. The handle-button does not have it, therefore it belongs to the stationary types.

  • Interesting appearance . Most often, handles have a spherical or cylindrical shape and look good on doors. There are many design options, so choosing something to fit your doors is usually not difficult;
  • Availability of original design options. They themselves are a decoration for any interior and can have a wide variety of colors or patterns on the surface - there are even crystal options, their price is high, but their appearance is luxurious;
  • Compactness- this option takes up little space and is well suited for limited space. In addition, the mechanism is also compact, which significantly simplifies its insertion into the door leaf;
  • Safety. If you hit such a handle, the likelihood of injury is low, unlike push-type options. Therefore, such products are often installed by those who have small children.

Now let's look at the disadvantages of rotary knobs:

  • Low reliability of the coating. Due to active use, the decorative layer begins to deteriorate, which worsens the appearance, and fittings for door handles are not sold separately, and you will have to either use peeling products or replace them with new ones;

Advice! As practice shows, chrome-plated products are much more reliable than gold and bronze options. Take this into account when choosing a specific solution.

  • Poor workmanship. Most of the products on the market are not very reliable or durable. Repairing door handles is not a pleasant task, and spare parts are not always available, especially if you have some unusual option. To avoid problems, try to choose products from manufacturers that are widely represented on the market; at least there will be no problems with repairs;

  • Inability to install other types of handles. If you decide to install a rotating option, then keep in mind that during installation you will have to cut in door leaf big hole. After this, it will not be possible to install a lever or other option; you will have to constantly install the same type of structure.

Lever handles

This is without a doubt the most popular and widespread option, which is found literally everywhere. It consists of two L-shaped handles connected by a tetrahedron, with the help of which the door latch opens when pressed.

As for the main advantages, they are as follows:

  • Ease of use - opening and closing the doors is very easy, and if the rotary options need to be moved by hand, then the push ones can be opened with the elbow if your hands are busy. Most often, the handles have an ergonomic shape, which is also important, but to appreciate the convenience, it is better to buy products where there are display cases for door handles so that you can hold onto them;

  • A huge range of products, you can find options in all sorts of colors and designs. You can decide for yourself which color of door handles to choose, which significantly expands the possibilities of decorating the room. There are also budget options, and the middle segment of premium products, everyone will find a suitable solution;

  • Maintainability. Most often, the mechanisms are interchangeable, so repair problems usually do not arise. And in terms of reliability, this option looks preferable to the one described above, since the lever unlocking system is more wear-resistant and durable.

It should be noted that such products come in two types:

  1. Handles on the socket. They are mounted on a small base; various locking mechanisms can be used under them. If a latch or lock is needed, then an additional socket is placed below; it has the same coating as the main element;

  1. Handles on the bar are most often used on entrance structures, but there are also options for interior doors. In them, the base of the handle is a bar, in the lower part of which there is a keyhole or latch.

The only downside is that the installation process is more complicated, since the work requires precision, and any mistakes can lead to damage to the door leaf.

Description of the installation process

Now let's figure out how to install the handles yourself. Two options will be considered - rotary and push structures. There is no point in disassembling stationary ones, everything is simple - you determine the installation location and screw it on.

Installation of rotary handles

To begin with, you should stock up on everything you need.

Naturally, you need a set of door handles; the following tools will also be used:

  • Feather drills;
  • Drills for wood or metal;
  • Hammer;
  • Chisel;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Tape measure, pencil and square;
  • Drill;
  • Wrench;
  • Wood crown.

Instructions for installing rotary door handles look like this:

Illustration Description

The location of the element is determined. European standards for door handles and domestic GOST require a height of 1 meter, which is considered comfortable for humans. Therefore, first of all, draw lines one hundred centimeters from the floor.

Your lock is taken and markings are made on the door leaf. There is no point in giving specific recommendations - it all depends on the model and size of the pen. Read the instructions and everything will immediately become clear to you. Usually you need to drill two small holes for through fasteners, and one larger one for the mechanism.

Advice! It is better to drill half the thickness of the blade on each side, this is the most accurate way.

After finishing the work, you should end up with something similar - a large hole in the middle and two small ones on the sides.

The main thing is to ensure that the drilling is done on the same line. Otherwise, there will be a displacement, which can make installation very difficult.

If you can purchase a special template for cutting in door handles, the job will be greatly simplified. You will need to set it at the required height, fix it on the canvas and drill holes in the right places.

There are no measurements and no mistakes can be made. But the templates do not fit all pens, so check in advance whether this system can be used in your case.

A hole is also drilled under the core; its diameter is usually 25-27 mm. It is important to find the middle at the end of the door leaf and hold the drill strictly horizontally while working. If anything, you can make certain adjustments, the main thing is not to move the hole too much.

Inserting door hinges and handles is impossible without cutting out grooves for the elements; in our case, we need to make a recess for the latch pad. To do this, the mechanism is placed in the hole, and its outer part is outlined around the perimeter.

Then, using a chisel, a layer of wood approximately 3 mm thick is removed. First, punch the material around the perimeter, and then remove layer by layer until you get the desired result.

While making the recess, constantly check how the latch fits. It's better to do it one more time than to overdo it and take off too much. The work is simple, but painstaking, it is important to do everything as carefully as possible, the appearance of the structure depends on this.

After the latch is perfectly in place, it needs to be secured with the self-tapping screws that come with the kit. They should be tightened carefully so as not to turn the fasteners in the material and thereby weaken it.

The handle structure is separated into two parts, one of them will contain mounting bushings, which is what we need in the first place.

First, a part with bushings and a tetrahedron under the latch is installed. It must be carefully positioned and pressed tightly to make sure that everything is in order and the socket fits snugly against the door leaf.

The handle is placed on the other side, the holes on it are aligned with the bushings. Then two tightening screws are screwed in, which will hold the structure.

The work is almost finished, but most likely you still have spare parts for the door handles, namely the counterpart and fasteners for it. Let's figure out what to do with it.

Close the door and mark at what level the latch is located. Then, follow the marks to attach the counter part and mark the place where you need to drill a recess for the tongue. Lastly, the strip is screwed to the door, and the work is completed.

The photo shows what a properly assembled structure looks like. Everything is neat and reliable. The door can be used.

Installation of lever handles

Now let's look at this option. Naturally, the technology may be different, since the production of door handles is established in many countries and everywhere has its own standards. We will look at the most common option with a latch, which is perfect for interior doors.

Illustration Description

Marking work is being carried out. We said above that the standard installation height for door handles is 1 meter, although you can position them however you like, it’s all up to you.

Using a tape measure, a clear mark is placed.

To clearly mark the door on both sides and at the end, the easiest way is to use a construction square. It is pressed tightly against the edge of the canvas, after which the line is drawn. This way you will achieve perfect marking accuracy on both sides of the door leaf.

Now you need to decide where to drill the hole for the tetrahedron of the latch. To do this, the latch is applied to the door so that the drawn line is in the middle of the square hole.

Don't forget that the mounting plate will be recessed into the surface, so position it flush with the end of the door.

Mark the other side of the door in the same way.

This is what your result should look like. There is no need to strive for accurate markings; it is important to determine exactly where the center of our hole will be; anyway, we will make it slightly larger size tetrahedron so that the element can move.

A hole is made using a drill or screwdriver. For the job, a drill with a diameter of 12 mm is used, you can take the 10 mm version, but then you will have to drill out the hole a little so that the tetrahedron fits into it.

The work is done like this: first, on one side you need to go deeper by about half the thickness of the canvas, then the same thing is done on the other side, and then you can go right through. This is the most accurate way; if you go straight through from one side, then there is a high probability of displacement.

This is what the result of the work looks like, everything is clear and smooth. Make sure the square fits and can rotate inside.

Now you need to mark the end for the core. To do this, a tetrahedron is inserted into the hole, the core is put on it and marks are placed at the top and bottom. Next, you need to mark a point strictly in the middle of the canvas; this will be our main guideline at the first stage.

First, a hole is drilled in the middle. For work use any suitable drill, but usually a thicker version is taken, so that later there will be less work to expand the recess with a chisel.

Since the core has a rectangular or square shape, the hole for it is completed using a chisel. Simply knock out a recess of the required size to the required depth. This is perhaps the most labor-intensive and time-consuming stage. It's simple, but it takes a lot of time.

After the hole is made, the latch is inserted and a recess is marked that needs to be made for recessing the mounting plate.

Everything is simple here: align the element so that it is parallel to the door leaf and carefully draw lines around the perimeter.

To avoid removing excess wood when removing wood, you first need to cut through the material around the perimeter to a depth of 3 mm. It's simple: the chisel is placed on the surface, after which you need to hit it 2-3 times with a hammer. And so on around the entire perimeter.

The removal of wood is carried out carefully and little by little - it is easier to correct it a little later than to remove too much. Insert the latch periodically to control where and how much to remove. If necessary, you can cut through the tree again around the perimeter.

Next you need to make holes for the fasteners. They must be through, since the handle is tightened with special fasteners. Measurements are taken and holes are drilled at the required distance. Here everything is done as in the case above: the work is done from both sides to half the depth of the door leaf.

The core is secured with two self-tapping screws, after which you need to check its functionality. Insert the square and turn it, the latch should move with slight resistance.

The handles are aligned along the holes, after which special screws are screwed into them, they fit into the sleeve and securely fix the structure to the canvas.

For reliability, two more screws are screwed into the handles. They are included in the package.

Lastly put decorative covers on sockets, they cover the fastenings and give the handle a more attractive appearance.

At this point the work is completed, all that remains is to install the response part, this process is described above, there is no point in repeating it.

Conclusion

Now you know everything about the types of door handles and how to install them. As you can see, installing handles is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. You need to follow all the recommendations and do everything very carefully. The video in this article will help you understand the issue even better; watch it if you are going to carry out the work yourself.

In an apartment, the latch installed on the interior door is enough to securely fix it in the closed position. The following types exist:

  • False with mechanical tongue. The tongue of the halyard latch has a beveled shape on one side, and when it fits into a special groove, this shape prevents the door from opening arbitrarily. When the tongue fits into the groove of the strike plate, a clicking sound is heard. You can open the door by turning the handle, which will activate the mechanism, compress the spring and release the tongue. This is the most common type of mechanism, installed on push and turn handles. Rotary handles have the shape of a ball or oval, less often the shape of a cylinder, and are also called knob handles.

Doors with a lock. According to the principle of operation, they are similar to locks, only the function of a key in this case is performed by a latch - a special screw, which can be located on the same bar with the handle or installed separately at some distance. The latch prevents the door from being opened using the handle alone.

Roller ones, which are usually installed on doors with spring hinges. When the door closes, the roller slides into the striker hole and locks the door in the closed position. The latch can be returned to the “open” position without pressing the handle - the door must be pulled with a little force. Roller latches are ideal for children's rooms. With it you do not need to call a locksmith from management company to get to your little mischief makers.

Magnetic ones close almost silently (there is no characteristic mechanical click). The magnetic tongue “sticks” to the strike plate already in the closed position of the door. The advantage of magnetic latches is that installation is much simpler. There is no need to achieve an exact fit of the canvas in the box; the magnetic latch will work even if the canvas has a slight misalignment. The familiar magnetic latch is produced, which consists of a magnet and a metal plate. There are also more complex varieties, for example, a latch with a moving magnet that acts as a tongue.

Important! Interior doors use either non-locking latches, which keep them closed without locking, or latch mechanisms, which can lock the door without being able to open it from the outside (with the exception of plumbing locks). As a rule, latches with a lock are made in the form of a knob handle

In this case, the latch can be located either on the handle itself or on an individual socket.

Installing a door handle on an interior door

When installing fittings and mechanisms on the interior fabric, you need to know several nuances. Now I will tell you about them in more detail.

At what height is it better to install a door handle?

According to standard standards, the door handle should be located from the bottom edge of the interior door at a height of 1 meter, plus or minus 5 cm, this depends on the height of the people living in this house.

If residents are not satisfied with this size, then it is better to proceed from their needs and parameters and independently adjust the desired size

For children's interiors, according to the standard, the bottom of the door is 80 cm, but here you should also take into account your size needs.

Marking the door leaf

First, decide in which direction the interior door will open; this is necessary in order to install the door tongue correctly, because it has a bevel for slamming. Now we measure the required height, it can be either 90 cm or 100 cm.

Usually, on the packaging for the mechanism, there are parameters that need to be cut out for a particular lock model. Moreover, ordinary, simple handles are installed in the same way.

And so, we mark the height with a pencil at the end of the canvas, and on it we mark the middle, along which we will drill in the future. It's best to mark it, it means to mark it sharp object, for example, with a screw, nail or awl. The latch will be located at this location. But at this stage we do not drill anything, but continue to apply marks. Now let's decide where the handle will be. For a knob, this is done in this way: we continue the same marked line at the end, draw it using a square, strictly perpendicular to the canvas, and mark it on both sides

Most often, the knob is installed at a distance of 6-7 cm from the edge, but here it is necessary to pay attention to decorative elements, that is, sockets (if they are of a different type, for example solid, then pay attention to this bar), which will be directly attached between the handle and the door , it is necessary to make sure that they do not crawl out to the edge. Another thing worth paying attention to, for example, if the canvas is decorated with decorative elements or glass is inserted, it is also worth calculating so that the decorative elements of the fittings do not fit and interfere with the elements located on the canvas

Making a hole for the latch

To do this job, secure a feather drill in the chuck. And drill a hole exactly perpendicular to the canvas. It's actually not that difficult, just make sure the recess is even all the way around.

Making a hole for the handle

Now let's start drilling the hole. To do this, fix a bit in a drill for wood with a diameter of 50-54mm. Place the center of the drill at the marked point and begin drilling with careful movements. After some time, without turning off the drill, we pull out the crown. If necessary, turn it off and let it cool, meanwhile clean it of sawdust. Next, we get to work, insert the drill back and turn it on. As soon as half of the canvas has been drilled, we go to the other side and do exactly the same. Just before finishing the work, you don’t need to put too much pressure on the drill, otherwise the bit will slip into the hole and the drill will hit the blade.

Installation of the locking mechanism

Before installing the mechanism in the interior door, it is necessary to recess the bar flush with the door leaf. This is done like this: insert a latch into the hole (we put a bar on it) and trace it with a pencil, then gouge out a small plane with a chisel.

Now we look at the installation instructions and follow them, it is not difficult, since the mechanism itself does not need to be assembled, all that remains is to insert and secure it.

Installation of handles

Now the time for assembly has come, pay attention to which side it is locked on; if the side on which the mechanism with the latch (for locking) is not satisfied, then you can swap this “pinch”, simply move it to the second handle. So, each box contains assembly instructions, and, as a rule, they are not complicated. We assemble and insert the handle. Next, we look at the method of fastening with self-tapping screws or a threaded rod.

To attach it to the screws, you need to attach it to the canvas at a suitable height and screw it onto the screws. If it’s on a threaded rod, then first we drill a hole with a drill and insert the pin into it, then we take the handles and screw them on both sides. To prevent the product from dangling, we turn only one handle. If the fastenings are on self-tapping screws, then you need to tighten the hardware.

Installing a latch handle on an interior door

If this is your first time installing a handle with a latch on an interior door, this task may seem quite complicated and time-consuming for you. But this is only at first glance. There is nothing particularly complicated about this. If you follow the instructions and have the necessary tools, it is quite possible to install a handle with a latch in one hour.

Handles with latched locks are divided into three types: without a latch - a door with such a handle cannot be locked from the inside with a latch - an additional mechanism installed on the handle, with the help of which the door is closed from the inside with a key - on the outside of the handle there is a key connector that allows you to lock the door from the outside , and with inside there is a latch.

Also, latch handles come in two types: Knob - a spherical handle with a latch and a rotating mechanism. Along with the handle, the kit usually includes instructions for installing it and a template diagram for marking the door. The halyard handle is almost identical to the knob, the only difference being the push mechanism, which is driven by pressing rather than rotation.

And although some handles differ in their design and internal mechanism, the installation process is practically no different from each other and is performed identically.

First you need to make markings for the handle and latch. In most cases, along with the pen, instructions are included with detailed diagram markings showing all the required dimensions. If for some reason it is not there, it’s okay, you can do without it.

The height of the handle depends on the individual approach, but most often it is installed at a distance of 90-100 cm from the floor level. Having marked the required height on the door, measure a distance of 60 mm from the edge of the door and mark it with a pencil. Using a square, we transfer the markings to the end of the door, making a mark with an awl exactly in the middle of the end.

Now we need to drill two holes for the handle and latch. The order does not matter, so we start from the end of the door. Using a drill we drill feather drill hole with a diameter of 23-24 mm. Then we install a bit with a diameter of 50 mm on the drill and drill a hole for the handle on the side of the door where we placed the markings. It is better to drill from both sides so that when the crown comes out you do not damage the door covering. As a result, we should have two holes.

We insert the latch mechanism into the hole at the end of the door and trace the outline of the front trim with a pencil. Using a chisel and hammer, we select a groove for it to the required depth so that the trim is flush with the door. We fasten the latch to the door with screws, having previously drilled holes of a slightly smaller diameter for them. Installation of the latch mechanism is ready.

Let's start installing the door handles. On one side of the door, install the trim with a square rod into the latch so that the rod and bushings for the screws fit into the holes of the latch mechanism.

To insert the second part, it must be disassembled. First, remove the handle by pressing the key included in the kit on the internal lock on the side of the handle. Then, using the same key, remove the round decorative trim. We insert the inner trim onto the square rod on the other side of the door and tighten both parts with the mounting screws included in the kit. Then we put the decorative trim in place and insert the handle until it clicks if the latch is beveled. If not, then you need to press it to lock the handle completely.

All that remains is to install the counter plate on door frame. We determine the place where the “tongue” of the latch touches on the frame jamb. It can be done different ways, for example, we mark the tip of the “tongue” with a black marker and open and close the door several times. As a result, we should have a mark on the door frame.

In the marked place we drill a hole for the “tongue” of the latch. Then we attach the counter strip and trace it with a pencil. Using a chisel and hammer, hollow out the groove to a depth equal to the thickness of the plank. We put it in place and use an awl to mark the places for the screws. We drill holes for them with a slightly smaller diameter than the screws themselves, and screw the bar tightly. This completes the installation of the handle with the latch lock.

Installing a handle with a latch lock:

I advise you to listen to these tips, because they did not come out of nowhere.

  1. Do not forget that for frame doors, the handle is installed at a height of 100 cm, since there is a special beam that is built in during the manufacture of the door leaf specifically for handles. Since the rest of the door is simply not suitable for such tasks, and you will simply ruin the doors;
  2. All marks should be re-measured at least twice;
  3. After inserting the locking mechanism, check it. To do this, turn the key several times, at full speed;
  4. You should also take your work seriously and not rush into anything.

Well, that's all, my article is coming to an end. I hope to see you again on the pages of my blog. Happy renovation!

Caring for door hardware

So that the thing lasts long years, she needs to be looked after. It's the same with fittings. Over the years, it ages and wears out, which negatively affects the product as a whole. To slow down this process, do not forget to take care of the fittings.

To care for your hands you need:

  • Wipe them from dust with water by special means for cleaning. Avoid products that contain acids, alkalis or abrasive particles. They can damage the outer coating of the product, leading to rust. After washing, the product should be wiped with a dry cloth.
  • Tighten the loose handle. If this is not done, the mechanism will break.
  • Protect the product from rough mechanical influences.

In addition to the handle, the door lock also needs your attention. Basic care in this case means regular lubrication of the mechanism with special means.. Sometimes sunflower or other vegetable oil is used as a replacement.

Considering that many parts of the mechanism are not easy to reach, when lubrication they use special nozzle in the form of a thin tube. Often, for these purposes, the cover is removed or the handle is dismantled.

To lubricate hard-to-reach areas of the handle, use a tube nozzle.

Thus, having studied the basic intricacies of installing the handle, you are able to master this task without outside help. The main thing is to believe in yourself and then the reward in the form of quality installed handle won't keep you waiting long.

Place for the handle

You can insert the handle into the door yourself only when the door is completely immobilized. This can be achieved in two cases: by removing it from the hinges, and if this is impossible, you need to substitute a foreign object that can hold it at rest (for example, a stool).

Since overhead handles are very easy to install, there is no point in considering the process itself. In addition, the use of mortise models has become popular. It is from their example that one should learn and gain experience.

Initially, we decide on the location of this unit. This refers to the installation height of the interior door handle. Often, its norm varies within 1 meter from the floor surface - this is the most optimal footage, suitable for both a child and an adult.

It is necessary to take into account the location of handles on adjacent doors, if any.

It is also worth paying attention to the texture of the door itself, checking for the presence of fittings on the surface, or other distinctive irregularities and protrusions that may affect the location of the handle.

Having marked the height point on the door leaf, draw a horizontal line using a pencil and a charcoal ruler. We retreat 60 mm from the edge of the door, revealing the location of the central hole. Duplicate the data to the opposite area of the canvas.

Next, you need to set the location for the tongue from the lock. To do this, you need to move the horizontal line to the end of the door and find the center point. After which the locking plate is applied and outlined at this point.

Installing a handle with a locking mechanism

First of all, you should prepare materials and tools, because no one wants to delay the installation of door fittings due to the need to look for a drill or screws of the required diameter? So, let's prepare the following set: a drill and drills, among which you can use a pen drill, a hammer and a chisel, a tape measure, a pencil, a screwdriver and, in fact, the fittings that will be installed.

How to make a template: making the insertion process easier

It will be easier to insert the fittings if you first prepare a paper template. Often it is already included in the instructions for the lock. Otherwise, you can do it yourself:

  • a strip of paper is applied to the end of the door;
  • mark on it in the center the point of the hole for the lock tongue;
  • draw two lines at the top and bottom along the height of the lock plate;
  • mark the distance on both sides from the center to the support screw - the square rod of the locking mechanism.

The template is ready. It can be applied to the future exit point of the tongue and mark the place where the drill enters the door leaf on one side, before cutting into the fittings.

If you don’t want to make a template, you can simply attach the assembled lock to the door leaf and mark the entry point of the drill - this is the fixation point for the handle.

How to find a place for a pen

First drill a hole in the door leaf. Here, before installing the fittings, it is necessary to make a small digression and tell you what height for installing the handle is the most correct.

If the door is made of solid wood, then the handle and the embedded lock element can be at any height convenient for residents to open the door. If the door is “Canadian”, or is made according to a similar principle, that is, it has a hollow interior or filled with corrugated filler, then you should know that in such doors the frame beams are located at a height of approximately 90 cm from the floor. It is at the location of the frame beam that door handles are required to be installed so that they do not damage the door during operation. The exact location of the frame beam will allow you to do the usual tapping with your knuckles on the door leaf.

Making a hole in the canvas

In order to drill a hole, you will need a regular or feather drill. In the second case, the hole will look neater. As soon as the tip of the drill appears on the opposite side of the door, you should move the drill and continue drilling on the other side of the door. This is necessary to ensure that chips do not form in the decorative covering layer of the canvas.

A part of the handle mechanism with a locking screw is inserted into the drilled through hole on the outside of the door leaf, onto which (if this part of the handle is not already assembled in the package) three rings of the locking mechanism, a socket with a ring and a handle are put on. On the other side of the door, a handle is placed on the rod. Most of the work is done, all that remains is to prepare the place for closing the locking tab.

Making a hole in the door frame

First of all, you should note the place where the lock tongue contacts the door frame. This can be done simply by closing the door a little using a pencil mark. You can stain the tongue with oil or graphite and close the door - the imprint from the contact of the hardware element with the surface of the frame will be noticeable.

After the point of the future entrance of the lock is marked, a hole is drilled in this place. A platform is hollowed out around it along the area of the metal plate. Its depth should be a millimeter less than the thickness of the plate. Now this element of the door handle can be applied and fixed with screws. At this point, the operation of inserting the lock handle for the interior door can be considered successfully completed and we can begin installing locks on the entrance doors.

Let's get started, what needs to be done first?

To quickly and efficiently mount a latch handle or a more difficult-to-install mortise mechanism, you will need the following tools - a tape measure, a screwdriver, a square, an electric drill, self-tapping screws, a chisel, a hammer, bits of various sections and a set, a simple pencil. It is also advisable to stock up on a conductor. It is a template that greatly simplifies the operation of marking holes on the door leaf and their subsequent drilling.

Mortise mechanism

Having prepared the specified devices, decide on the installation height of the fittings that interest us. Experts say that the handle should be about 0.8–1 m away from the floor. In principle, you can choose a different height, taking into account your own height. The main thing is that you and your family members feel comfortable using the handle. Now you can markup. If you purchased a conductor, this process will take a minimum of time. Simply screw it from the end to the door structure. Subsequently, the holes on the jig will completely coincide with the tongue lining of the handle being used.

If you do not have such a template, mark the installation location of the fittings using a simple pencil and a square:

  1. Measure the required height from the floor, draw a horizontal line on the canvas (first on one of its sides), and then transfer it to the other side of the door and to the end.
  2. In the middle of the drawn line at the end interior design check mark. It indicates the location where you will drill the hole for the tongue.
  3. On the drawn line you also mark areas for mounting the handle itself (marks must be placed on both sides of the canvas).

This completes the preparation for installation. You can begin the main activity.

Handle for interior doors

First, let's look at what such a pen actually is. We are all familiar with them, but it is unlikely that most have thought about its design features

It is important for us that she helps open the door. However, during installation it would be nice to become familiar with its design

Here's what's included in a standard door handle:

  1. Handle for opening doors (2 pcs.).
  2. Decorative rings that cover the bolts and fastenings of the handle.
  3. One rod or bar of metal that connects one handle to the other.
  4. The socket is the body of the mechanical part of the structure, in which you cannot do without locks, springs and a tongue.
  5. Stoppers that limit the movement of the tongue and handle.

But, in addition to the standard configuration, all handles for interior doors differ in the installation method, their shape, operating principle, material and the presence of a lock. If we talk about the installation method, there are two types of door handles:

  • overhead or stationary;
  • mortise

Invoices – quite simple products, which just need to be attached to the door leaf. The work is simple and fast. But mortise door handles are installed in the door leaf in mortise holes. Here you will have to work hard.

As for the way door handles work, they are divided into the following types:

  1. With a push mechanism. These are elongated products, when you press the handle of which, a tongue moves out of a groove in the frame and allows the door to open. The smaller the turn at which the door opens, the more convenient it is to use. Such products are very popular due to their simplicity. Remaining in a horizontal position, the doors are securely closed.
  2. With swivel mechanism. Here the operating principle is slightly different. In order for the tongue to open the door, you need to perform a circular motion. In this case, the handle is a spherical knob (noba). There is no lever in it; you just need to grab the noba with your hand and turn it in a certain direction.
  3. The simplest option is a stationary handle. It does not have a latch and opens even with a simple push. The handle only allows you to conveniently open the door. This design is the cheapest and has no locks.

If we talk about the materials from which they are made, then there is plenty to choose from. Some are made of wood, others are made of metal (aluminum, brass), there are even glass, plastic and stone interior handles. The most popular are metal products coated with chrome, nickel, etc. The material guarantees wear resistance and service life of the handle.

Note! Products may be equipped with a lock or sold without it. This is selected based on the user's needs.

When you have to close the doors often when necessary, it is better to choose models with a latch and install it.

It is more convenient to do the work when the door is removed from its hinges. It’s much more convenient to work this way. Therefore, do not rush to install it in its place immediately after purchase. When it is not possible to remove it, you need to secure it well so that the blade does not move during operation. This is how you can clearly and correctly mark and embed the lock.

Another important point is to read the instructions for the pen. We are used to resorting to it only after wrong actions. However, to avoid them, you just need to read the instructions first. It will indicate all the dimensions, thanks to which it will be possible to ideally select the diameter of the pen and crown.

Now you can review the installation instructions, which will help you complete the task quickly, easily and without errors. And for those who are taking on such work for the first time, a visual video will be provided.

Making holes for the latch and handles

After carefully setting the markings, it is time to use the drill. With her help, without special labor, the necessary holes will be made. When drilling, you should use a feather drill. It will allow you to more accurately and clearly make holes for connecting handles in the form of a square.

Important to remember! You need to buy equipment for such work after purchasing pens. This is justified by the fact that the parameters of each product are different and may not correspond to the available drills

To work in the end part, a drill of a feather model is also used. The recess is made similar to the length of the snap mechanism.

Holes in the door for the handle

Then, having deliberately measured the thickness of the lining, we remove the excess with our own hands, using a chisel. We clean everything until the strip can fit tightly and completely into the door leaf.

Do-it-yourself installation instructions for door locks

From this moment we will begin to understand in detail the issue of directly inserting a lock with our own hands.

First you need to decide on the door itself, or rather, its location in the installed state. You must clearly understand which side of the canvas the hinges will be installed on and which side the lock will be installed on. For clarity, it is better to place the door leaf against the wall near the opening. Mark the installation location.

Everything here is quite simple - we measure 800-900mm from the bottom edge of the canvas with a tape measure. This will be the place where the handle will later be installed. But this is still a long way off, and first you need to deal with the castle itself.

Now we mark the center of the door end - put two marks and draw a straight line, which will mark the axis of the lock installation.

We will be attached to it in the future. Now we take the lock and measure the length of its part embedded in the canvas, divide the resulting size in half and set aside this calculation result from the center (the mark at which the handle will be installed), in both directions, along the drawn central center line.

In this gap we will make a recess for the lock

Drill the mounting hole. We measure the width of the embedded part of the lock, select the appropriate feather drill and install it on a drill or screwdriver.

The drill should be several millimeters larger than the width of the embedded part of the lock.

Now we drill, but this must be done in a special way - set the tip of the drill to one of the extreme marks indicating the dimensions of the insert, and then go deeper by about 1 cm. Now we move the drill higher by half its diameter and again drill 1 cm deep. So, moving the drill further along the line and going one centimeter deeper each time, we reach the final mark.

Now we repeat the procedure and go deeper another centimeter, then another and another, and so on until the required depth is reached.

We insert the lock and mark the hole for its decorative strip - just outline it with a pencil, and then take out the lock.

Cut out the secretion. If available manual frezer, very good - with its help you will get a neat notch. If not, then we arm ourselves with a hammer and a chisel and, to begin with, placing the chisel perpendicular to the end of the canvas, we make notches along the entire contour of the countersunk.

Then we take out its insides to a depth equal to the thickness of the decorative strip of the castle. You need to work carefully so as not to damage the coating of the door leaf. Inset door locks

Now our task is to drill holes for the handle and the secret of the lock, if there is one. First you need to make markings - to do this, the centers of the holes in the lock are transferred to the door leaf using a tape measure.

Again, the pen is installed on the screwdriver or drill (only now larger diameter) and through holes are drilled straight through the canvas.

There is one subtlety here - if you drill these holes on only one side, then the likelihood that the finish of the canvas will be damaged is very high. When the tip of the feather drill appears on the opposite side, drilling should be stopped and continued on the other side. Installing handles on doors with your own hands

Now that all the holes are ready, you can start assembling and installing the lock and handles on the door.

Everything is simple here - first we insert a lock into the end of the door and fasten it with two or four self-tapping screws. Then we insert the secret, which is fixed with one screw from the side of the decorative strip of the lock. After this, we insert a square into the hole above, onto which the handles are put, and fix them with self-tapping screws or ties that come with them.

This is how locks are inserted into interior doors

I will not be afraid to remind you once again that all work must be performed with extreme care and caution - it should be understood that one wrong movement or incorrect marking will lead to damage to the door leaf. Constantly monitor your actions and everything will be fine!

Installing a handle on an interior door

Interior doors are sold without fittings; the delivery set includes only the door leaf and posts from which the door frame will be assembled. There are no factory-made holes in the canvas for installing locks and handles. This is due to the fact that handles, while standardized, come in different designs and sizes.

In addition, the choice of accessories depends entirely on the preferences of the buyer. Therefore, a person who has started a renovation and replacement of interior doors is faced with the problem of choosing whether to invite a specialist or install the handles himself.

It should be noted that if you decide to install the doors yourself, you will definitely be able to handle the installation of door handles.

Door hardware repair instructions

Required:

  • Screwdriver Set;
  • screwdriver

During operation, the fittings on the door may become loose or come off. In this case, its repair will depend on the type of handle. If it has a spherical or similar shape, then it is secured using a through pin. To repair it, you need to open door turn one of the handles counterclockwise, fixing its other part and decorative trims in place. When separating them, the pin should remain in one of them. Next, you need to adjust the pin and, putting the pads back, insert the element with the pin. Then place another part of it on the other side, and carefully wrap everything with your hands, without using tools.

When repairing a door handle in the form of a bracket, you need to screw in all the screws with either a screwdriver or a screwdriver. If the screws turn, they need to be unscrewed. Next, moving the handle on one side so that it covers the old holes, on the other side all the screws are screwed into new places. To avoid them from scrolling, they need to be screwed in without force. Fittings of this type are located vertically for convenience.

Inserting locks into interior doors: necessary tools and their purpose

The choice of the tool needed to embed a lock into an interior door depends primarily on the technology with which this process will be carried out.

There are two of them - one professional, which involves the use of high-precision modern power tools, and the second, one might say, artisanal, carried out using a hammer and chisel.

It is, of course, up to you to choose which one you will stick to. I will only say one thing - in the latter case, the result may upset you. On average, if we talk about tools for cutting locks, you will need the following set.

  • A manual milling cutter for cutting locks - this is what professionals use to ensure high precision and the quality of the selection of landing recesses for the lock plate.
  • Thanks to the high rotation speed of the cutter, it allows you to cut out recesses for the lock without damaging the decorative covering of the door.
  • Hammer. What would it be like without him? Most likely, it will be needed to work in tandem with a chisel for the artisanal cutting method.
  • But it can also be useful with a professional approach to business.
  • Chisels of different widths. With their help, you will have to cut a mounting hole for the lock bar - this tool is quite clumsy, and the result of working with it depends largely on the hand of the master.
  • A drill or screwdriver will be needed to drill holes for the handles and a deep mounting hole for the lock itself.
  • Flathead and Phillips screwdrivers. It is with them that it is best to tighten the screws that secure both the lock and the handles themselves - if the screwdriver comes off the screw, the door will most likely be damaged.
  • Set of feather drills for wood.
  • They are mounted on a drill or screwdriver and are used to drill mounting holes. We'll tell you how this is done a little later.
  • Roulette. There is no need to talk about its purpose, everyone already knows what it serves. How to properly embed a lock photo

That's all you need to solve the question of how to embed a lock into a wooden door? You can also talk about tools that are rarely used in this matter, but it’s probably not worth it, since without some experience you can do a lot of irreparable things with them.

You can clearly see the process of installing a lock on an interior door in the video below.

What does it consist of?

To make it easier to cope with the installation of door hardware, we will find out what parts and elements are included in the handle.

  • Lever. This is the main decorative part of the product.
  • Each handle has a special ring that is attached to the door.
  • Rod and socket- also two integral parts of the door handle.
  • Travel limiter. This element prevents the sash from hitting the wall when opening.
  • Stoppers.

You can read about how to repair the handles of plastic windows in this article.

In addition to the above, the “composition” of a door handle also sometimes includes the following elements:

  • locking mechanism;
  • tongue;
  • metal box cover; (therefore, it is necessary to know the dimensions of the door frame of the interior door)
  • screw for tightening the structure. This part is necessary when the handle is installed on a hollow interior door.

It happens that the “composition” of the handle also includes a latch. In order to install such a model, you will need to insert an additional rotary screw. Keep this in mind.

Perhaps it will also be useful and interesting for you to learn more about what they look like

Types of handles for interior doors

Installed door handle in section.

Depending on the type of door, you may need a right or left handle; handles for doors also differ different thicknesses. The locking mechanism should operate smoothly and quietly. The less rotation of the handle is required to remove the lock tongue into the groove, the more convenient the handle is to use. When purchasing, you need to clarify how the material relates to various types of cleaning products, since some coatings peel off or become stained. Locks on interior doors are push-type, which are made in the form of a lever and have the same principle of operation. When using such handles, the doorway is securely closed, cannot open on its own and closes tightly enough.

Brass is considered a comfortable material for making door handles, as it quickly adapts to the temperature of the room and your hand does not freeze when it comes into contact with them. A popular type of push and turn mechanisms are knobs, or knobs, or a ball handle.

Height marking diagram for installing the handle.

They do not have a lever to press, and in order for the door leaf to be moved in the desired direction, you need to turn the ball. The inconvenience of such mechanisms is that they cannot be opened without a free hand, like a lever, by pressing with the elbow, shoulder or foreign object.

Often such mechanisms are equipped with locks, lever (safe) or English cylinder. Interior partitions, as a rule, do not need very complex locks, and therefore simplified models are used in the configuration. Good quality lever locks should have at least 6 levers, or code plates, since the more teeth on the key, the more difficult it is to open the mechanism. English locks are even more complex, as they consist of cylinders. In order for the lock to open, you need to line up all the cylinders at the required height. A lock has a good level of privacy if the key has side perforations. A variety of cylindrical locks are disc locks; instead of cylinders, they have discs with cutouts of a certain size and shape.

Two types of door handles and differences in their installation

If you understand the types of door handles depending on the method of their installation, then you can distinguish only two main types of these devices - these are simply handles that are not responsible for the operation of any mechanism, and handles that work in tandem with a lock or latch.

  • Stationary handles are the simplest type of these products, which sometimes are not distinguished by sophistication. It's just a knob that turns and spins only when something is wrong with it. Such handles are installed very simply and in this regard do not deserve any attention - in most cases they are either simply screwed to the door leaf with self-tapping screws, or connected through it using a threaded rod. In the latter situation, to install a stationary handle, you only need to drill a through hole in the door leaf at a height of 800-900mm from the floor. Then everything is simple - a pin is inserted into the hole, onto which handles are screwed on both sides of the canvas.
  • Handles that are paired with a lock or latch (lock handles) have a more complex installation process, which is more influenced by the presence of a locking mechanism. Such handles can be divided into two subtypes - rotary and push. Rotary handles include the so-called knob handles, made in the shape of a ball into which a primitive locking mechanism is integrated. Types of door handles

You can continue to understand the types of door handles - they may differ in the material from which they are made, according to some design features and similar, one might say, minor nuances. But we will not do this, at least within the framework of this article - in this moment Our goal is to understand the principle of installing handles. That's what we'll do next.

The video shows the process of installing a door handle with your own hands.

How to disassemble and reassemble an interior door handle

An installed knob handle can be disassembled in two ways, depending on its design. Unfortunately, most of these models are of rather low quality and often fail.

Disassembling one structure begins with carefully prying and removing the decorative trim. . The lining has a special groove, usually it faces down

The ball-shaped handle will interfere with unscrewing the screws, so you need to press out the locking pin and at the same time, with a little force, remove the handle from the central rod. Once the handle ball is removed, it will be very easy to unscrew the screws.

The ball-shaped handle will interfere with unscrewing the screws, so you need to press out the locking pin and at the same time, with a little force, remove the handle from the central rod. Once the handle ball is removed, it will be very easy to unscrew the screws.

To disassemble the second structure, which does not have a locking pin, you need to press the spring-loaded pin through the technological hole with the key supplied and remove the handle ball. If the key is not long enough (this happens), use a simple nail.

Then the decorative trim and screws are unscrewed. If you cannot find the spring pin through the access hole, it means that the knob handle was not assembled correctly. Rotate the decorative trim 180° and the problem will be solved.

The handle is assembled in the reverse order.

Types of Door Handles

There are various types of handles that are different from each other in color, shape, material, mechanism and installation method. If we take the last feature as the basis for the classification, then there are two types of pens:

  1. Invoices.
  2. Mortise.

Installation of first class products is simple and does not cause any serious trouble. They are simply fixed to the surface of the canvas, unlike other types of products. Installation of mortise handles involves pre-drilling a hole in the door leaf.

Mortise devices are divided, in turn, into two more types:

  1. Rotary or knob handles. They open the door without pressing the handle. The operation is performed by rotating the holder. This type of device can be equipped with a latch that locks the lock tongue. This allows you to close the door from the inside. The handles are very convenient to use, as they have a round shape. The rotary handle is convenient to use due to its round shape
  2. Push or latch handles. Here it is easy to guess that the mechanism comes into action after pressing the lever. The latch handle is activated after pressing the lever

When purchasing accessories, pay special attention to the raw materials it is made from. Products can be made of metal, wood, glass or natural stone

They should be selected according to the color and model of the canvas, as well as the style of the interior.

Hidden handles can be installed for sliding systems

It is worth noting that the handles are of a hidden type. They are designed for sliding systems such as sliding doors. When the sashes move, the products do not interfere or damage wallpaper or walls.

Installation tool

You will need the most common tool, which is found in every home:

  • A screwdriver or drill with a set of drills (including feather drills) and a hole saw.
  • Chisel.
  • Hammer.
  • Awl.
  • Square and soft pencil. The mark of a soft pencil is clearly visible on the veneer.

A marking diagram is included with the door latch, but it is easy to make marks for the holes without it. 1.0 meters are measured from the bottom edge of the canvas on both sides. You need to measure 6 cm from each edge of the door and make a mark. Using a square, draw a strictly horizontal line that will connect these two points. At the end of the canvas, a mark with a pencil and an awl is placed on this line in the center. The latch strip is attached and sharp knife the veneer is cut. We remember that the strip must be recessed into the door leaf so that it forms a single surface with the leaf.

Some experts advise starting drilling from the end of the blade with a feather drill. With this sequence of work, when drilling with a crown, the chips will fly into the hole already made, and not clog the teeth of the crown.

The feather drill should go to the depth of the shoulder blade, no more. The drill is pressed to a point at the end of the blade and a hole is drilled. Then, using a crown, holes are drilled alternately on each side of the canvas; there is no need to make them through. As soon as the tip of the crown appears on the opposite side, you must stop the drill and start drilling on the other side. This way the veneer will not be damaged when the crown comes out.

After the holes are ready, using a chisel and hammer, we make a selection along the line cut with a knife under the latch bar. Install the latch and tighten it with two self-tapping screws. It is better to take not the “standard” self-tapping screws that come with the latch (they are usually soft metal), but high-quality ones.

Using the key included in the kit, we disassemble the handle into two parts so that it can be installed. To do this, one mounting screw must be loosened and the other unscrewed. The central rod is inserted into the hole and the fastening screw is tightened tightly on one side. Then the second half of the knob handle is put on the rod, and the second screw is tightened. Self-tapping screws are screwed on both sides, which will cover the decorative trims and the screws will not be visible.

After installing the knob handle, all that remains is to install the “return” on the box. The door is closed, but not completely, and the upper and lower edges of the tongue are marked with a pencil. Using a square, the distance from the edge of the leaf to the center of the latch strip is determined, and this dimension is transferred to the door frame. Then a “return” strip is applied to the box, the veneer is cut with a knife, and a chisel is used to cut out the strip and tongue. The door is closed and the latch is checked.

Then the strip is installed on the box. Special “pockets” for recesses under the tongue are sold; they are made of plastic or metal. The screws that secure the return strip can be covered with self-adhesive plugs. After this, the installation is complete.

Installing a handle with a lock is a little more complicated

You will have to tinker a little longer with the mortise mechanisms. As noted earlier, in such a case it will be necessary to make a special, sufficiently capacious hole for the lock.

Door handle installation

In this case, the handle installation diagram itself will remain the same:

  • mark the door structure;
  • draw an outline;
  • drill several holes in the marked area, and then, using a chisel, gouge out the required area to accommodate the mechanism;
  • remove 2–3 mm of the door covering to install the decorative trim flush;
  • install the lock and secure its elements.

After that, insert the handle and fix it. Place the nozzle in the recess on the frame and secure it with self-tapping screws. In cases where the handle gives a slight play, its axis needs to be filed with a grinder to a suitable length. This completes the work. Use an interior door that you yourself have equipped with a convenient and functional handle!

Step-by-step instructions for installing a door handle

  1. Marking the canvas.
  2. Drilling holes for handle and lock.
  3. Lock installation
  4. Handle insert.
  5. Marking the loot.
  6. Cutting a groove in the loot

We will pay special attention to each stage of the work, analyzing it in detail. . Marking the canvas

Marking the canvas

Installation begins with markings on the door leaf. First you need to decide what height will be chosen for the location of the handle. Using a square, tape measure and pencil, mark the places on the canvas where holes need to be made. To do this, measure the required distance from the floor and draw a horizontal line with a pencil, first on one side, and then transfer it to the end and the other side.

At the end in the middle of the drawn line we mark the place where the hole will be made for the lock tongue. On the same line on both sides at the same distance from the beginning of the blade - this is usually 60 mm - we mark the places where the handle itself will be inserted.

Drilling holes for handle and lock

Using a drill and a hole saw, we make a hole for the door handle. You need to check on each side of the canvas to a depth of half. For convenience, experts recommend making a mark on the outside of the crown with a marker. First, we drill on one side to the required depth, and then on the other until it is completely drilled. This is done so that the crown does not move to the side and so as not to damage the appearance when selecting material for fittings. You need to hold the drill at an angle of 90 degrees and do not allow it to deviate either vertically or horizontally. Using a chisel we smooth out all the unevenness.

We make the hole for the lock using a drill and a pen. The work should be carried out carefully, since the distance between the pen and the corner of the end is not at all large.

Some experts prefer to make a hole for the latch first, and then for the handle. It doesn’t matter in what order you do this.

Lock installation

To install the lock, it must be inserted into the corresponding hole. Place the overlay on top and trace it around the perimeter with a pencil. Now you need to use a chisel to select the material to a depth equal to the width of the overlay in order to recess it into the canvas. For ease of work, you can use several chisels of different widths.

The trim is attached to the door with screws. It is recommended to make holes for them in advance using a thin drill, attaching an overlay and marking the necessary places with a pencil.

Handle insert

There are products in which the screws are on the outside. There is no need to disassemble them. When putting one part in place, you need to get into the holes of the latch with two guides, which have threads for bolts. Then you need to attach the second half and tighten it with bolts. They need to be tightened evenly so that the handle works well and the latch returns easily.

Products in which the screws are hidden must be disassembled. They come with instructions and a key for disassembly. The handle can be easily removed if you find the stopper on it and press it with a key. The collapsible part is bolted, after which the handle is put in place. Do not use force; assembly should be easy if done correctly.

Marking the loot

After installing the handle, you need to make a corresponding hole for the tongue in the tray

Therefore, first of all, it is important to carry out the markings correctly so that the door closes well and the lock fits into the groove without effort or friction.

Close the interior door and mark the top and bottom of the tongue on the door with a pencil. Using a square, we determine the exact middle of the castle and mark this value on the loot. Use a drill and a pen to make a hole and remove excess material with a chisel.

Cutting a groove in the loot

Before screwing the trim, it is important to check how the door closes. This will allow you to be sure that the groove for the tongue is made correctly and there will be no difficulties during operation. When closed, the door should have a slight play, that is, it should wobble a little. This is necessary because the metal thickness of the latch strike plate will be added to the groove.

The strap is fastened flush with the tray. To do this, as when installing a lock, it needs to be sunk into the hole to the required depth.

A slight play may remain even after you have screwed the cover on. This defect can be easily corrected. The strike plate always has a tongue with a small hole for a screwdriver. It is designed specifically to be bent. Using a flathead screwdriver inserted into this tab, you can adjust the doors by bending it slightly.

The entire process described can be clearly seen in the video of fitting fittings into interior doors. Installation of the handle can be considered successful if it turns easily and the latch fits into the groove without friction or effort.

Introduction of a sheer dog plate into the design

To properly install the dog plumb plate, you need to find and mark the middle of the hole on the frame box. At home, it is customary to use toothpaste for this, but another similar ingredient can also be used.

With one hand we press the handle and hold it in this state. Meanwhile, with the other hand, apply the paste to the tip of the dog along the entire vertical edge. Then you should close the door and release the handle. At this moment the dog will come into contact with the box part.

Press the door handle again and bring it to the open position. Opening it, we find that the paste has left traces. This area will be the mark for embedding the plumb plate. This method is the most reliable and error-free. Even experts use it.

We outline the resulting imprint from the protruding part of the latch with a contour. Using a drill and a pen, we need to drill a hole for the dog. It is also necessary to make openings for self-tapping screws that act as a fastening system.

Upon completion of the preparatory work, we screw the lining in the area where the screws are located. To ensure a tight and soft fit of the door leaf in the opening, the plate located on the opposite side of the latch is subjected to a pressing process.

From the above material, the following instructions emerge:

  1. We determine the attachment point of the handle with the lock;
  2. We measure the locking units and mark them on both sides of the door;
  3. We make recesses to place the locking apparatus and the handles themselves;
  4. We first install the core, and then the handles themselves;
  5. We identify the location of the vertical plate and make a recess;
  6. on self-tapping screws.

After carrying out such work, you will no longer have questions about how to install a handle on an interior door. Having done this once, you can easily repeat all subsequent installations with the same success.

One more point should be taken into account. Handles with an embedded lock should only be installed on doors whose material will later be subject to painting. Good luck in your work process!

How to cut a lock

Installing a simple handle is easy, but sometimes it becomes necessary to equip the door with a lock. In this case, for proper installation, it is best to remove the door from its hinges.

Stages of work

  • Mark on the door leaf the place where you need to install the handle with the lock. Trace the contours of the lock system with a simple pencil.
  • Using a drill with a pen attachment, drill several holes in the required space. Then try inserting the corresponding lock elements into these holes. If they do not go through, widen the holes with a chisel.
  • Remove two millimeters of the door top covering so that you can recess the iron trim into the thickness of the material.
  • To insert the handle, drill holes of equal diameter on both sides of the door leaf. Consider their size so that the rod passes freely.
  • Insert the lock and secure it with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver or screwdriver. Place the axle inside the lock, and then deepen the ring. Place the handle on the axle and lock it tightly in place.
  • Make a small indentation on the door frame to accommodate the pin and tongue. After this, press down the iron nozzle and carefully secure it with self-tapping screws.

But how to change the lock on a metal door, and what you should pay attention to, is outlined

Purpose of the latch

Today there are a large number of models on the market similar products, which in terms of design are noticeably different from the first examples of these mechanisms. However, in both those and others it is still their main function is provided. which comes down to holding the sash in a closed but not locked position.

The owner can appreciate this option in the case where an interior door separates a heated room from an unheated one. If the interior door fits as tightly as possible to the sash, then this will help minimize heat loss and better protect against the penetration of extraneous noise. This element will also be very useful in the summer months, when the temperature rises to critical levels: if the room is sufficiently well insulated, the air conditioner will take less time to create a comfortable thermal regime in it, for which it will not need to increase the intensity of operation .

You should also pay attention to such an important point as the risk of injury. There are often situations when a draft causes an interior door to open randomly, which can cause injury to a child or adult

If there is a handle with a latch in the design of the interior door, this is excluded

It is also important that this accessory is not able to change the appearance of the interior door. because it is carefully disguised

Installation of mortise locks with handles

Mortise locks with a rotary handle and a lock at the end of the door leaf, a special design of the lock cylinder, are produced by manufacturers of more than a million variants of locks. The number of such models available is sufficient for metal and wooden doors. Do-it-yourself installation of mortise mechanisms begins with careful marking of the mounting mechanisms on one side of the door.

Door marking diagram for installing a door lock

When working, you have to use chisels of different sizes, periodically sharpening them on a sharpening machine or whetstone at a certain angle.

After making sure that the lock structure is completely recessed into the door leaf, we make a signal hole using a drill thin drill for the rotary handle, having first removed the lock from the door.

We check the accuracy of the hole and drill the door using a crown of the required size from both sides of the door to the middle of the leaf for the handle. Once the lock and handle are installed, all screws must be tightened. After checking the functionality of the lock without closing the door, you can begin marking the groove for the loot.
In the door frame opposite the lock, make a mark on the frame for the latch. Having opened the door leaf, mark, arrange and secure the door with the groove.

If the groove is marked incorrectly and the lock tongue does not fit or there is a large gap, it is necessary to dismantle the groove and move the groove using a chisel. The chute pad and the lock bar should fit snugly, but without friction.

Reinstalling the handle

Requires a minimum set of tools:

  • Drill
  • Chisel 19 mm
  • Crown diameter 50 mm
  • Spade drill 23mm wide
  • Drill bit for wood or metal 4 mm
  • Hammer
  • crosshead screwdriver
  • And a pencil

So, let's start cutting into the lock.

Drill a hole in the center with a 4mm drill bit.

We place the lock flush with the door and make a mark according to the fact

We drill through the hole with the same drill, maintaining a right angle.

Using a 50 mm crown we make a cut on one side of the door.

Attention!

Your specific case may require a different size crown.

Let's finish on the other side.

We take a self-tapping screw of a suitable length, close the door along the door frame and through the 50 mm hole, insert the self-tapping screw into the remaining 4 mm hole and, using pressure, make a mark in the door frame.

Using a 23mm feather drill, we cut a hole at the mark to a depth sufficient for the lock latch to engage.

Using the same drill, we drill a hole for the lock along the mark.

We insert the lock and make a mark with a sharp pencil to recess it into the door leaf.

Using a chisel, we make notches strictly according to the marks and make a selection so that the lock sits in the pocket, then we fasten it with self-tapping screws.

We begin to assemble the lock, insert the outer part into the grooves (as a rule, it does not require disassembly).

Then carefully remove the decorative “cup” sitting in the grooves, then press the latch and remove the handle.

We connect the two sides with screws.

We insert the handle so that the latch operates.

Snap the decorative “cup” into place.

We attach the striker, make a mark, use a chisel to remove the excess and screw it on.

Done!))) A correctly embedded lock closes freely by pressing the door leaf until it slams.

Video explanation for installing the lock

Instructions for installing a door lock (knob)

1.Marking the door

Apply markings on the door leaf to install the knob (lock) according to the template. Recommended distance from the floor is 965 mm.

2.Marking holes

After you have made the markings, drill two holes: 50 mm in diameter for the knob (lock) handle and 23 mm in diameter for the latch mechanism.

H. Installing the strike plate

Install the strike plate at the same height as the latch so that the additional tongue of the latch remains recessed into the body of the latch when closing, which is an obstacle when pressing.

4 Disassembling the knob (lock)

To disassemble the knob (lock), use a special key to press the spring-loaded latch at the place where the handle is attached and remove it.

5. Latch length adjustment

6. Installing the latch

Install the latch into the groove of the door (make sure that the bevel of the latch is directed towards closing the door). Install the cover plate with the rod so that the rod and coupling sleeves fit exactly into the grooves on the latch body.

7. Installing the knob trim(castle)

First, slide the inner jujube cover plate onto the rod and secure it with screws (or screws). Then screw on the outer part of the trim.

8. Handle installation

Install the handle so that the groove on the rod coincides with the groove on the knob handle, press the handle until it “clicks.”

9. Rearranging the mechanism in the halyard handle

For models of latches with a halyard handle (versions 01 and 03), installation is also provided for both left and right doors. To do this, it is necessary to remove the cylinder mechanism and the fixing mechanism from the handle body and swap them (according to the figure), in accordance with the side of the door opening.

Installation procedure.

1. Determine the installation location of the knob and apply markings, following the template and installation instructions.

2. Using the installed latch body, mark the installation location of the strike plate on the door jamb and select a groove for the strike plate.

3.Install the strike plate and secure it with screws.

4. Alternately check the operation of the knob from outside and inside the room.

5. For models of latches with a halyard handle (versions 01.03), installation on left and right doors is also provided. To do this, it is necessary to swap the locking mechanism and the cylinder mechanism from the handle body.

As you can see, fitting a lock into a door is not such a difficult task, the main thing is not to rush.
