Elegance in detail: corner finishing system

The beauty of the facade is in the overall picture, which consists of details that are invisible at first glance. But there are no unimportant little things! And finishing the corners of the house occupies a special place among them. Here we need a well-thought-out system of elements that will decorate the house, combine with the main decoration and at the same time strengthen the most vulnerable places of the corner joints of the panels.

To ensure that a house finished with siding has an aesthetically complete look, the Alta-Profile company has released the Alta-Decor system of finishing elements. This collection also includes external corners.

Decorative finishing of house corners for facade panels

The collection of facade panels "Alta-Profile" is harmoniously complemented by figured external corners. In structure and color they match the panels, be it brick or stone. Corner finishing can be done:

  • absolutely identical to the facade of the house;
  • contrasting to the facade: you can finish the walls like brick, and the base and corners - facade panels"Rocky Stone" or from any other collection.

"Try on" various combinations figured external corners and facade panels and you can choose the most suitable one using online programs"Alta-Planner".

Universal corner finishing system

The Alta-Decor collection also includes universal finishing of the corners of the house facade, which can be used with absolutely all Alta-Profile finishing materials - horizontal, vertical and foam siding, block house and facade panels. In addition, such a system can be installed with other types of finishing - for example, on a plastered facade.

The corner finishing system consists of a base and overlay trim elements in three different sizes. By combining them, you can achieve interesting design effects. There can be a lot of options, and the choice depends solely on the taste of the owner and the desired result.

Basic installation rules: how to finish corners?

The corner finishing system is installed in much the same way as siding and facade panels. Since corners are more often subject to increased loads than walls, it is preferable to mount them on a metal sheathing.

A flat sheathing profile is used to install the corner finishing system.

When finishing corners, you must follow the following rules:

  1. The first step is to install the “mounting base” profile. To do this, 3 screws are screwed into special holes on each side.
  2. Overlay elements are attached to the base different sizes in no particular order. They are inserted into special grooves and snap into place.
  3. You need to think about the installation procedure in advance, since the finishing elements are only suitable for one-time use.
  4. No special tools are used during installation.
  5. Siding and facade panels are inserted into a special gap between the sheathing and overhead elements.
  6. If the thickness of the panels is greater than the gap, then they are secured using a mounting shelf, which is bent on each side and secured in the appropriate clamps.

Cladding the corners of a house with a plastered facade

The Alta-Profile corner finishing system is suitable not only as a complement to siding and facade panels, but also with plastered facades. In this case, you need to cut off the mounting shelf for fastening from the mounting base profile, and secure this profile to the wall using self-tapping screws. Next, the installation of overhead elements is carried out in the same way as they are installed when finishing a house with siding or facade panels.

Such a system will become an attractive accent if the house is decorated with decorative plaster, and will also help strengthen the most vulnerable areas of the facade.

Finishing the outer corner: 5 reasons to choose Alta-Profile

External corners require additional reinforcement. The plaster in this place most often crumbles. And the panels at the joints also need protection. The Alta-Profile system for finishing external corners helps solve this problem.

Finishing the corners allows you to create a bright and unique design facade of the house. For façade panels, you can choose shaped outer corners that repeat the façade finish or contrast with it.

For siding and decorative plaster, Alta-Profile has developed universal system corner finishing. Thanks to the combination of different geometric shapes, you can make the facade extraordinary.

The corner finishing system is installed very simply, without the use of special equipment and tools. Even a beginner can cope with the job.

The finishing elements are made of environmentally friendly plastic: they are durable, do not fade in the sun, and are not afraid of moisture and temperature changes.

In addition, materials for finishing corners can be purchased together with Alta-Profile siding or facade panels. You don't have to waste time searching suitable materials. Our specialists will calculate as accurately as possible required amount profiles and strips. And a certified installation team will install them in accordance with all the manufacturer’s requirements. All you have to do is choose how you want the front of your home to look and, in particular, whether the corners will neatly enhance the trim or become a bright and attractive design element.

The outer corners of walls are most vulnerable to damage, especially if there are small children or animals. After all plaster mixtures They are not durable and it is enough to lightly touch the corner with a small object to damage it. As a result, if the corner is covered with wallpaper, then dents will form, and if it is painted, then nicks will form. Therefore, when renovating an apartment, it is necessary to strengthen the external corners with special corners.

The corners are made of PVC plastic (in the photo on the left) and metal. Metal corners are installed during wall repairs before they are leveled and puttyed and are not externally visible after the repair is completed. Plastic corners are installed after the walls are wallpapered or painted. Plastic happens different colors and you can choose a corner to match the color of the wallpaper or the color of the walls. Plastic corners can be installed at any time, for example, if the outer corner has lost appearance due to damage or soiled with dirt.

Using a metal corner profile

Protecting external corners with a metal corner profile is preferable, since after the renovation of the room is completed, the corner profile is not visible and, most importantly, the problem of aligning the corners and the walls extending from the corner is solved.

The length of a standard corner profile is three meters, so before installing it you need to measure the length of the corner with a tape measure and cut off the excess part of the profile.

Since the corner profile is made of thin steel, it can be easily cut with metal scissors. The sides of the corner are cut towards each other, and the uncut part is easily broken by several bends.

If the corners of the walls are straight (if the walls are lined plasterboard boards), the easiest way is to secure the profile corner using small nails, as shown in the photo. If it is not possible to hammer nails into the corner or it is uneven, then you need to apply a small amount of gypsum, alabaster or rotband to it at a distance of no more than 50 cm from each other, and before the solution hardens, apply the profile corner to the corner to be leveled.

To securely fasten the profile corner to the wall if there is a gap between its sides and the wall, before leveling or plastering the walls, be sure to fill these gaps with a leveling mixture using a spatula.

This measure will prevent the corner from bending when leveling the walls and will ensure reliable fastening of the corner as a beacon.

After the solution fixing the profile corner has hardened, you can begin further finishing of the adjacent walls. In the photo you see how the corner is hidden by a rotband in the wall surface extending from it.

The use of a profile corner will not only reliably protect the corners from destruction, but also make almost perfectly smooth outer corners. During its renovation, I protected and leveled all six external corners in the hallway using an angle profile.

Using plastic corners

Plastic corners made of PVC are used for protection or decorative finishing of painted, wallpapered or decoratively coated external walls. But their use is not limited to this. PVC corners can be successfully used for decorative finishing of windows and door slopes, design of panel joints and in many other cases. Corners are produced in different colors and are even available in transparent ones. They come in widths from 10 mm to 100 mm, lengths of 1.5, 2.3 and 3.0 meters. There are also corners in the form of an arc, specially designed for installation on the corners of arches.

Plastic corners are usually secured with liquid nails, but there are corners coated with inside adhesive layer protected with anti-adhesive paper.

It should be noted that plastic corners can only be glued for sufficiently straight corners, otherwise the gaps formed between the side of the corner and the wall can only worsen the appearance. Therefore, before deciding to protect the corner with a plastic corner, you need to determine whether cracks will appear. To do this, you need to attach a long construction ruler to the corner or flat board. The PVC corner is quite elastic and if the nonlinearity of the wall angle is smooth, then a gap will not appear.

I used a plastic PVC corner for decorative design and protection against destruction of the corners formed by the wall and slopes of the entrance door. The corner was chosen with a width of 10 mm white, since the slopes were painted white water-based paint, and the walls were the color of coffee with milk. What came out of this can be seen in the photograph.

Since the angle formed by the door slope and the wall was not straight, use a ruler to PVC markings corner was difficult. Therefore, the marking was done by applying a corner to the future installation site and marking the cutting points with a marker.

The thickness of the plastic corner is only 1 mm, therefore, pressing it to the corner of the repair table, the corner can be easily cut with a jigsaw. A hacksaw for metal will also work. In order for the end to be smooth, after sawing it, you need to walk over it with fine-grained sandpaper attached to wooden block.

It is best to use liquid nails to secure the corner. When purchasing liquid nails, you need to make sure that they are intended, among other things, for gluing PVC materials. If the liquid nails are of high quality, then it is almost impossible to tear them off the corner after drying. I used liquid nails, the packaging of which you see in the photo.

For reliable fastening, it is enough to apply small portions of liquid nails at a distance of 15-20 cm along the entire length of the corner, as in the photo. Next, the corner is applied to the planned location, pressed and held for the time specified in the instructions for the specific brand of liquid nails. Typically, the tack time is a few minutes, and it will take a day to dry completely.

Next, a horizontal corner is marked, cut to size and applied for fitting. If there is a wedge-shaped gap between the corners, then using sandpaper, fixed on a wooden block, the end is trimmed to the required size. It is better to make the horizontal corner a millimeter longer than it turned out when trying on. In this case, if you made a mistake, there will be the possibility of adjustment.

It is easier to adjust the vertical corners of the door slopes, since their lower end is always covered with a floor plinth. Therefore, there is always the possibility of precise adjustment of the contacting ends of the corners.

If high strength is not required, then the outer corners of the walls can be protected using decorative MDF corners covered with decorative plastic film. Kitchen doors and facades are now made using similar material. The corners are easy to process and allow you to protect external corners from 90° to 180°. The range of MDF corners is presented in a large selection of colors and patterns, which allows you to match them to the color of the wallpaper or the color of the walls. External corners protected with such a corner have a beautiful appearance. You can attach them to the corners using any liquid nails. I used this type of corner to decoratively frame a large mirror mounted directly on the wall.

Rational organization of space implies thoughtful functionality and decor of corners in the apartment. But in any house there are not only internal and external corners that must be properly protected from mechanical stress and destruction. IN small apartment standard layout it is important to think about the arrangement of all corners so that everyone square meter was endowed with useful functionality.

Video: Decorating corners with flexible stone

In an apartment, protruding wall elements are the first to receive mechanical damage. They get scratches when exposed to various objects. To maintain an attractive appearance for a long time and protect arches, openings and other important areas walls from destruction, use plastic corners. They are available in a wide range of shades. You can choose bright ones decorative elements or give preference to transparent models.

How to protect corners

The profile allows you to hide any kind of defects. The walls acquire clear lines. Any kind of blow falls on these protective elements. Thereby, Decoration Materials walls retain their visual appeal longer. It is possible to avoid repairs, at least for the next few years.

According to the scope of application, plastic corners are usually divided into:

Corners can also protect wallpaper from peeling. It is possible to select corners according to their appearance, depending on the features of the interior. For example, if the walls are covered with clapboard or boards, you can install products with imitation of various types of wood on them. The end part of the material is protected from moisture and dust.

To make profiles for walls use:

  • polyvinyl chloride;
  • wood fiber material - MDF;
  • polyurethane;
  • aluminum in alloys and pure form.

When making plastic corners, special paint is also used. It ensures the brightness of the corner and protects them from fading in direct sunlight.

Finishing arched openings and corners

Plastic profiles used in finishing arched openings are characterized by flexibility and

Availability of a wide range of sizes. You can stick them on openings with smooth lines without making any cuts. There are colored decorative models. It is advisable to install models one tone darker than the paint on the wall or wallpaper. The arch line becomes clearer, thereby emphasizing the interior and its style.

If the floor in the room was laid wooden planks or laminate, decorative ones are suitable for it arched profiles with imitation wood. To protect corners, there are also laminated products on the market.

The width of colored plastic elements is selected in accordance with the following parameters:

  • arch width;
  • room dimensions;
  • the thickness of the wall on which there is an opening;
  • ceiling height.

The recommended corner width increases as the parameters increase. If there are large interior elements, a narrow decorative corner for the walls can simply get lost. A wide one will look unnatural if it is placed in a small hallway.

The length of the arched corners does not exceed 3 m. It is enough to take one ready-made strip to carry out the finishing. Over time, the joints will begin to protrude, so it is important to initially lay them symmetrically.

The upper arc must be glued, starting from the central part of the arch. After this, you need to carry it out in both directions. After this, it is important to dock on the sides. Then the ends must be cleaned and glued.

Colored corners for tiles are made of aluminum and its alloys. They arrange a coating on it and polish it until mirror shine. Varnish is applied on top or laminated. Thanks to this technology, the protrusions are reliable protection. Are improving decorative characteristics premises.

On one side of the profile there is a perforated strip equipped with slits. Lay on the surface of the wall or on steps. The opposite side is decorative. WITH opposite side it has a small internal protrusion. The side end of the tile is inserted here when the corners are laid. It is important that it fits tightly.

The tiled profile is not only intended for decorative purposes. It makes surfaces smooth during finishing works. Three-sided elements are provided for protruding corners. They allow you to close connections in three planes. They are placed at the junction of finishing profiles located at right angles.

These products have two sides. One of them is narrow. The structure fits tightly in those places where the frame meets the wall. If the corner is made of MDF, it is better to place it outside.

A good solution would be to use them for doors, windows, loggias and balconies. The strips are able to securely close polyurethane foam, protecting it from moisture and sun rays. Decorative qualities theirs are great. When facing slopes, they are not a mandatory component. You can use putty with further painting and sealant.

Bathroom corner

PVC corners intended for sealing joints in the bathroom are usually designed in white light. You can also use color options if the bathroom is decorated in modern design. The corner has the ability to protect walls from moisture. Also, its use serves as a good prevention of fungus. Plastic corners various shades used to protect both convex and concave corners of walls, washbasins, shower cabins and installations. There are special PVC borders for installation under tiles.

Profiles for external and internal corners

Perforated PVC profiles used to level corners when finishing with drywall or ordinary plaster. It is fixed directly to the solution, which is applied to the finishing sheets. It turns out that they take on the function of beacons. They also further strengthen the walls.

Best used for outdoor work hardware. Plastic corners can be used when it comes to faking oblique angles. They are able to bend and take the shape of the surface on which they are fixed.

For skirting boards and ceilings

Once the frame suspended ceiling covered with PVC film or plasterboard, it is necessary to carry out additional finishing of the protrusion. To make the skirting boards fit better to the surface, concave elements are used. They can be various colors and match the appearance of the cladding. Skirting boards are designed for maximum adherence to the wall. But sometimes it happens that wires or pipes for heated floors are located behind them. Therefore, it is necessary to leave a slight gap for the expansion of linoleum and laminate.

For this purpose, you can use a profile of the same shade as the baseboard. The corner must be secured to the opposite surface, allowing the material to move freely in case of deformation. For finishing corners when working with multi-level ceilings polyurethane profiles are used. They have sides 10 and 15 mm long. These products are flexible and easily follow the shape of the protrusion. In most cases, white models are in demand. The profile is not a mandatory element for attaching projections to the ceiling. It is used only when necessary.

Corners, regardless of the room where their capitals are, are internal and external. Internal corners are difficult to reach, but external corners are almost always open. For this reason, they suffer more often. They are scratched by pets. Often when moving furniture and household appliances through the doors scratches form on them.

The materials most often used for finishing corners are:

Plastic corners hold a confident lead because they:

  • presented in a wide range of shades;
  • Quite flexible and can adapt to any surface.

Installation of plastic corners is carried out only after all other finishing work has been completed. Fix them on the walls using mounting adhesive for plastic products. The length of the corners reaches 2.5 m. The width varies, so the profiles can be either narrow or wide.

To select the corner width correctly, you need to measure the curvature of the corner. If this indicator is large, it is better to take profiles of greater width. For beginners in the field of finishing work, we can recommend medium-width corners.

The algorithm for fixing a plastic corner on the wall surface is as follows:

  1. Angle deviations are measured using a building level.
  2. Mix the solution based on the dry putty mixture to the required consistency.
  3. Apply with a regular spatula ready mixture, leveled using a corner tool so that the corner takes on a rectangular shape.
  4. As soon as the corner is completely dry, apply a perforated PVC corner and cover it with a layer of finishing putty.
  5. After the material has completely dried, the surface is sanded using an abrasive mesh.

PVC corners are always installed on a previously prepared surface. If necessary, remove old wallpaper with a drywall knife and remove the paint layer.

Further algorithm of actions:

  1. Apply glue to the inner surface of the corner at a distance of 30 to 50 mm. This should be done as if drawing a dotted line.
  2. After some time, the glue acquires optimal viscosity. You can read about the desired consistency in this case in the instructions for the glue. These indicators are individual, depending on the manufacturer.
  3. Apply to the surface of the corner plastic profile and secure on top with masking tape.
  4. To fix the corners, you can use liquid nails or colorless silicone.

Corners made of polystyrene foam

Expanded polystyrene is non-flammable material. Corners made from it have the following advantages:

  • do not remove dirt;
  • do not absorb moisture.

These products can be used in rooms with different temperature conditions. Such profiles can be painted. They are created by pressing and are available in various forms.

The use of polystyrene foam corners in finishing can be considered justified if the apartment has low traffic levels among residents. Such decorative elements not only protect corners, but also do an excellent job aesthetic function. They are fixed like with special glue, as well as regular acrylic sealant.

Wooden models

Wood products also have a number of advantages:

  • decorative appearance;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • possibility of arranging threads.
  • do not use wooden corners in rooms with high humidity;
  • If there are regular temperature changes in the room, the use of wooden corners is not recommended.

Stone for decoration

Recently, stone has increasingly begun to be used in interior decoration premises. This material looks best when arranging external corners. If they have significant deviations from geometric shape, then the stone will look especially appropriate. Because thanks to this, you won’t have to worry about leveling corners and walls.

Before installation decorative stone you need to prepare the surface. It should be cleaned of dust, dirt, old finishing coating and primed. If the surface is too dry, be sure to moisten it. This ensures better absorption of the adhesive into the structure of the working wall.

First, the glue is diluted according to the instructions. It retains its properties for 2 hours. It is better to cook it in a plastic container using a drill mixer with attachments.

After mixing, leave the glue for a few minutes. Mix the mixture thoroughly. A minimum of 6 kg of solution is usually required per square meter of area.

The stone is pressed against the surface with force. After this, the construction level is used to check the correctness of its installation. Lay the stone in three rows and leave for a while. The glue dries after 2 hours. If you do not maintain this period, the laying of subsequent rows will turn out to be fragile, and the structure will collapse under its own weight.

When you do repairs yourself, if you are not a professional in this matter, many questions arise that require immediate and the right decision. This also applies to finishing corners in the apartment. Corners can be external and internal, rectangular and not very rectangular. And then the problem arose, how to put them in order, that is, straighten and decorate them as much as possible. Internal corners are often not very noticeable due to their curvature, because they are hidden under wallpaper or decorative plaster and filled with furniture. Another thing is external corners. They are usually always in sight. But let’s try to figure it out and find ways to solve this problem: during repairs, correct the curvature of the corners made during construction and somehow transform the corners.

So, internal corners walls can be leveled in several ways and here are the two most common:

  • by plastering the corner and adjacent wall
  • angle correction using drywall

Plaster Any surfaces, as you know, the process is quite labor-intensive, dirty and time-consuming. If you decide to go this route, calculate all the pros and cons in advance. We need to see if the angle is much far from perfect (90 degrees). If the error is too large, then big job, because along with the corner you will have to plaster most of the wall. You cannot apply more than 2 cm of plaster, otherwise the thick layer will crack. And you will have to do this work several times, layer by layer. You need to figure out if you really need this ideal angle, or maybe you can leave everything as it is, limiting yourself to it decorative finishing. If you still decide to plaster, use a metal corner called a counter-shultz. The corner is pre-primed and the counter-shultz is glued onto the putty, lightly pressing it into the still soft putty mixture. This corner will provide the desired right angle. The counter-shultz is equipped with a reinforced mesh on both sides at the edges, which will go under the plaster and thereby make the corner strong and even.

With help drywall You can level out a variety of uneven surfaces on any surface. If the curvature of the angle is small (up to 2 centimeters), then use frameless method installation of plasterboard sheets. If it is more than 2 cm, then a frame is constructed from wooden blocks or metal profiles and drywall is attached to them. The advantage of this method of leveling corners and walls is that with the help of drywall sheets you can achieve almost perfect smooth walls and right angles in the room.

But there is also a big minus - the room becomes smaller.

Which method to choose, decide for yourself. Whether or not to align corners and walls is a question that everyone decides for themselves. And if you think that decoration uneven corners it will be enough, read the article further.

If there are children or pets in the house, then the outer corners are especially vulnerable. The wallpaper will peel off decorative plaster It will fall off at the corners. Unpleasant picture. But is it possible to somehow eliminate this process? Certainly! After all, a lot of decorative items are now on sale. building materials that allow this to be done.

I chose plastic corners to protect the outer corners in my hallway from damage. This is an outer corner covered with wallpaper. We recently renovated and the wallpaper is still fresh.

But if you look closely, the corner looks like this: an ugly joint between different wallpapers.

I measured the height of the corner from floor to ceiling and bought a plastic corner from a hardware store. Cut with regular scissors right size and smeared it inside with liquid nails.

And finally, I glued it to the corner. Agree, this is much better. Of course, it was possible to choose a corner of a different color, but I wanted contrast.

This is what it looks like up close. The corner in our corridor began to look neater and minor irregularities were hidden.

As you already understood, the outer corner can be leveled and protected from damage using plastic corners. Now we are talking about those corners that are glued directly on top of the wallpaper. In construction stores they are available in different colors. The length of the corners is usually 3 meters, but the width varies: from the narrowest to the widest. You need to choose the width depending on how strongly the corner is curved.

The larger the flaw, the wider the corner will be needed. Look at the photo below; in stores you can find rectangular and even semicircular corners. Before buying, think about which corner is best suited in your case.

But there are also corners that are glued to the outer or inner corners even before the wallpaper is glued to the walls. These corners are glued to the inner or outer corner, puttied and thanks to this the corner becomes much smoother. Wallpaper is pasted on top, decorative plaster or other finishing is applied.

As mentioned earlier, with a plastic corner you can close both the outer and internal corner and even the joint between the wallpaper. But then it will not be a corner, but a plastic strip. Some decorative plastic corners are equipped with adhesive tape; after removing the protective layer, you can stick the plastic on the wall without using glue.

Plastic corners look good on walls with wallpaper. But with tiles The plastic doesn't fit very well. But if you don't mind the combination of plastic and tile, you can use them together.

There are plastic corners that are designed to look like metal; these corners can match almost any tile.

For finishing external and internal corners of walls with ceramic tiles You can also use ceramic corners.

If the outer (or inner) corner is far from perfect, you can hide its flaws under a decorative stone.

In construction stores you will find the shade and shape of artificial stone that you like.
